got food poisoning from a chalupa from Taco Bell when i was like 12, could never eat a chalupa again.

worst food poisoning ever was I used to order this fried chicken sandwich from the safeway deli (boneless fried chicken strips, bacon, chipotle, lettuce, onion), and I ate it on my lunch period, AT Safeway. I come back from lunch, start counting money, and like 45 minutes later I'm so dizzy I cant stand up. I go from sweating profusely to freezing my ass off. While sweating I go back into the back freezer and feel a little better, only to break out into a cold sweat and go back to the money room where the heater is blasting. I'm close to passing out from being so dizzy when my stomach starts to turn and I run to the bathroom and violently yack all over the stall.

I was so sick I puked for a good 2 hours, then was dizzy and in a cold sweat for the rest of the night. I had to ask for a ride home from work from a friend, who didnt fuckin believe me that I was sick. I convince him to get me, and he has to pull over on the side of the freeway so I can yack. I couldnt even hold down the Sprite I was drinking.

Either the chicken was raw or someone sneezed on the sandwich roll. I never again ordered a sandwich from there.

Food poisoning is mainly the cause of those nasty microscopic bugs we call bacteria. You ingest them, they start colonizing and going to town on your bodies inner workings.

Whats gross is most food poisening comes from shit. Meaning somewhere in chain, someone didn't wash there hands after taking a shit, touch the bathroom door ect.. Go back to work, and touch the food you eat.

oh and the fucking manager thought I was faking being sick, and didnt believe me that it was food poisoning, and insisted that I had the flu.

In 3 years I called sick into work 3 times, and twice was because of a sprained ankle I sustained while working there. fucking cocksuckers.

I was working at safeway and after getting hired you have a 90 day probation period. This happened 45 days in. I was moving a load on a pallet in the back room and stepped on a stray pallet as I was backing up and badly sprained my ankle. It was so swollen I couldn't walk on it. I called out sick the next two days I was scheduled, due to not being able to walk on it. Management knew what happened and told me to stay home, but then gave me shit when I called in, because I was scheduled. I asked them about filing for worker's comp and the store manager "recommended" I didn't because I probably wouldn't get it.

All that being said, they can let you go, with no reason whatsoever, within that probation period, and the union can't do anything about it. Many employees said that people who had tried to file for worker's comp in that first 90 period were let go. Also, after you file, there's an arbitration period where you don't get any pay, and you can't work either, while you wait for them to rule on your claim. So, to me, calling out a couple days was the better option than trying to file, lose my job, or lose out on time and money. I needed the job and money more than trying to deal with filing a claim.

on top of all that, they fucked with peoples schedules constantly, including not giving you your requested days off, scheduling you on days you told them u couldnt work (school, etc.), giving u the minimum number of hours, giving u shit hours, (both 4 hour shifts, or working 3 to midnight, then coming back at 10 am the next day, etc) and thats not worth it either. they would also deliberately schedule you on holidays, and your birthday, because that probation period means u dont get holiday pay nor do u get the day off (unless for some reason they forgot to schedule u)

moreover, after workers comp, it is company policy that u perform "light duty" at another store. So lets say I worked in Novato, where I lived, I'd get sent to a SF store until I was deemed fully healthy and could return to my store. Light duty also includes doing shit like checking dates on products, like the 1000's of spices on the shelf.
