$15 should be minimum wage. One of the things MLK lead the March on Wahington for was an increase in the minimum wage, which, adjusted for inflation is just over $15. And its nice that you all have anecdotes about how everyone working at fast food is a kid or started at the counter and now owns a franchise, but if you actually look at the numbers, its mostly adults, most of whom have multiple jobs, and none of whom can live on $7 an hour.
It's very easy to say "should be" and easy to say "that's what MLK wanted back in the 60's", but is there any evidence currently that suggests our economy in it's current state could support $15 an hour minimum wage. Small business would be wiped off the map.

Just went to Wendy's to pick up some food and all I saw in there was a bunch of 17 year old kids and one woman that looked like she was in her mid 40's and looked like a former meth addict.

Don't think I could see the 17 year old girl with braces who took my order. The 17 year old boy who scooped up my fries out the bin and the 45 year old meth addict who handed me my bag making 40k a year with full benefits and a 401k lol
Lol

If a business cant afford to pay employees living wages, then it shouldnt hire them. I'm pretty sure Mcdonals can handle it.

So it's just chance that other people have better jobs? Not based on work ethic or skill?
I'm saying that skill and work ethic alone don't always get you there, and that there are circumstances beyond peoples control (the largest of which is what demographic they are born into) that can either provide or prohibit success.

Fools are really backing corporations in here fuck, amazing how entitlement creates hostility towards your fellow man, meanwhile businesses and corporations racking in record profits than in any other time in history, 10,12,15 dollar jobs mean your ballin on suckas??

You guys do know if minimum wage is raised we all win right? Jobs that require a degree will have to adjust accordingly. Small busineses wont crumble, most startups start with a good job and with.more money shit will balance itself out.

College tuitions are rising, price on gas is rising why cant we raise wages for everybody

Same reason 'they' don't just all win the lottery.
LOL question wasn't answered, vague "easy" answers not related to the question given. I asked for evidence to show if our CURRENT economy can handle paying EVERY SINGLE WORKER in the United States at least $15 an hour, not this make believe world where current business shouldn't exist if they can't pay $15 an hour.

Lets snap our fingers and join make believe land so every single American can have at least 30k a year (which is $15 an hour) and full benefits. Wonder why we haven't thought of that yet.

Yeah tell that to a small business owner. My dad owns a business with about 5 employees who all make 10 to $12 an hour, if he has to pay them all $15 year he's looking at (roughly) an extra $40k a year. He can't afford that shit. And $15 is minimum, a lot of employees will want more than that. Yeah McDonald's can handle it, but there's a lot of companies out there other than huge corporations, and minimum wage laws apply to them too

I'm a realist. I realize not everybody in our country of 313 million is going to be able to be middle class with a big house with the white picket fence and the fancy new car.

I realize if minimum wage got raised to $17.50 the following would occur:

Small business would die. Tell me what little locally owned deli, bar, clothing store etc. would be able to keep current work force while paying double?

Business that could afford to pay workers that would more than likely cut jobs leaving lesser amount of people to do more work.

Only billion dollar corporate business would be able to afford workers on a large scale.

Less jobs and even more people than there is now employed, competing for shit jobs at McDonalds.
That's quite the theory. I guess the small business i work for, who the lowest paid employee gets $25/hr, should be going under. Tell us moar

Not backing corporations in any way shape or form, I just realize living in the real world it's not economically possible for every last worker in the country to make at least $15 an hour.

I'm all for raising the minimum wage also, but this $15 an hour people are talking about would collapse our economy and more workers would be out of work than there are right now.

Uh, yeah the economy can easily tolerate raising the minimum wage. I think you are overestimating the amount of money that gets spent on low wage workers relative to the top few percent. What the economy can't tolerate, and the reason we are so fucked currently, is the deregulation that lets the corperations and banks run wild on everyone stealing all the cash out of the piggy bank. You want to fix the economy, tether the amount of money that the highest paid employee can get to the lowest paid employee, and reinstitute the banking regulations put in place in the 30s.

oh word, so the Mom & Pop coffee shop around the corner from my apartment (literally called Mom & Pops lol) owned by a couple in their 50's who only own that location wouldn't collapse having to pay their teenage employees $15 an hour instead of the current $8 an hour they make?

Teenagers would make less ($7.50, $8.50 etc). See Australia.

The demographic itself prohibits success? So it's the parents' fault then? And the employer's role is to subsidize the injustice of poor parenting and bad decisions?
