Yeah, I feel like Vegas is the fight capital of the world, but for a fight of this magnitude, they'd be stupid not to at least explore other options.
When big fights are held at the MGM, the capacity is so small that you hardly get any real boxing fans in there...mostly just stars and stargazers. I think Dallas is a shithole of a city, but Cowboys Stadium would be crazy. 100,00+ fans, and they wouldn't have to charge an arm & a leg to get a ticket.
So now the excuse is the location of the fight? Manny's fighting in the MGM Saturday, so what's wrong with the location? Whenever Bob Arum can promote the top 1-3 most money making non-heavyweight in boxing history, then old Bob can add his bs excuse making 2 cents. Golden Boy and Mayweather are doing a better job then Top Rank. May 5th 2012 at the MGM Manny bring your ass.
it's not an excuse bigface it's pointing out the obvious - why not have a bidding war for the fight? Do you realize the type of money places will put up just for it to be there? Just sayin', no one knows if MGM would win that war. There are other places.
Shit, if floyd would fight outside of vegas they could fight in the middle east, Indonesia, south africa, fuck, there is SOOOOOO much money out there for this fight it boggles the mind.
I mean, it's cool and all if floyd wants his home turf advantage or whatever, but if I were him I'd at least want to hear some offers. There are quite a number of rich people/groups that have already expressed big interests and big money for this fight.

IMHO, Arum doesn't want the fight because it will be hard to conceal the financial rape Manny will suffer at the hands of him and his company. I don't think this has anything to do with Manny personally being scared. Why would he be? It's not like he is undeafeated or has anything to lose as the people will still love him.

Who started leaking all the info about the fight to the media = Arum. Mayweaher is just calling dudes bluff now. Golden Boy and Mayweather has been making all the money and breaking records not Top Rank, so please tell me why do we care about Arum bullshit plan. Besides, I'm not sure why you can't understand the fact that fights aren't negotiated with one side choosing the date/venue...and THEN coming to the bargaining table.
Bob Arum, Floyd Mayweather/Al Haymon need to put their egos aside for this one...it would be a damn shame if they figured out yet another way to make this fight go to shit.
When Bob Arum can say that he promoted the top 3 biggest money making non-heavyweight fights then we will listen to his plans. GoldenBoy and Team Mayweather seem to know how to make the most money in boxing, so why do we care about Bob excuses?? Bob Arum did the same thing by putting the Cowboy staduim on hold for the March 2010 fight, but I didn't hear any of the Manny fans whinning then. No all I heard was Mayweather is a coward he's ducking Manny. Or the two week deadline on the Top Rank website, no one said anything about that other then you guessed it Mayweather is scared and ducking. But now Mayweather is calling Top Rank on there bluff and all I hear is excuses.

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - According to trainer Freddie Roach, there are no other challenges on the horizon for Manny Pacquiao - except Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs). This Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38KOs) will defend his WBO welterweight title against Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39KOs) in a trilogy fight.
On Monday, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes the Filipino superstar, discussed a number of possible opponents for Pacquiao in the future - but Roach doesn't believe any of them will pose a challenge.
"I don't see anybody. There's nobody out there. I think that Mayweather fight has to happen. It needs to happen because it's the only challenge out there. I don't see any other challenges," Roach said.
Roach's temper was raised when the topic of Team Mayweather's recent announcement came up. The adviser for Mayweather, Leonard Ellerbe, recently disclosed that his boxer was going to return on May 5th, and the MGM Grand was placed on hold. While not revealing Pacquiao's name directly, Ellerbe hinted that Mayweather's main target was the "little fella.' Like Arum, Roach doesn't like idea of Mayweather already selecting a date and venue before the two sides get a chance to sit down and negotiate the actual terms.
"I'm kind of tired of Floyd. Just shut up and fight. We'll fight him any day of the week. Who the f**k is he to make the rules? If that fight doesn't happen, I'm not going to cry," Roach said.
Sounds to me like Roach is saying that we are not going to agree to random testing and he doesn't care if Manny fights Mayweather ever. Now the excuse is Mayweather doesn't make the rules, but Roach remember you guys already agreed to random drug testing a year ago and Mayweather went on vacation. LOL, more excuses to come after Saturday.
