This is nothing new with Bethesda games. They constantly need to be patched. I would be lying if I said some of the glitches in this game didn't frustrate me along with glitches from previous Bethesda games. The PS3 lag was really annoying. But I still enjoy it. It lets my inner nerd out and I look past all the bad stuff because, in my opinion, the good stuff outweighs the bad.

This is nothing new with Bethesda games. They constantly need to be patched.
And thats the problem.

Even IGN agrees with me.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1214016p1.html

But FUCK IGN cause they didn't even review the game and yet they still gave it a score.

The following article sums it up. I just came across it a couple of minutes ago:

I made a delicious chocolate cake the other day. Except that it wasn't delicious at all in the end. You see it turned out that somewhere along the line I’d started mixing dog poo into it instead of chocolate, and I absolutely didn’t even notice that I had until a few hours later when people started eating it and being sick.

Sound implausible? That’s because it’s not true. I’m creating a clever (and marginally disgusting) allegory for Bethesda’s broken-as-all-hell PS3 version of Skyrim. It is you see, fundamentally messed up on a level that I view as patently unfit for release. And apparently Bethesda had no idea that the game it had spent years building and testing was so broken. I mean it can’t have known. Otherwise it’s quietly, knowingly released a busted product and cynically dicked over a large part of its fan-base. And the worst part? I saw this coming weeks ago. And it’s partly that very fan-base’s fault.

I knew this was going to happen. I bloody knew it. I was predicting exactly this occurrence around the office weeks before release. Why? Because I played Fallout 3. More specifically I reviewed all of its PS3 DLC. That was a week of black, endless night and seething, fevered Lovecraftian horror. Make no mistake, that [censored] was broken, and it was broken in exactly the same way that PS3 Skyrim is. Couple that previous experience with the fact that PS3 Skyrim code was conspicuously thin on the ground in the run up to the game’s release and you’ll understand why my stinker-sense was tingling.
I really didn’t want to be right. And when my PS3 playing friends and colleagues started ploughing happily through Skyrim for hours on end, I breathed a sigh of relief, satisfied that, this time at least, my cynicism had been over-sensitively placed.

And then yesterday the reports of disaster, disappointment and personal loss started to come through. One by one, all of my friends hit the 25 – 30 hour mark. One by one their games collapsed in on themselves. Frame rates fell apart. Key quest characters stopped interacting, or disappeared entirely. I have never seen so many people so quickly go from being so happy to so sad and broken.

The technical cause isn’t currently known for definite, but it’s suspected to be a memory management problem related to the size of save files, which seem to exponentially grow on the PS3 until everything falls apart. How did this happen? The options as I see it are two. Either Bethesda’s quality control on the PS3 version just was not up to standard and this vast and fundamental flaw slipped through the net (see my cake analogy), or else the failing was known and the game was slipped out in the hope that they could get a patch ready before anyone noticed. Both options are unforgivable, and certainly not actions to be expected or excused of a top-flight publisher of high-profile AAA games.

But the thing is, with Bethesda it is expected. They’ve been getting away with it for years, and that’s why as much as I’m loving Skyrim (on my 360), I can never truly support Beth as a company. Name one Bethesda-developed game in recent memory that has been released in an acceptable technical state. You can’t, because there aren’t any. Yes, I know that launch glitches are something we accept these days but Bethesda are a special case. Their bugs aren’t just graphical issues or matchmaking problems. They’re cases of products fundamentally not being fit for sale. Check out the bug list for Fallout 3. And the one for New Vegas. They're as hilarious as they are terrifying.

But Bethesda keep getting away with it because consumers keep letting them. “Bugs? Oh that’s just the way Bethesda games are” Well [censored] that. No-one else is so consistently shoddy. No-one else of their profile can be actively relied upon to put out a knackered product. I get that these games are big and complicated. I get that some bugs are funny and add character. But let’s get real here. That culture of acceptable shoddiness is what has lead us here. Let a company get away with less serious problems and they’ll (consciously or not) see that as a license to get away with bigger ones. And then we get situations like this. I’m sick of seeing fans blindly defend the company in comments sections and on forums, and then complain – again - when something like this inevitably happens. It’s your fault.

Yes, it might get patched. But consider this. Even if the cause of the problem gets cleaned up, it’s highly doubtful the devastated save files which have resulted will be repairable. Those 30 hour games are very probably gone. Far worse than that, a very large percentage of PS3 players do not have their consoles online-enabled. Those guys are screwed. Even if only a relatively small percentage of players are affected, with 7 million copies shipped that’s still a lot of people ripped off, by either incompetence or cynical deceit.

And this is the same problem we’ve seen in previous Bethesda games. And they got away with it then, so it’s happened again now. Think about that, people.

Bottom line is Bethesda games are fuckin huge. Bigger than any other games available. That's why they are so great, and thats also why there are so many bugs. It's a double edged sword. Ive had my share of fun wrecking glitches, but I would do it all again. When they work like they should, Elder scrolls and fallout are among the funnest games ever made imo

Battlefield 3 did it even worse. Dice was under such pressure from ea to release the game a week(s) before mw3 that they released a literally broken game. This shit has deep fuckin pockets. Who published skyrim? Was Bethesda rushed to release with the only other blockbusters of the retail season - which happen to be a whole other genre and demographic to maximize sales?

Of course dice had been up to their necks in releasing broken games since bfbc2. They were so rushed to pump out the ever so shitty medal of honor title that they neglected issues still occurring several months after bfbc2 released. Now ea and activision are going head to head which results in a compromised, unfinished product from dice.

Once again people, this isn't about "the game is so big so you can expect bugs" or "all games have bugs." This is about how Bethesda either knew in advance that this was going to happen and still released a shoddy product or how they didn't know and the game passed Q&A. All evidence points to them knowing in advance. This is a large game right? And people have been putting in hours of like 30-110 right? So you're all going to sit there and tell me no Bethesda q&a ran into the glitch?

I'm sure there were glitches they knew about, but with releases patches there proply were some unexpected bugs that came up as well.

I agree though heresy, with everyone ok with buggy games, this allows the developers to be lazy with bug finding. if they would ttake some more time to polish off this gem they could have a (polished) gem.

get it?

Watch this vid. The guy is doing nothing but WALKING and the framerate dips to ZERO.

After you watch it read everything from An Unbounded Game Running on Space-Constricted Systems on out.

@WT SAVAGE, MGS4, Vanquish, Split/Second, Mass Effect 2, Gears 3, Uncharted, Halo 3, SSF4, BlazBlue, Tales of Vesperia, Red Dead Redemption, Dead Space 2 and I can go on and on with this. None of these games "needed" a patch to restore it to normal playability. Patches might have come later, to change things, fix bugs and provide balance but like I said, none were to restore the game to normal playability. Watcht he vid and tell me if thats normal and what you've come to accept from companies.

First of all, Bethesda isn't just some company that waltzed their way into the gaming industry and had a easy journey to get to where they are at today. They never once went against their dignity and sold out their products (by dumbing it down) just to be successful like other developers, that alone should be respectable. Which may be a huge reason why they are so successful especially in todays industry, people are starting to realize "Hey, I'm tired of playing the same shit every week" and want something they can immerse themselves in that will provide plenty of bang for their buck.

These problems will be fixed in due time, regardless if its from the companies or fans of the game who do remarkable work for the modding community. It happens man, there is alot of variables in this game that causes flaws. Look at DX:HR which is much smaller but there was bugs that caused missions to become unbeatable, if anything that is inexcusable and I seen you give nothing but praise for that game.
what do you men by dumb down, like in what way?

You also gotta remember they (Bethesda) patch their previous releases for years even after new products come out to fix small bugs. Imagine if you wanted to hold a game back for that long of a time just to make sure its perfect, its not economically efficient. Push well made games out the door and constantly update them on the side while your working on new projects, be thankful they at least still work on their games for small problems that may occur. (Oblivion never had any big issues, but they keep finding cryptic shit to patch.)

I've been playing this game for about a week now, on PC. Of course I have a pirated copy, without any of the newer patches... but, my game seems to be working alright. I didn't read through the tread, but I think the patches are what messed up a lot of peoples games.

Bro, it's not about being "perfect." Nothing is perfect. This is about something working as advertised or working in a way that gives the player a good experience and is a reflection of the companies expertise and goodwill.

Now watch this vid and you tell me if this is acceptable. A yes or no will suffice bro. Is this acceptable? Would you want to play this? Would you enjoy playing this?
