Exacty. Berto got $1 million to fight a completely unknown in Hernandez on an UNDERCARD fight. He got big paydays fighting 140 pound guys who weren't even ranked at 147 against Urango & Stevie Forbes. Stuff like that should never happen.
HBO has recently been doing a better job forcing good fights, like forcing Paul Williams (al haymon's fighter) to rematch sergio martinez etc., so hopefully that trend continues.
And I don't mind guys fighting lesser opponents if that's what they want to do for whatever reason, I'm just against HBO wasting money & a good time slot for that kind of stuff. You want to fight a lesser opponent? Ok, fight on an undercard or Friday Night fights, not the main event with a $1 million dollar payday.
HBO didn't force Paul Williams to fight Martinez. Paul asked for the fight, and after the knock out Paul is asking for a 3rd fight too. Berto deserve all the money he makes. I think his fight with Ortiz more then made up for the easy paydays. So no one has a problem with Canelo fighting Kermet for big pay, or Donire fighting a bum 20 pounds less then him for a big payday. But it's Al Haymon fault that HBO blow all of it's money, but yet Top Rank and Golden Boy gets a pass for doing the samething.
Double standards at it's finest.
I don't remember HBO or Showtime stepping up to plate to bury any of the boxing legends that dead. Or helping out any of the old fighters with medical bills. It has been a Al Haymon fighter Mayweather doing all the giving.
My point is Al Haymon is getting money for the fighters and that's great for boxing. Once you can't fight anymore HBO and the boxing fans don't give a shit about you. Just look at the lives of Joe Lewis, Smoking Joe, and the list goes on and on all dead broke and no network or fan gave them shit.
