Yes, dealing drugs is wrong. The question is:

SHOULD NON-VIOLENT OFFENDERS BE PUT IN THE SAME PRISONS AS MURDERERS?

ISN'T 15 YEARS TOO LONG?

IF SOMEONE CAUGHT WITH POWDER COCAINE GOES TO JAIL FOR A FRACTION OF THE TIME (THE WHITE PERSON'S DRUG), DON'T YOU SEE A PROBLEM? ISN'T IT THE SAME DRUG BUT DIFFERENT FORMS AND DIFFERENT PUNISHMENTS BASED ON THE PEOPLE WHO USE OR DEAL IT?

"DO THE CRIME, DO THE TIME".....PEOPLE ARE SO SIMPLE. LOOK A FEW LAYERS UNDER.....AND THINK ABOUT THIS SHIT IF IT WERE SOMEONE IN YOUR FAMILY.

ALCOHOL IS LEGAL AND CAUSES JUST AS MUCH DISTRUCTION AND VIOLENCE AND DEATH AS CRACK....SHOULDN'T THE PEOPLE IN THE BARS AND LIQUOR STORES THAT SELL THIS GO TO JAIL TOO BY THIS LOGIC? THE TRICK IS, THEY'VE FOUND A WAY TO MAKE MAD MONEY OFF OF ALCOHOL AND KEEP IT "CONTROLLED" IN THEORY. THAT'S THE ONLY REASON WHY IT IS LEGAL.

If it were so simple you would think people wouldn't do it. Maybe there is more time because its alot more dangerous. It sure is hell of a lot more addictive than regular coke. Maybe that might be why. No it can't be that. It has to be because they are black. Point blank you fuck up, who gives a shit what color you are, you deserve to get fucked by the law. Especially if you selling highly addictive drugs.

That may be. But it's there rules and we have to play by them. Or they end up like your friend.

Some people are more prone to "following the rules" because they don't have to break them to survive. I understand people don't *have* to sell drugs and there are other ways to make money, but the reality is that ghettos are flooded with crack for a reason....to get people caught up.

If you are supporting your whole family off of a Burger King wage who has been living in projects for 3 generations (thus has never seen anyone get out) and you are offered a way out of poverty by way of "breaking the rules" would you do it?

If you came home every day and saw your little sister or daughter screaming for food on the floor while rats were crawling around just inches from her little feet how would you feel? You're getting paid 6 bucks an hour before taxes and you can't feed her, what do you do? You're already on government assistence, which gives you just enough to pay your rent....but you have to keep the lights on and the heat on, buy clothes, pay for transportation and feed 5 small children.

It is a cycle. A 15 year prison stint is not going to stop that cycle and money is made from locking people up that does not go to help the people who get caught in the trap to begin with.

I feel exactly the same way.

Another thing some of you people need to examine is why someone sells drugs. Is it not societies fault that it is so hard for some people to come up that they are forced to sell drugs?

And where did crack come from anyway? Where do most drugs come from?

Im sure its not coming from the inner city or the gettos.

and another question....should non-violent offenders be housed in the same prisons as murderers?

i don't think they should......selling drugs is a lot different than raping and/or murdering someone......

i know...i meant in america....people are always bitching about how slavery is over blah blah blah
i think comparing someone who INTENTIONALLY broke the law with innocent people who were robbed of all freedoms for generations is blasphemy. youre trivializing a whole races struggle by putting these two people in the same class.

drug laws are too severe i agree, and the prison system is hella fucked.

My boy went to jail 5 years ago on a crack case for dealing. They seized all his assets, sent him to the federal prison for 15 years and house him next to violent criminals like murderers, rapists, and pedofiles.
doesnt crack reselt in violent crimes by addicts??? so wouldnt that make the dealers responsible partially for the violense

He works 12 hours a day for one dollar a day making furniture that the prison (operated as a private corporation to *make* money....which has also been know to *shut off water* for days in a row to *save money* and in turn *create more revenue*) sells for hundreds of dollars per piece.
thats why its called prison, not a luxury hotel, plus add the cost of food and living conditions ( i heard it costs nearly $40,000 per year to house an inmate). and i would say they have it better off than most poor people who dont make $40,000 a year

And they say slavery *ended* how many years ago? Or did it really?

how can u say crack cocaine isnt a violence offense. dealers gotta carry guns to protect themselves from jackers and theives, users got to commit violent crimes to pay for their habits.

I disagree with putting non-violent offenders in with the hardcore criminals(murderers, rapists, child molesters etc)...because if anything, the non violent ones are most likely average people that just made a mistake...but when you put em in with all the hardcore criminals their gonna most likely turn into hardcore criminals because they gotta be as tough and violent as the worse ones in order to survive....so in other words the prison systems more or less start a cycle.
either that are they will be scared shitless and never commit a crime again

the majority of prisons in california are state prisons.....the only ones that are privatley owned are the federal prisons.....in state prisons you have a choice of going to class or getting a job....and in california state prisons they could never get away with shutting off the water or taking food from the inmates because they would file a grievance so fast the state would lose millions of dollars in lawsuits....and personally me as a taxpayer,i think between 30 cents and 1 dollar an hour is all they should get, because we pay the inmates salary and if they get paid more our taxes will go up......

the punishment for crack cocaine is 3 times that of powder and now my homie is sewed up for 15 instead of 5
15 years is kinda high. i would have just gave him 10 so he can get out in 7.

the funny thing is it seems kinda harsh. check this out my friend got busted for about 50 lbs of meth and he just got 17, probly out in 12-13.

now i know it's not "right", but 15 years

have u even loook into the way prisoners get treated?
not only by guards, but by other prisoners.

they should be "rehabilitated" , prisons don't do that.

my uncle who used to be a high school teacher is now a prison guard in salinas state prison. and from what he tells me the prisoners have more rights than the guards. so go figure.
