Its going to take trading some good talent to get either one of them. Not sure how I feel about this. We continue to put W's on the board. Getting a guy like Dye would be great, but he is 35. He probably has another 2 good years in him. Martinez on the other hand is 31, but was injured quite a bit in 08. In fact theyre both a bit prone to injury at least from what I remember just in hearing about them, mostly DTD injuries, but enough that it could make an impact.

This is a tough desicion for Sabean, and I think a trade this year will be the deciding factor for whether he gets to keep his job.

I think we can continue winning without making a trade for a bat, as long as we maximize the production of the personnel we have (i.e. clearing room for Bowker, Frandsen, etc. on the active roster)...but getting a boost at a position where we aren't getting above average production would be great, if the cost were right...

What I like about Martinez is that he has a club option for 2010, this allows us to let Molina walk (while collecting draft picks because he's most likely a Type A) and gives Posey more than enough time to refine his game until he can be brought up at mid-season to spell Martinez at catcher.

Also, Martinez can play some 1B giving us some flexibility...
Something about letting Molina walk just don't feel right. He's done a lot for the team in the time he's been here. I also appreciate that he seems to want to be here, even in the down years.

But business is business I suppose. I always wonder how things would have turned out if we hung on to Will Clark after 93. His didnt play the way he used to after 93 but players always change when they move leagues and new stadiums and team chemistry.

650 said "can" and i said "potential/possibility". however i also said learn to read, what i meant was learn to comprehend..
and i said that he Sandoval will NEVER have game changing defense at 3B or 20-30 stolen bases at any given time in his career................therefore he willnever be better than Wright...............even his he exceeds all expectations his hittingwill at best be EVEN with Wright..........but wright is still off the charts higher than Sandoval in plus speed and plus plus defense.....

as for Pujols Sandoval will NEVER put up Pujols type numbers.............therefore he CANT be the best 1B in baseball.........get the poing................

knowing baseball isnt just about watching a few games.......it takes a lot of time and experience.............along with beign able to PROJECT what a player is capable of doing over the course of a season and/or a career.......

bumgarner is an ace, that puts us at 3 aces in our rotation. in the next 2 years..
wow...i was completely unaware that Madison B. has already proven against Major league palyers that he IS an "Ace"...............lets just crown him a future multiple CY Young award winner already

sosa or alderson could be an ace, or both. its quite possible.
or they could both be duds and never reach the majors.............it wouldnt be the first time

and you forgot the a's with hudson, mulder, zito.
that rotation was 1 "Ace" and 2 very good pitchers......................with mulder not quite achieving "ace" status...................Zito was never an "Ace"......Hudson is a true "Ace" but has had injury problems throughout his career, especially since moving to Atlanta

i agree it doesnt "feel" right. but feelings and business shouldnt mix.

bengie is 34 years old and had a decline offensively this year. he started off hot, then went ice cold. he could recover this year and has at least another 2-3 years in him but i'd like to get something decent for him at least. either draft compensated picks or a trade.

and i like bengie a lot but the 1 thing i'm sick of is his slow fat ass clogging up the basepads.

LOL at a cy young winner never being an ace. a guy who went 23-5 with a 2.75 era on the year while winning the cy young.

(take notes Rekz, this is where you can use that little dead smiley you enjoy)

^^^ his career avg is .276. his current .259 is his 2nd worst avg not including his rookie year. so ud be wrong to think his 2nd worst year is on par.

however you cant beg to differ that he is 34 years old and that we have buster posey waiting

Martinez line..........20-4, 2.26 ERA, 239 K's, 199 IP, .198 BAA, 0.92 WHIP

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6394/career;_ylt=AgePdFQP.wLY.CC8LjWNbYiFCLcFZito
Zito line................23-5 2.75 ERA, 182 K's, 229.1 IP, .218 BAA, 1.13 WHIP

a pitcher with over 185 strikeouts only once in his career and averaging around 25 HR allowed per season isnt IMO a true "Ace"

.......and about the CY Young award............i will say it until i am blue in the face....he won that by Default because of Pedro Martinez refusing to pitch down the stretch.......................the press really hit Pedro hard for that and IMO they voted for Zito that year...............dont get me wrong Z put up good numbers.....................
