This is from Mike Marley
Floyd Mayweather must have packed his penchant for being involved in controversial situations in his suitcase.
On a rare trip overseas, the undefeated Mayweather was wearing his promoter's hat an IBF junior welterweight elimination bout in Antwerp, Belgium, where his boxer, Said Ouali, was taking on Lou DiBella handled former world champ and devastating puncher, Randall Bailey.
I spoke to a man who spoke to a man...no, this not a Marley madcap joke...
Anyway, the second man was an eyewitness to the wild mayhem Friday night that ensued and resulted in a highly questionable no contest ruling.
In the opening round, hammer hitter and southpaw slinger Bailey drilled Ouali with a punch or punches which floored Mayweather's protege.
According to the ringsider, a count well beyond 10 seconds, perhaps lasting up to 15 seconds, ensued and Ouali took advantage of the long count to get up to battle on.
In round two, Ouali somehow collided with Bailey's body and seemed to be hit forcefully by the Floridian's shoulder.
Ouali then went flying over the top rope and out of the ring, landing on a scorer's table.
Mayweather's boxer was then given five minutes to revive himself and climb under his own power back into the ring.
It is said that Oulai remained on his back, perhaps feigning injury, perhaps not.
When the five minutes expired, Ouali was removed from the arena on a stretcher.
I asked the man who spoke to the man what Mayweather did in the midst of the furor over the no contest.
"Floyd just smiled, like he knew he got away with something," the man told the man who told me said.
Early word has the Bailey camp protesting both the "long count" and the no contest for obvious reasons.
More details as they come in...
