Nah, it wasn't because of gameplay and problems. What this boils down to is the publisher, SQUARE ENIX, pushing it back for monetary/fiscal purposes. Their last titles ff13 and ff14 have FAILED and they are trying to make sure they have a good fiscal quarter/year.

Man I was typing this I got a call from my mom telling me some fool tried to break into my Grannies house. Fool didn't get past the first set of doors.

But for Deus Ex, S.E. didn't do the cutscenes from what I understand. That's all Eidos.

Originally scheduled for Q1 2011, meaning prior to March 2011, Square Enix delayed Eidos Montreal's latest installment in the Deus Ex series until Q2 2011, which has now been narrowed down to early April 2011

Although I think if it was coming out in 3 months they would advertise a specific date heavily by now to garner attention from gamers new o the franchise.

Great add on for DX1, "Shifter" is a mod that enhances gameplay and adds more to the game. I'd recommend beating the game first then trying this out on your second run through.
