There's some fire gone from Mayweather's eyes. I have no doubt that come fight time he will be the force that he is. But If I were making a documentary about Mayweather, I would highlight the fact that within the last year, there has been some personal trauma, and it's represented in the face off.

I think that Mayweather got sick of all the fans talking about him being scared of Manny, so he got his love for boxing back. I think he's coming back to boxing to prove some people wrong and to shut some people up. For some reason I think you're going to see a mean Floyd looking for the KO in the ring with Ortiz.

Floyd could use a nice KO to get on that "greatest out" status that manny's kinda butted in on in the last 2 years

yeah I think that if he completely rocked Ortiz he'd gain a lot of respect that he previously had (pre-vacation)

As good as Floyd is, I can't see him KO'ing Ortiz. After seeing that punch that Ortiz got up from, from Berto, there's no way Floyd is going to KO Ortiz. Maybe TKO but not KO.

If Ortiz keeps lunging in like he did against Berto he'll get Ricky Hatton'd.
That's his style and will be his downfall. They should be trying to exploit the fact that Floyds defensive style and stance is weak against a southpaw fighter. However, Floyd has shown that when fighting those fighters he is able to adapt but it does take him time to do so (Judah and Corely.)

If both these guys win their fights and Manny takes the test we'll see the fight.

This was my breakdown of why Ortiz can't beat Floyd let me know what you think:

I don't think he has the right tools. He doesn't have a good jab, which I think would help him get close and inside against Floyd and he doesn't have any head movement.

Going back to who was the most successful at getting on the inside on Floyd, it was Castillo. If you re-watch the first fight he used A LOT of head movement when he would work his way inside (dipped his head down low and bobbed side to side), something ortiz doesn't do. In addition he worked the body very well and he had a fantastic chin at that time. Ortiz doesn't really have any those things.

In the Berto fight, Ortiz lunges in with shots from the outside, that's basically how he gets his shots off and to get inside. that, IMO, spells absolute disaster against a technician like floyd. You can't lunge in against Floyd or you'll get Ricky Hatton'd. You need to either work your way in with a STRONG jab (not a lazy, half-assed jab like mosley used) or do what castillo did and bob and weave that head around unpredictably. Ortiz does neither.

One point against Floyd, which could be a major one, is by the time of the fight he will have not fought in 16 months. That's a long layoff. Floyd is also 34 years old now he's not a young guy anymore. So if he comes in rusty at all, he may have a few shaky moments early (kinda like round 2 against Mosley) and you just never know with a guy like Ortiz who has power in both hands that could be disastrous. But Floyd is a pro and I expect any ring rust to be gone after the first couple rounds.
