Known by whom? Whites? Or the so-called mainstream? Certainly blacks knew who invented & began rap before the Beastie Boys ever came along...
Racism is an institutionalized system of racial subordination. There's a huge difference between oppression (racism) and the resistance of the oppressed (not racism). By using the word "devil" to describe the oppressor one is resisting oppression, not committing oppression. How can the oppressed possibly subordinate the oppressor? Your conceptualization of racism seems shallow.
I don't see why any black should reject that mentality. After all, for their own material benefit whites have been excluding and exploiting blacks and continue to do so. Rapping about the streets and how you have to strap a gun to your belt just to walk to the store is different then rapping about how your hard as rock because you kill people and laugh about it. You are a product of your environment. I'm not a wigger but I am heavily interested and in some ways involved in hip-hop culture. I have surrounded myself with it for as long as I've had a say in what I did (my parents were always very lax on shit like that, they never wanted me to grow up to be a sheltered kid.) I grew up in rough times, moving a few times a year from bad neighbourhood to bad neighbourhood. Sure, there were a couple nice places in my childhood, but I'm far from your average suburban white boy (never lived in a suburb, always urban areas).
