Going to the Forum tomorrow night for Marquez vs Alvarado.
I heard\read a lot of bad things about the newly "renovated" place, but hopefully it's not as bad as people make it out to be.
Should be a great night of fights. A 10 fight card is a little too much for me though. Doors open at 3pm or so. I will probably go in around 5pm.

Yeah, he's in his 30's and he's been in like 8 really hard fights out of his last 10. 2 of those ended in a knockout after a brutal fight.

Marquez Alvarado Marquez vs. Alvarado mike alvarado juan manuel marquez By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO light welterweight champion Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO’s) sees 40-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO’s) as an old lion that is standing in his way from a big money fight against Manny Pacquiao that would set him up for life with millions in the bank. Alvarado doesn’t want to let Marquez ruin his big payday fight against Pacquiao. Alvarado realizes that he can’t lose this fight due to what’s at stake for him. Marquez has already made his millions in his four fights with Pacquiao, and now Alvarado wants his turn at going to the bank.
“He [Marquez] doesn’t belong in the ring with younger lions anymore. He’s a grandpa lion,” Alvarado said while laughing long and loud. “I’m going to do whatever it takes to win. I’m really not worried about Marquez.
I just think it’s time for him to pass that torch. It’s in me to exploit that out of him. If the knockout comes, it comes, but I’m always ready to fight to the distance. At first [when I found I was fighting Marquez], I was like, ‘It’s crazy,’ but now I’m like, ‘He’s in my way; I got to handle business.’ Now I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do to stay at this level.”
Alvarado, a two-time state wrestling champion in high school, plans on using his size and youth to batter Marquez and show him that he’s too old and too small to be in the ring with him. Alvarado’s trainer feels that he’s punching with more power now, and that he has a good chance of hurting Marquez.
It’s not likely that Alvarado will be able to knock Marquez out, because no ones done that to him during his long 21-year pro career. But Alvarado definitely has a good chance of beating up Marquez and winning a decision in this fight. The power that Marquez had in his knockout win over Manny Pacquiao in 2012 seems to have disappeared since that fight, and he looks smaller and older now. He’s going to have problems against Alvarado without that power, because he doesn’t match up well against him.

He looked really good but for some reason drew a lot of boos from the crowd. I'm surprised he was the 5th fight on a 10 fight card. I actually got there when he started. Pretty much outclasses his opponent. Dropping hands, throwing flashy shots, etc. His opponent was game though.
Oscar Valdez was very impressive.
I can;t believe Aydin got dropped like that. He was just gassed, chasing and trying to get inside the entire fight.

Thanks for the recap, glad you got to catch his fight. Personally I'd rather the seats you're at over floor seats, unless I'm right up front. I hate being on the floor behind a crowd of people at the same level.

I don't know why there isn't an outcry about testing Marquez. I think it's pretty obvious he's on the juice. Literally every single sign that would raise a suspicions other than a failed test is there. People typically don't develop more punching power as they go up above their best weight and he has. His body has totally transformed which doesn't necessarily equate to punching power, but it's obviously changed. He's 40 and looked to be faster this time than in his last 2-4 fights, stamina is excellent etc... and now the blatant chest acne. Not to mention, this dude obviously has shown that he's willing to take WHATEVER would give him an edge, he used to drink his own piss!

He dropped like 5lbs. 5 freakin pounds. Give me an example of someone dropping 5lbs and being quite a bit faster. If that's an easy one for you, give me one for someone that bulked up like crazy, and came to the ring with acne all over his chest.
