^^floyd himself said he wasn't doing a 50/50.

and I don't know where you get the "$40 million is 5 times more money" than pac has ever earned, that's BS. I guess Manny hasn't been on the Forbes list of highest paid athletes the past several years in a row.

You're probably going by one of those live gate purses that doesn't include PPV revenue etc. that floyd posted on twitter (why would he post that unless he's trying to justify his case for taking so much more money, right?).

Anyways, I don't know how anyone can try to justify this. It's not just the PPV it's the live gate which the all time record is $19 million, obviously this would shatter that as well, then there is closed circuit and anything else. So taking a flat fee of $40 mil in the richest fight in history is ludicrous.

I think Oscar made the mistake of doing something similar when he fought Trinidad and of course that fight went on to break the PPV record (at that time) and oscar got paid way less than he would have if he had a percentage. This would obviously dwarf that in comparison.

sad manny sells more ppv than mayweather and still only gets a fraction of what floyd makes when he fights lol
what is a fraction though? I mean check the forbes list the last several years and manny is one of the top paid athletes every year. I think people are retarded to think he's only making $6 million a fight, which is what LV lists as the purse split and that's what people are going crazy over. If he's guaranteed $20 million a fight in his contract that's how much he must make at minimum, legally. The las vegas pay sheets aren't going to show PPV revenue and anything else other than the live gate.

Floyd is smarter though because he's a free agent and doesn't have to pay Golden Boy as much as Pacquiao has to pay Top Rank so floyd takes home a higher percentage than Pac but that shouldn't effect negotiations on a 50/50 split or 55/45 or whatever it should be, it shoudln't matter where pac's money goes to whether its top rank, freddie roach or whomever that's pac's money and he's entitled to pay whoever he wants however much he wants.

i know forbes lists everything they earn but the last several years they listed no endorsements for pacquiao because he didn't have any. Maybe 2011 was a big endorsement year for him and so will 2012, but we don't know how much he's made. That article just says he's potentially worth $50 million in endorsements not that he's earned any of that. Now he signed that Nike deal in march or april of 2011 so I know he made good money from that but I have no clue what it was. I read "multi million dollar deal" so who knows.

When looking at the big picture: First the drug testing issue, now the money split.

Questioning whether or not Floyd really wants this fight.

He obviously wants his fans to think so, but reading in between the lines...he's doing everything possible to ensure the fight doesn't happen.

I'm beginning to think that too.

Floyd picked the date, venue, and got Pacquiao to agree to the drug testing.

All Pacquiao wants is a 50/50 split and the fight is on and Floyd says no?

They're both cool with not fighting each other.

don't you think pac would go crazy if he only got paid $6 million for the marquez fight which did 1.4 million PPV buys? Don't be that naive (whoever actually believes that's all he made). Here is an explination of how it worked:

Arum also clarified the situation with regard to Pacquiao’s purse in several of his Las Vegas fights, which were published by John Chavez on the internet site boxingtruth.com and picked up by other writers. He said that under the rules of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the fighters need to be paid on the night of a fight.

To meet this requirement, Arum paid the NSAC $6 million for Pacquiao in his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, which the commission paid to the Filipino after the fight and which could be cashed the next day.

Arum indicated this was in order to comply with the requirements, even as he pointed out that “in the long form contract,” a copy of which is given the Internal Revenue Service, Pacquiao’s guarantee for the Marquez fight was $22 million, which was paid in full within 10 days, even though the contract stipulated it could be paid within two months.

The Top Rank promoter said that with the pay-per-view income, which up to now hasn’t all come in, Pacquiao will earn an additional $5 million, above his guaranteed purse for a total income of $30 million.

“We give the IRS tax people a copy of the real contract and we don’t avoid paying the proper taxes,” said Arum.

and to make things more comical in this never ending saga:

Arum offers Floyd $45m

by Ronnie Nathanielsz

TOP Rank promoter Bob Arum has upped the ante, following Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s offer to pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao of a guaranteed $40-million purse, with the American boxer retaining all the pay-per-view income.

Should a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight eventually happen, it is expected to bring in an additional revenue of around $150 million.

Mayweather made the counter-offer after Pacquiao told him during a telephone conversation when the American boxer called the Filipino’s adviser Michael Koncz, that a 50-50 split was fair and reasonable.

“I am offering Mayweather $45 million under the same terms he offered Pacquiao,” Arum told Manila Standard, in reaction to the Mayweather offer.

This is obviously not a real negotiation but it just goes to show how fast floyd will turn down this offer, just like pac turned down floyd's. no one in their right mind will do a flat fee for the richest fight in history. It has to be a 50/50 or at worst 55/45.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather is the fight every boxing fan has wanted to see for some time, and with Pacquiao facing financial problems, he may need a bout with Mayweather, even more.

According to TMZ, Pacquiao was having trouble paying his taxes and got some accountants to help him, who even let the boxer borrow money. Pacquiao never paid them back, and now they are suing him.

The amount Pacquiao is being sued for is reportedly $649,016.95.

The boxing community has long labelled Pacquiao as a good guy and someone who does things the right way, but it seems he hasn't been staying out of trouble as far as his financial situation is concerned.

With Pacquiao having money issues, a fight with Floyd Mayweather should be the boxer's first priority. Not only would the fight help Pacquiao cement his place among the elite boxers in the history of the sport, it would help him prove he's a better fighter than Mayweather.

The sport of boxing needs a Pacquiao-Mayweather for a number of reasons.

For one, it would give the sport a major bout between two fighters that people who don't even follow the sport closely, still know.

Second, the legacies of both fighters would be firmly shaped in this fight. Whomever the winner is—especially if it was by a unanimous decision—would see their boxing reputation skyrocket.

Manny Pacquiao seems to be in some financial trouble, and one great way to fix it would be to fight Floyd Mayweather in a fight for the ages.

Manny hasn't been willing to fight Mayweather for years, but now he is out of excuses.

According to this pac-man has never made over 10 mill in one fight. I don't know if this was posted are not. 40 million sounds like a good pay out for a fighter that has never got 10 million for a fight. It's not like he gets money on the back end anyways with Arum involved. http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content11628.html?PHPSESSID=088f8dcb594e78feed1acea8a93cb86e

I wouldn't do a 50/50 split with a fighter thats never made 10 million off a fight. 40 million sounds like a great come up

pac made $27-$30 million against marquez just because the purse pay on the day of the fight is $6 million or whatever doesn't mean top rank isn't paying him $22 million separately. there are guys on those same pay sheets that are listed at $1,000 u think that's all they get or their promoter pays them after? it's silly to think that's all they're getting.

you guys dont' think for a PPV that did 1.4 million buys, and a massive live gate of $12 million, if pac only got paid $6 million total he wouldn't be like, yo what's going on here? lol what's listed on those sheets isn't ppv share and his guarantee.

Forbes 2009:
The highest-ranking of the four newcomers to the list is boxer Manny Pacquiao who earned $40 million over the last year, tied for the sixth most. Pacquiao cemented his claim as the world's best pound-for-pound fighter with convincing knockouts of Oscar De La Hoya in December and Ricky Hatton in May. The two blockbuster fights garnered more than 2 million pay-per-view buys in the U.S. and earned Pac-Man $30 million combined.

Forbes june 2010:
Manny Pacquiao was ranked eighth with with a total revenue of $42 million among 18 athletes who made it in the list.

Forbes june 2011 (before marquez fight):
The Filipino boxing icon was tied rank at 24th among the world’s 50 highest-paid athletes, earning $25 million, with Real Madrid soccer star Kaka, 29, a Brazilian soccer midfielder, who sold 100 million units of the popular soccer game for Electronic Arts.

And even still, Pacquiao's financials are none of Mayweather's concern. His concern is for his own, and a 50/50 split is really the only thing that's reasonable. Whether Arum take 87% of Pacquiao's purse is none of anyone's business but Arum & Pacquiao, whether Pacquiao's only made $3.29 is none of anyone's business but Pacquiao's. This is a big money fight with 2 guys on equal footing and the negotiations should be treated as such. To say stupid shit like "oh this guys broke" "oh this guys never made that kind of money in his life" is fucking stupid.

I don't really care about any of these so called negotiations. I'll watch the fight if it happens but I'm not a big fan of soap operas so I'll pass on trying to keep up with stories.
