Is chatting and texting an ex cheating?

Man long story short, my girl is pissed at me because she found out I was talking (emailing) an ex girlfriend. She emailed me first though... And I only sent like 3 text messages and they were all replies. These were just friendly chats and nothing else. All we did was just talk about problems we're having in our relationship and then just chatted about our kids and stuff. I think my ex wanted to hook up because she was telling me about all these problems she was having in her marriage, but I just encouraged her to work through them with her husband because she's married with kids. I was just giving her advice. My girl somehow finds out and blew a fuse, calling me a cheater. She feels I cheated because I didn't tell her. But I don't think I cheated because we were only chatting and I wasn't talking to her with the intent to hook up or anything. She talked to my ex and my ex starting making up lies about how we went out to lunch together and all kind of bs.

Do y'all think I cheated? Is my girl over reacting and blowing things out of proportion just because I didn't tell her?

You didn't cheat, but it's expected you'll be in the dog house. Any contact with someone you used to fuck is going to cause problems.

Id be willing to bet that its not about you emailing or texting your ex, I bet shes mad at the fact that you were talking about your relationship problems with her.. Id be light weight heated if my girl told her ex about our problems, but I wouldn't say she was cheating.. That IS blowing it a lil out of proportion.

How did she find out? Was she going through your email or phone? I would get pissed at my girlfriend if that was the case.
