he could have come a lil bit harder, but what really annnoys me is his music - these samples just dont fit the definition of a rap beat, and what is worse is that a lot of artists started copying them, just because people buy Kanye's West, people who otherwise have a really poor understanding of what rap music is all about, but form the majority of the audience buying records

THIS IS NOT RAP MUSIC
Okay...you might not be old enough to remember but the origin of Hip Hop beats was a DJ taking an old disco record and looping the break, or the most musical part of a record.

Kanye is doing nothing different...

Seems to me that YOU are the one w/ the poor understanding of HIP HOP...NOT RAP....

HIP HOP.

As far as it not sounding what today's hip hop sounds like...of course it doesn't...thats what makes Kanye's music unique...when most producers were composing beats as opposed to sampling...Kanye ( along w/ Just Blaze ) helped bring HIP HOP back to its roots...SAMPLING. They helped bring sampling back into mainstream HIP HOP and now look at the sampling craze going on w/ the sped up soul samples and people throwing drums over old 80's rock ballads.

Thing is that MUSIC as a whole is subjective...and everyone is entitled to their opinions...there are no absolutes. But hey...

but I prefer listening to Evil Pimp twisting about pornographic sex and violence over some evil beat or Criminal Manne spitting some balla-thug-big rimz shit over some DJ Squeeky production
To each his own...if listening to another MAN talking about pornographic sex and violence floats your boat...then by all means, DO YOU.

Sample whatever you want, given that you do quality music; not some watered down BS

Kanye is doing BS

I want all you to tell me WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN KANYE WEST'S MUSIC

That's what I don't get, how can people actually like his music when I can't stand it?

do u think what he speaks fits with the softest and weakest production and the most spoken-word like raps ever released???? Back in the dayz rappera were way more political than Kanye will ever get plu they got the beats and the rhymes

dude is wack in everything he does; except for the fact he says something controverial here and there; and even this seems more like a bsiness move for me

But you still didn't answer my question...

What do you mean by 'watered down'...

List some of the artists you like - Tha G -
South and Midwest:

The whole S.P.C
Tommy Wright III and all Street Smart Records artists
36
DJ Squeeky
DJ Zirk & 2 Thick
Gangsta Pat
of course Evil Pimp & The Krucifix Klan

Hellborn

undergorund N.O. rap like Pimp Dogg and UNLV

The Dayton Family
old MC Breed albums

and a lot more but I think U figured it out

West:

Brotha Lynch
X-Raided
old AWOL shit
old Get Low shit
RBL (and any rapper out of Hunters Point who released an album around '95 and who had TC production on it)

Twinz - one of my all time favourite albums
Foesum

and of course a lot more

hyphie music is good as long as they keep it hyphie; the problem is that most albums that come out of the Bay nowadays have 2 or 3 hyphie tracks and the rest is some slow bullshit; LA doesn't even have the hyphie tracks so what comes out of LA is 100% bullshit

=> I don't listen to westcoast rap that much anymore

East:

nothing released in the last 5 or 6 years was any good; it's all boring as fuck

I still have a lot of respect for all those classic eastcoast rappers that was big 10, 15, 20 years ago; no need to mention names, you all know them

of course this is not a complete list but I think it's enough

^ i agree, if you wanna know what i like bout kanyes shit, its just the vibe you know, like drive slow, that has a kinda remminisant vibe to it, and he talks bout the old days, which matchs the vibe, makes me think bout old times and shit, cool ass track, plus all the shit is pretty up beat, and has a kinda inspirational feel to it, if that makes any sense. i like it as a whole, its quality HIP HOP, dont compare it to rap
