Cotto - 5 ' 7 67" reach
Pacquiao - 5 ' 6 1/2 67" reach

I don't think there is as big of a size difference as people think...maybe on fight night weights, but I don't think its that huge of an advantage against Manny simply being heavier than he is.

This is gonna be a war.
Height & reach are about even, but the body frames are much different. Cotto struggled badly to make a 140 pounds which is whey he had to move up to 147. Pacquiao had to eat two meals just to weigh in at 138 pounds against Hatton. Cotto comes in over 160 pounds on fight night whereas Pacquiao weighs in around 142-145.

Looks like this fight will be at 145 pounds, which is an advantage to cotto of course. Little history, 140 pounder Julio Cesar Chavez fought 147 pounder Pernell Whitaker at a catchweight of 145 pounds. Whitaker obviously schooled the shit out of Chavez but was robbed in one of the worst decisions ever.

Roach Budges, Says "145" is Good For Pacquiao

By Mark Vester

Freddie Roach, trainer of Manny Pacquiao, has budged on his demand of making Miguel Cotto drop down to 143-pounds for a fight with Manny Pacquiao on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Several days ago, Roach told media members that 143 was the weight he wanted the fight to take place. Cotto's nutritionist told Top Rank's Bob Arum that Miguel could only get down, in safe fashion, to a weight of 144-145 at most.

Arum recently called Roach, the two spoke about the fight and 145 appears to be the target weight for the bout.

"Arum called me and I told him that I don't have any problems with the fight being at 145 pounds. In fact I don't care if Cotto wants to weigh 200 pounds," Roach told Primera Hora . "I trust my fighter, so I care very little about the weight issues. I have not talked to Manny, who will make the final decision. He is a big man who makes his own decisions. All I can do is give it my recommendation."

One recommendation is for Pacquiao to make more money than in his previous fight with Ricky Hatton in May. Pacquiao is said to have made around $12 million for that bout.

"Obviously we want to see Manny get paid higher than in the previous fight. There is no reason to step back in terms of money, so those details will be discussed," said Roach.

Gabriel Peñagarícano, the legal adviser to Cotto, told the paper that a lot of things need to be agreed upon before the deal is closed.

"I'm not surprised that [Roach] has accepted the weight of 145 pounds, but that is only one of several items that will be discussed and it's taken at least two weeks to complete. There are a list of issues are being discussed."

Cotto: Pacquiao does not impress me

Caguas .- The Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, Welter Champion of the World Boxing Council (OMB), said today that it is indifferent whether to fight at 145 pounds against Filipino Manny Pacquiao the next November 14.

Cotto with a mark of 34-1, has fought at 147 pounds since he won the Puerto Rican Carlos Quintana in December 2006 for the vacant title Welter of the World Boxing Association.

Previously it had in the Light Welter division, where he defended the crown five times the OMB.

Pacquiao, with a 49-3-2 record, has never done a contest in 147 pounds, though in his fight against Mexican-American Oscar De La Hoya on December 6, 2008, did so in the 145 lbs.

"No matter whether it is 145 pounds. That was the weight we said from the beginning and in the ring, climbing eight to ten pounds," Cotto said after completing a press conference for the presentation of a poster on Friday his company will Promotions Miguel Cotto in Caguas, a town near San Juan.

The Puerto Rican boxer said "we are awaiting confirmation of the fight", which said that "we very seriously and commitment."

It did not impress him "nothing" for the work he has done Pacquiao in his last fights, where he achieved victories over David Diaz, De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton in three different divisions.

"I'm not impressed at all. He has two arms, and me too. The things in life arrive when they arrive," he said.

He said that back in the gym three weeks after a wound on his left eyebrow, which cost him 21 stitches, was completely healed after a header that was his last triumph in the June 13 before the Ghanaian Joshua Clottey.

"We wound healed and we are resting. Virtually scar. We will work for a good fight. People know how it works Miguel Cotto," said the boxer, who will return to Tampa (Florida, USA) to join their training, as it did against Clottey.

He stated that his working group, led by coach Joe Santiago, will remain intact even though they admitted that there were some errors in his fight against Clottey.

Lookin like Cotto's belt will be on the line after all.

For the record, 147 pounds is the welter weight maximum, anything between 141-147 is considered welterweight, that's why the belts can be on the line even though it's at a catchweight of 145 (just like JCC vs Pernell Whitaker, or Oscar de la hoya vs Bernard hopkins at a catchweight of 158, etc.).

Nice. But have they signed off on the fight already ?

Wow, Manny would be looking at his 7th division title then, if I'm not mistaken. I know Oscar also has 6...would this be the most ever ?

Pacquiao, Cotto to fight at 145 lbs

By NICK GIONGCO
July 20, 2009

After having a private conversation via long distance call with Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum over the weekend, Manny Pacquiao finally agreed to face Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico at a catch weight of 145 lbs.

Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz said “adjustments were made” in the other provisions in the contract and the fight is green and go for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 14.

Pacquiao had initially wanted to bring Cotto down to 143 lbs, citing Cotto is a natural welterweight (147-pounder) while he hasn’t really fought at that level even though he beat up Oscar De La Hoya last year.

Against the Golden Boy, Pacquiao only weighed 142 lbs and against Ricky Hatton last May, the 30-year-old pound-for-pound king tipped the scales at 138.

Pacquiao, Koncz and lawyer Franklin Gacal had originally planned to fly to the US to meet up with Arum to settle the issue but Koncz said that wouldn’t be necessary since Pacquiao has agreed to the terms.

“Bob is expected to make an announcement (about the Pacquiao-Cotto fight) within the week,” said Koncz.

Arum is coming off a three-week vacation in Europe.

Pacquiao’s itinerary in the coming days and weeks remains tight owing to his showbiz commitments.

145 definitely is an advantage for Cotto, but as we've seen in the past, simply being the heavier opponent does not necessarily mean the fight is an automatic.

that's what I voted for but in all honesty it would have to be a stoppage, I doubt pacman would actually knock him out, maybe due to punishment or cuts.

I just don't see how cotto would KO pac. I mean, sure yeah cotto will be bigger, probably 10 pounds heavier at least. But Cotto needs his opponent sitting in front of him to knock them out. Cotto doesn't have one punch KO power, he does it by slowly chopping them down. Pacquiao is too quick on his feet to just stay in front, he will dart in and out and stay on the outside, move around and quickly come in and land a fury of shots then bounce out again. Cotto's going to have a hard time landing on pac methinks.

Top Rank Confirms: Pacquiao vs. Cotto a Done Deal!
LAS VEGAS, NEV. – BOB ARUM, CEO of Top Rank, announced today that the mega-fight between boxing’s No. 1 pound-for-pound king and the reigning Boxing Writers Association of America’s (BWAA) Fighter of the Year, MANNY “PacMan” PACQUIAO, and the pride of Puerto Rico and three-time world champion MIGUEL COTTO is official.

“Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto have reached an agreement to fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 14,” said Arum. The fight will be seen live on HBO Pay-Per-View. Top Rank is working on a major media tour to start right after Labor Day. Further details will be announced as we get closer to kicking off the tour.”

Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs), of General Santos City, Philippines, has won six world titles in as many different weight divisions ranging from 112 to 140 pounds. His performance in 2008 was described as “Henry Armstrongesque,” winning world titles at 130 and 135 pounds with victories over Juan Manuel Marquez and David Diaz, respectively, and knocking out and retiring Oscar De La Hoya at 147 pounds to finish the trifecta. This year, he picked up where he left off last year – winning another world title in a new weight division -- dealing defending junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton a one-punch second-round knockout on May 2.

Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs), from Caguas, Puerto Rico, has sold more tickets at Madison Square Garden in this millennium than any other fighter. He has held a world title every year since 2004. Puerto Rico’s most exciting fighter, Cotto held the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight crown from 2004-2006, successfully defending it six times before vacating it to capture the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title at the end of 2006, a title he held for nearly as long. He won his second welterweight title in February this year, knocking out Michael Jennings in the fifth round at Madison Square Garden to become the WBO welterweight champion. Notable scalps on Cotto’s belt include Sugar Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Joshua Clottey, Pauli Malinaggi, and Demarcus Corley.

naner, CALICOE509, gabe559, M.o.B....you guys really think cotto will KO pacquiao? That's a bold statement!
I'm a bold individual 2-0. It's hard to say how this fight plays. Cotto's not gonna rush in silly like Hatton and if he does manage to trap him he might be able to bully him around. Cotto also has a very underrated jab and if he sticks to it he can definitely disrupt Pac's speed.
