Wouldnt matter that much because a real artist isnt making music for the money and If they would then I wouldnt give fuck about them.......so download away!
It takes $ to make the music..you know that right ? You act like everything is taken care of and the artist can make music freely lol. You can ivolve love all you want into music...with out $ it goes nowhere, you have alot to learn about creating a musical product.

putting a band aid on a ak-47 gun wound

hell, lets make it a few ak-47 gun woulds for measure, and lets make those childrens 'dora the explorer' 99 cent toddler bandaids

nothing against what your doing
just sayin dawg

the issue = file hosting companies

what your doing is like targeting street drug dealers thinking it will erase drugs from the streets....no, theres a bigger chain of command...half of those sites are really just copying and pasting shit from places most of you will never go (newsgroups, ftp, etc etc)

the real question is this: at what risk do we want to police and secure the internet? is compact disc cd's the only issue that would be effected, say we found a way to control this? just something to think about.

if you noticed the new thing is to flood the net with free material until they feel slightly guilty then in turn buy your album as an act of support and kindness for all the free music. im not saying that everyone should take this route, but what i am saying is that had i downloaded rydahs the fly young gangsta off that site (almost did my brehs..might go back for it) its really just a reflection of that albums availability in whole. ive never even seen that shit on a shelf, had i seen it id buy it. should i scour bay area record stores till i find it? or just download it? hmm.

am i really gonna be scouring the net when rydahs new shit drops? nah, ima still buy it. but thats me and support.

i feel you on the like....grouprip-up-to-the-hour release and put it on the net shit. that shits slightly foul and whoever does that should really be found and shot, but thats IMHO. thats whats fucking up the hustle

every time i see a thread like this it makes me think of someone pissing on a forest fire to put it out.

indo - your intentions are noble but in the end there is nothing anyone can do about downloading. in my opinion the best thing to do is embrace it as a way to increase your fan base and look at other revenue streams besides album sales.

That excuse is really played out now homie. majority use exactly what you said in your post just to hide the fact that they are moochers/thieves . You wonder why the Bay aint on...smh. Its nothing new of course but your only hurting the very artist you socall "Support" .
its the rappers falut for making music that sucks than. Im not going to be out 15 of my hard erned dollars for an album that is horrible. That is why i download it before i buy.

Download our shit all you want... At the end of the day though im hoping the thousands we put into production, recording and mastering you would be better off owning the real cd and slappin that shit in your ride, which is the way I want my music heard, and is the way I listen to my shit... not on a laptop speaker system or a ipod, I dont care if you got Dr. Dres headphones... Shits weak... My shit was made for speakers that slapp and people who are lookin for that...period! But at the end of the day, you wana download my shit for free, do it, I aint stoppin ya...we still get paid one way or another.

don't complain about artists putting out wack shit if you don't support them. if artists aren't making money on albums then they aren't gonna put money back into it, which means no features, bad production, weak graphics, etc....

Can't touch file hosting companies their servers are in Russia. People will never go back to buying music especially CD's. Cd's are dead. If a artist is trying to make a living from album sales then they are pretty ignorant. Go on tours and sell merch and sell the CD's your self and sign em if you want to make a living. I download at least 4 albums a day and more then half of the time I delete the folder cuz it sucks now why would I go broke for a cd that might suck? I support artist by going to their shows ect. Honestly cd's to me personally are inconvenient they take to much room and they scratch up too easily and I'm too lazy to rip it on my computer to put it on my Ipod.

I wish as well we can go back to the days where people supported the artist and shit but lets be realistic here it's not going to happen of album sales not now and maybe ever with the way shit is going.

I watch sites for the first 30-60 days of a release , anything after that should be promo for the next project in my book . It does make you mad tho when in the first or second week of your sales you find a site givin away ya shit with 60 pages of "Thank you " replys knowing atleast a few of those should have been itunes sales . It is what it is .

I feel both arguments from a consumers point of view and an artists side.i currently have a lawsuit pending dealing with copywrite infringement.i dont fault the people who download i fault the people who make it available.if artists sit bacc and do nothing ths matter will only get worse and eventually record companies will release fewer projects.it will hurt us all so before u give such a selfish opinion think about the entire state of music in general.

Truth you speak but if the attitude is going to be "you cant do anything" then it will always happen. If all artist/lables really took the time to go threw the legal actions and sue mathafaks for stealing money from there hard work, its wont stop everything but make people think before they open one up illeagal download sites, not mad at the people (only the ones who use excuses and reasons just to cover up there mooching)

LOL! This is the reverse side of the D Boy on the block slangin' and being snitched on. He's not only damaging the fiend. He's killing him slowly, causing pain and hurt to his family, causing him to steal from his family for his habit. The people in the community call the police to get the Dope Man off the block, but there are more just like him on the next block etc.

These sites are the Dope Man on the web slangin' music for free and in return they get traffic going through their websites. Or simply satisfaction from the amount of downloads (go figure.) Yet, it's taking money from the artist pocket and that is slowly killing the music game, causing pain and taking money from not only the artist, but everybody involved in that project. One site get's shut down, another one pop's up somewhere else and so on.

I guess that would be a sense of Karma for the artist / label who got into the game from drug money.

LMAO!!!!!

Seriously though, as an independent artist / CEO I see the points made in here, but that's like the community getting together to do a march to stop the violence. And only when it effects us, that's when we scream for unity amongst our community.

Prior to that, nobody gives a shit :ermm:

I look at it as promotion for the records that I put my money and time into. Thats for me. Stretch. I cannot and wouldn't speak on anybody else. I don't view it as a "problem" but more like the evolution of technology. It's all about "ease of use" and it's easier to get an album for free then it is to buy it and as long as that's the case this will continue. I've embraced it and use it to our advantage. Cuz 9/10 people are not gonna buy the album before hearing it just cuz they couldn't download it. If the album is good word will spread and money will come from shows, merchandise and even records sales from the fans you've EARNED.

napster started the free music thing....the creator got sued for a shitload of money

what happened next? similar programs popped up everywhere and excelled

theres no way to beat free downloads without taking away some of the freedom that the internet allows us

I can understand both arguments.
If its someone like E-40 I know right away thats gonna slap and I buy without downloading or listening to snippets. If its dope I like to put some money in the artists pocket for quality music.

But on the other side alot of wack ass music is around right now and people cant afford to buy 10 upcoming albums without hearing atleast part of em, for the fear that its recycled songs or just crap.

An album like Indo and Agermans deserves to be bought and I can see how that would piss them off if its on a bunch of sites for free download, can report the links and get em taken down but as others said, 10mins later new link will be up.

Its more the group rippers, uploaders and host sites that are the issue then the person who posted the link. You can really just type in the name of an album on google, put download behind it and there you go.

Hard to say about a way to deal with this issue though, I see good points on both sides. Guess I just trust people to buy something that they REALLY like.

I wouldnt have found out about alot of Jazz from around the world or some of the less known bay area artists without the internet, cant buy an album if you aint heard of the mc or group before. As THIZZ said, sometimes its good exposure as some of those dudes who downloaded will buy it to slap the real cd in there ride,etc..

There still are people out there who like to support good music though.
If all albums were the quality of Known Associates Vol.3, SB and Krypto - Covering Grounds or this new Agerman/Indo album then I dont think people would pirate as much, but alot of boo boo shit out there these days.

You gotta support good music though if you want more good music to keep coming out ya dig. Quality albums are not done for free.
