Fast-food workers strike nationwide in protest against wages

Actually, I am not...demanding as in running around, standing your shift and dealing with rude people at times(Fastfood deals with rude people as well, most likely worse), but the work is not hard as in difficult or requires anything type of knowledge or education that a 17 year old couldnt just be trained up real quick to do. How hard is that to understand? What is the hard part about it? bringing the food that's prepared by a cook on a plate or pouring the drinks? Or is it the dealing with the customers? Feel free to add more..I'll wait.

You act like the mf's are rolling around on skates and doing splits or something. What's next, the Hooters girls job is hardwork? That's a restaurant as well.

Step in their shoes and you'll know. Their job don't just consist of walking from point A to point B.

Once again, the reason a server makes more money then the McDonalds people your defending and the reason Applebees, Chilis, Olive Garden, TGI Fridays etc. workers aren't out on the streets crying right now. lol

Believe it for not their job actually takes skill and servers without the skill for the job wash out fast as fuck and end up working at McDonalds because they can't handle the work.

I say let them try and get more money. The worst that could happen is they get a NO and then they will either quit or go back to work. Also, why are some of you mad that these people are asking for a increase? Since when do we get mad at people for wanting a raise? Whether warranted or not. Athletes get millions and they still want raises. Let these people do what they feel they need to do.

If you're mad that a McD's employee might be making $15 an hour and that is more than your current job, then maybe you should find another job or go work at McD's... or maybe you're worried about your burger price going up? just saying..Dont give me that "oh its about the economy." I tell you this, it is NOT the people that work at McD's that are ruining the economy.

First of all, a "NO" is not the worst that could happen. That would be the optimal scenario. The worst would be these employees unionizing and ultimately bankrupting the company. If you've ever worked on the management side of a unionized company you know how it works. Unions demand more money for less work. Yes, they also advocate for safety and equality - causes usually already mandated by the state.

I don't know about others, but I'm upset by this because I hate ungratefulness, entitlement, and laziness. I also think it's a broad and growing problem that more and more Americans are developing these attributes. It's sickening to see adults so stupid and weak that they can't do better than this. Their solution to getting a raise is not to work for it, it's to gather in the street and shout about it. I say it's a broad problem because these are the same people that will vote for higher taxes, bigger government, and increased entitlements for themselves. Again taking from others to subsidize their laziness.

The Applebees, etc. employees understand that they have the potential to make more money by working at these places instead of fastfood, which is why they get so anal about tips. You know how many people quit the restaurants jobs you describe on a DAILY because they don't feel they are making enough? They recycle employee's just as much if not more than the fast food places. Its naive to think because they are not in the news that must mean everything is all good with their pay. Also, let's be honest, its more "respectable" to work at Olive Garden than McD's..

I am not defending McD's, its more so a general defense. I could really give a f--k about their employees pressuring their employer about wanting a raise. While you see it as selfish and "how dare they ask for more money. Just accept your pay laying down without even trying to get an increase." I feel they have every right to ask for a raise just like any other employee from any company. That is my stance. But I have given this topic way more attention than I intended..

I fully support this and I believe the national minimum wage should be no less than $17.50/hr. Australia does it, works for them.

These people aren't simply asking for a raise. Apparently they already asked for a raise and were told "no", hence the strike. Now they're acting like selfish entitled crybabies and rather than work hard to better their lives, they want a hand out and they want to screw over other employees who are fine with their wage they agreed upon by getting the business closed down.

Instead of standing around on the side walk with a sign maybe they should look in to going to school for a trade? Start looking for a job with a better wage? Take their strike and go picket at city hall and try to put effort into the raising of the nation minimum wage?

Defending these people isn't defending the little guy against the corporation, defending these people is defending the lazy entitlement of people who don't want to put in effort to better themselves.

I've never worked in fast food, so I can't speak on what they deserve to make. I will say this though... if minimum wage was raised to $17.50 or whatever someone said, it would have some pretty negative effects on the economy, mainly due to increased costs for small businesses

Just went to Wendy's to pick up some food and all I saw in there was a bunch of 17 year old kids and one woman that looked like she was in her mid 40's and looked like a former meth addict.

Don't think I could see the 17 year old girl with braces who took my order. The 17 year old boy who scooped up my fries out the bin and the 45 year old meth addict who handed me my bag making 40k a year with full benefits and a 401k lol

$15 should be minimum wage. One of the things MLK lead the March on Wahington for was an increase in the minimum wage, which, adjusted for inflation is just over $15. And its nice that you all have anecdotes about how everyone working at fast food is a kid or started at the counter and now owns a franchise, but if you actually look at the numbers, its mostly adults, most of whom have multiple jobs, and none of whom can live on $7 an hour.
