for one, no more going through the motions of the punches to pull uppercuts & hooks, etc. in champion you'll simply flick the stick in a direction to unleash a punch. personally i enjoyed the way it was set up in round 4..
Check this out:

First and foremost, let's talk punching. I am a big fan of the Total Punch Control, and when I got to see how Brizzo and Mahar morphed the TPC to the new Full Spectrum Control, I think I peed a little in my test chair (don't tell EA). The only feasible argument for someone NOT wanting to use TPC in R4 is that the analog angles of some of the punches are evolutionarily impossible to pull off, thanks to our genetically inadequate gamer thumbs. With Full Spectrum Control, not only are all the punches just a "flick of the stick", there are MORE punches! Not just a jab, a hook and an uppercut but jabS, hookS, and uppercutS! The triggered animation depends on the way you flick the right analog. If you miss the jab a little, instead of a tight in and out jab, you might paw your opponent. Instead of the same old hook *yawn*, you'll now see different animations, depending on your analog input. Button users will still be able to punch but not with variation.

Another thing I read is that now you can paw with the jab if you want and there are variations of the jab from a paw to a lazy jab to a decent jab to a stiff jab to a strong jab.

check this out:

The Jab (or in the words of Trinidad after Winky Wright...YAB) CU felt like it was suppose to feel. Times it gave me that chance to: 1) gauge my distance 2) Stop my opponent dead in his tracks. (ie Cotto was using that new quick step in lunge to hook me and I caught him flush. I wonder if there will be guys who have a bazooka jab that can stun you...hmmm?!?). There were times when I used the modifier with my jab to make it more definitive on someone whoever wasn't really a stronger jabber...(there are degrees of jab effectiveness folks...arm yourselves.... ). I snapped Cottos neck like a Pez dispenser one time.

Other instances if you are on the receiving end....man, it is no fun. I fought Reignmaka with Winky and he was (name concealed until announced) and he was just sticking it out there in my face and coming up with combos. It was kist discouraging to be honest. A video game jab discouraged me? WTF!

I'm curious how the stamina is gonna play out. It pisses me off that there are no 1 punch body shot knockouts on round 4. IT makes it a head hunting exhibition unless the guy takes so many body punches in one round and never recovers their health. It didn't affect stamina as much as it should either.

I think we're in luck, check this out in regards to body punches (didn't really talk about stamina but I can only assume so based on this stuff):

I hit my opponent with a perfect shot, the guy looked like he went lifeless from the shot and crumpled to the floor in a manner I would expect him to fall. I hit someone with a well placed body shot and they reacted as such. Like he was about to throw up or like he how De La Hoya looked after that liver shot from Hopkins

Miguel Cotto tried to finish me with a body shot (vintage) and Pac was combo heavy.

Each punch AND location has a ratings. So you might have a power left hook to the head but a medium strength hook to the body. So you truly can game plan for what punch to watch from a opponent.

Q: Can you hurt other boxers with body punches just like you would with head punches?

Yes this happens and it is amazing to finally see. I also saw a 1 punch body knock down. Guy was full health and ate a well timing body blow that dropped him to one knee and ref came in with the count. Great addition.

I read that before actually ^^ and keep thinking about that. The computer has tried to finish me with body shots on round 4 before too but it's not the big 1 punch body shot that I feel like is lacking. You could be finished by jabs if your health is really low on round 4, that's not the issue but if it's like they say it will be going "lifeless" after a perfect body shot, that's important for a real sim.

Another question for the vets. Do you guys think this new direction will make the game more like a simulation, or do you think it will maintain a game/arcade game type feel?

I'm all for realistic looking games that play realistic (like this soccer game I saw at fry's tonight), but I don't want a sports game where I have to do so much micromanagement and meter watching that I simply can't enjoy it.

I think boxing is unique that in a real fight, you're not looking at how much time is left or how much stamina or health you have left. I think they're trying to bridge that gap and show signs that are more in line with how the fight is really going and not what the meter says, or have the meter and your fighter be aligned correctly with how the fight is going.

FNR3 was more of a arcade and 4 was more of a sim. Seems like they're trying to please both audiences with better and more realistic gameplay but also having the story mode. I like the ideas but I'm curious to see how it plays out. I'm excited about it but I think ultimately that this game will appeal more to people with an appreciation for the sport and not just someone who likes fighting games per se. I could be wrong tho

Producer Jazz Brousseau spent some time creating a few clips in the following video to illustrate some of the new Gameplay aspects you can expect to see in Fight Night Champion. Here he gives you the rundown of how his bout went down.

Producer Jazz Brousseau picks up the sticks as "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler, flips the difficulty to GOAT with Sim presentation settings and goes at it against Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns.

I like how single shots can be real effective now, if done at the right time.
