Dropping 5 lb of fat when you are about 150 could make you a lot faster in a game of milliseconds.

I don't think he is taking a banned substance. I do believe he's taking in more than his share of protein and veggies. Not based on acne because you can easily prevent that. Professionally bodybuilders don't step on stage with zits. People in the gym who use don't break out all crazy. Just usually people who don't know how to run proper cycles. A couple of pre cautionary measures and things to take during your cycle will prevent break outs like that. So I would never use it as a clear sign of someone taking PEDs, plus not all PEDs will give you acne.

There should be testing though. Not sure why there isn't...

He wasn't 150 and he wasn't fat. He had basically the same exact looking body at the weigh in for Bradley and Alvarado, minus the acne of course. And since when do protein and veggies cause crazy acne all over your chest and only your chest? I haven't seen pictures of his back but I'd guess there's some evidence there too.

I'll put it like this, there's more evidence on the surface and more suspicion against him taking something illegal, there is to defend his case. Not to mention his working with Angel Herredia who was banned from other sports for PED's

I stated that he probably IS taking more than protein and veggies, but also whatever he is taking isn't a banned substance. Anything that gives you an imbalance in your hormones will give you acne, that doesn't mean it's illegal or a banned substance. I just get tired of people seeing acne and assuming the person is running a cycle. What about the ones who get popped and don't have acne? You can run a full 16 week gig and not get one pimple if you do it right. To say someone is on gear because he has zits on his chest is too weak of a case. Maybe he shaved with a cheap razor that morning, who knows...

CZAR @CZAR Floyd wasn't going to allow the fight to happen anyways. Floyd ran to another network and he himself stated that the fight will never happen. Besides, Floyd is not making numbers for Showtime so now they are stuck with a serious problem, especially if Arum and Oscar do start making business again and start doing fights with HBO. The first fight, besides Lomo vs Russell, that will happen under agreed terms seems like it might be Manny vs Maidana! Since TR and HBO can't get a fight between Floyd vs Pacman, their next mission will be to destroy Mayweather's brand and Showtime. I don't think Oscar cares for Floyd's business desires either

Golovkin wants Cotto-Martinez winner

Cotto Martinez Cotto vs. Martinez sergio martinez miguel cotto gennady golovkin By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) is hoping he can get a shot at the winner of the June 7th fight between WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez vs. Miguel Cotto. Golovkin matches up well with either of these guys, and it would give Golovkin his first big name of his career.

Golovkin thought he was close to getting a fight against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, but the negotiations between the two fighters’ teams fell apart recently leaving Golovkin staring at a fight against either Daniel Geale, who was beaten last year by Darren Barker, or Jarrod Fletcher. Neither option is particularly interesting.

“It’s very interesting [Cotto vs. Martinez] to me,” Golovkin said to ESPN’s Dan Rafael. “Sergio is bigger, he is stronger. Miguel is small, too small for Sergio. Of course, I want to fight the person who will win the fight. It would be very big. I want to fight the winner.”

It would be a big fight between Golovkin and the winner of the Cotto-Martinez fight. It would be the biggest fight in the middleweight division right now. However, I don’t think either of these guys will want to mix it up with a puncher like Golovkin. I would be very surprised if either of them agreed to fight Golovkin. I’d say the chances of the winner of the Cotto vs. Martinez fighting Golovkin are less than 5%.

Cotto has already talked about not defending the WBC middleweight title if he wins it. He just wanted to win the belt in order to capture a 4th division world title. Cotto is expected to move down to the junior middleweight division and fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez win or lose in his fight against Sergio Martinez. Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya is eager to match Canelo and Cotto up. But as far as Golovkin goes, he’s not likely to even be given a consideration by Sergio and Cotto. He’s too good.

About the best Golovkin can hope for is that the WBA will let him fight Geale instead of the guy that they picked out for him to fight Jarrod Fletcher. Geale is known by hardcore boxing fans in the U.S, and he’s got a lot of fans in Australia. He looked pretty bad in getting beaten by Barker last year, but Golovkin’s team and HBO obviously would be hoping that boxing fans didn’t see that fight or that they had forgotten about it.

Geale is probably a step down from Curtis Stevens for Golovkin, but there’s just no one for him to fight in the middleweight division. Felix Sturm won’t fight him, and likely neither will Sergio Martinez. Peter Quillin fights on Showtime, so that keeps a fight between him and Golovkin from being made because Golovkin fights on HBO.

Maidana Tells Trainer Robert Garcia “He’ll Retire” If He Doesn’t Get The Mayweather Rematch

Mayweather Maidana Mayweather vs. Maidana marcos rene maidana floyd mayweather jr By Rocky Esposito: Ring Magazine “Trainer of the Year” Robert Garcia told ESNEWS in an interview yesterday that Marcos “El Chino” Maidana (35-4 / 31 KOs) has informed him that he will retire if he does not get the rematch with Floyd “Money” Mayweather. At first, Robert Garcia’s tone and demeanor in the interview seemed to be as if he was just kidding around. He even joked and said “He (Maidana) has a 100 cows, he’s already set for life”. However, when he elaborated on the topic, he switched modes and said Maidana was in fact serious.

As a Boxing fan, I enjoy watching Marcos Maidana fight. Ever since his first fight in the United States, when he upset Victor Ortiz back on 6/27/09, you knew he was a talented, action packed fighter with a ton of heart. Also, since he has teamed up with Robert Garcia, he has never looked better in his entire professional career. I even give his Strength and Conditioning Coach Alex Ariza a ton of credit. Maidana was in the best shape of his life vs Mayweather and it showed in his performance.

Marcos Maidana is only 30 years old. He is 4-1 under the tutelage of Robert Garcia. Although he did not beat Floyd, he has only gotten better and better with each performance under Garcia and all the while the opponents got tougher and tougher. Maidana also has added a legitimate jab to his arsenal now. To me, as a Boxing fan, it seems too premature for Maidana to walk away from Boxing, especially at this point of his career, just when he seems to be performing at his best. Maidana should not retire, whether he gets the Mayweather rematch or not.

Due to Boxing’s Cold War, I thought the future of the Welterweight Division would be determined by a potential match up in the near future between Keith “One Time” Thurman (23-0 / 21KOs) and Shawn “Showtime” Porter (24-0-1 / 15KOs). Currently, Thurman is 25 years old (11/23/88), and Porter is 26 (10/27/87). Maidana is just a little older at 30. However, Maidana has the edge in overall ring experience, facing adversity, and being on the biggest stages. And again, he is fighting the best of his career. Whereas Thurman and Porter, (whom I both like very much), are still trying to gain more ring experience, face better and better competition and polish their skills. (Both are on the right paths and seem to be destined for each other). But, if Maidana does not retire, he may be a very tough obstacle for these guys to hurdle. I would love to see Thurman vs Maidana, Porter vs Maidana. Good matchups!

Only time will tell if Maidana is truly serious about retiring if he does not get the Mayweather rematch. We have to keep in mind though, he did come close once, after his one-sided lose to Devon Alexander back in February of 2012. Maidana also could have made this statement simply to make sure Golden Boy & Al Haymon are applying whatever influence/pressure on Floyd that they can for finalizing a rematch. Marcos Maidana walks to the beat of his own drum. (If there is a rematch, I wonder if the gloves will be an issue!). God Bless!

Will HBO PPV get the Last Laugh in 2014?

sergio martinez saul alvarez miguel cotto manny pacquiao floyd mayweather jr So far in 2014, the boxing pay-per-view advantage appears to be with HBO. HBO might have dodged a bullet by not making a counteroffer to keep Floyd Mayweather Jr. from going to Showtime. Mayweather marketed himself towards the Mexican fan base who wants to see him lose against one of their countrymen. If Golden Boy does not have a Mexican champion to offer Mayweather, the only other option is fight a superstar like in the past Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley to achieve high pay-per-view numbers.

Fortunately, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was a boxing star and a powerful paper champion, but Golden Boy was forced to use him due to the poor pay-per-view numbers Mayweather had against Robert Guerrero. Even with no credible wins, Canelo was able to draw in many Mexican fans as for the first 39 fights and 7 years of his professional career were strategically based in Mexico.
As for Guerrero, an unofficial statement made by head of Showtime Sports Stephen Espinoza claimed that they felt comfortable with one million pay-per-view buys and it will take weeks to add up all the numbers, but no exact figure was ever released. Now over two weeks after the Maidana, there are still no numbers.

Regardless how competitive the Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana fight was, Maidana was an unknown boxer to most casual fans and was still a huge underdog going into the fight. Interestingly, Mayweather has created a dilemma with his undercards. In the lead up to the Maidana fight, most people were interested in the undercard selection rather than the fight itself. He is now expected to deliver on his card and as expensive as the most recent undercard was, three one one-sided fights will not justify.

As for Manny Pacquiao, fighting a rematch against Tim Bradley to justify the previously controversial loss against Bradley was guaranteed to be fewer than one million buys especially since his road to the rematch included a knock out loss to Juan Manuel Marquez and fighting a light welterweight Brandon Rios who was also coming off a loss in a Asian market that had no demand for the fight. If a Mayweather-Maidana II or Pacquaio-Marquez V happened latter this year, both fights have the potential of generating about the same amount of pay-per-view buys, but HBO can potentially create a better overall strategy.

There is no doubt HBO’s Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez so far is going to be the biggest boxing pay-per-view event this year and no undercard is required. The outcome of the fight will be very interesting. If the favored Martinez wins, it is almost guaranteed that Pacquiao will fight him. Martinez has already stated he was willing to fight Cotto at a 156 catch weight and still has one more contracted fight with HBO. As the bigger star, Pacquiao will capitalize on that statement and Bob Arum will likely make sure his fighter gets all the possible advantages now that he has resigned with Top Rank. Pacquiao has already made the statement he is willing to fight the winner of that fight and this will then easily become the biggest boxing pay-per-view event which Showtime cannot match even with Floyd on their side. If Cotto wins, he has the most to gain from all of this. Both Cotto and Pac are trained by Freddie Roach, but it most likely Cotto will get another trainer for that fight to happen. From a money and legacy perspective, both Mayweather and Pacquiao will jump at the chance to fight someone they defeated in a championship fight in a weight class neither man has fought in. Both are in need of higher pay-per-view numbers and Cotto would absolutely deliver in the long term. Unknown are the full contract details between Showtime and Mayweather, but I can guarantee Showtime’s interests are on the financial aspects and not keeping Floyd undefeated. Naturally, there are contract obligations Floyd has to meet and the corporate pressures will force him to take riskier fights if it means more money.

Mayweather has already mentioned that he will fight September 13, but HBO can easily stick a Cotto-Pac or a Martinez-Pac on September 6 which will create a bigger demand than any Mayweather vs. Golden Boy fighter will generate including Maidana. That will easily force under one million pay-per-view buys for Floyd. As mentioned, Cotto has the most to gain from this if he wins as a free agent he can jump from Showtime and HBO. Pacquiao will be at disadvantage if Cotto wins, the catch weight will be in Cotto’s favor this time. Pacquiao has never weighed more than 148 pounds at weigh-in for any one of his fights and to fight for 160 pound belt he will have to weigh at least 155 pounds if Cotto gives him that opportunity. Cotto will not be a drained 145 pound fighter like he was in their first encounter. The fact is Pac’s declining pay-per-view numbers compared to the numbers expected with the Cotto-Martinez will generate this year will increase Cotto’s negotiating powers in a Pac fight. Adding to the fact Pac’s recent performances are steadily on the decline and Arum’s willingness to accept anything Cotto asks for knowing he can easily fight Floyd or Canelo can create advantages for Cotto that will help him redeem his loss against Pac. This will be an extremely risky fight for Pacquaio and an opportunity for Cotto to skyrocket once again.

Mayweather will also have a huge issue if a Pac-Cotto fight happens this year. In order to meet his contract obligations (whatever they are), it is most likely Showtime will want the winner to fight Mayweather. Pacquiao would have claimed a division Mayweather has yet to reach, and if Mayweather’s pay-per-view numbers are on a decline too, Pac and Cotto will have more negotiating power especially if Cotto wins and has two over one million pay-per-view buy events in 2014. Mayweather has been fighting allot more recently, and has weighed well under 150 pounds in all his fights with Showtime (including Canelo where he stated he walked into the ring at 146), he did not look too impressive against Maidana, and Cotto gave Mayweather a competitive fight. Cotto owes neither Pacquiao nor Mayweather any favors. They will need him more unless they decide to fight each other or continue to have rematches that will not generate huge numbers. Martinez as a victor will have to agree to whatever Pac wants, but Cotto as a victor, Pac will have to agree with whatever Cotto asks for. If Cotto were to defeat Pac, the demand for a Mayweather fight will go through the roof. Cotto can force Floyd to meet on his terms at middleweight because Cotto’s pay-per-view numbers will be more relevant and Showtime’s pressure to make the fight happen. Overall, I view all the fights mentioned as 50/50 fights now, but Cotto has the opportunity to capitalize on the feud between Mayweather/Golden Boy and Top Rank. This year, HBO pay-per-view boxing will be the clear winner without Floyd Money Mayweather.

At 6'0 in the 140 division he's going to tower over everyone. Most middleweights aren't even that tall. Like a P Williams. But he's only 18 he gonna grow.

Nice to see some young talent under Anne Wolfe. I hear rumors James Kirkland is now suing 50 cent and left Wolfe again. SMDH if true.
