Everything else being added to the discussion about, the child should have known better, the toy looked real, yadayada is all irrelevant opinion to the facts.
all this shits important breh. its important as the facts. kids really need to know that carrying a fake gun is not the business. especially a teenager. theres a lot of crime committed by teens. one of the facts (from what i understand) is the cops put the berries on and blurped the boy. he mighta been spooked as fuck and just froze. but a majority of the time, when a cop blurps someone and orders them to do what ever the fuck, and you dont respond or ignore, and you got a chop (that looks real as fuck), theres gonna be problems. since some kids might not know better, or think they're invincible, its really up to the parents. the kid really mighta not known better.

No disrespect to you or even the residents of Chicago (they being disrespected enough by their government), but Chicago is a poor example considering their attacks on the 2nd Amendment and gun ownership among law abiding citizens. Chicago is a prime example however of a city that does it wrong. It should be no surprise that a city has that many gun related homicides when they don't want to allow law abiding citizens their rights to gun ownership.

While I don't necessarily disagree with, that is an entirely different discussion.

My point was simply that it is silly to say that you are afraid cops and not afraid of non-cops when statistically if you are shot, it is multiple orders of magnitude more likely that the person who shot you was not a cop.

I totally agree that police need to have their training programs completely reevaluated and changed.

However, while I can't speak for other cities, I know one of the biggest obstacles to that happening in Seattle is the Police Union. Kinda like how Teachers Unions are one of the biggest impairments to the education system.

All we need to know is 1) A 13 year old child was shot 7 times in the back by a law enforcement officer 2) The child was carrying a toy gun, not a real one 3) The child was not carrying the toy gun in the commission of a crime or breaking any laws 4) It is not unlawful to carry a toy gun

Everything else being added to the discussion about, the child should have known better, the toy looked real, we should expect the police to kill us when we are not breaking any laws, yadayada is all irrelevant opinion to the facts.
Still could have been avoided in the 1st place if someone with common sense told him that he could get in trouble walking around on the street with those toys. A shame that he or his parent's didn't have it. I know I did around that age.

I strongly agree with everything you said except the part about being racially profiled. How do we know he was racially profiled? We can't say that for sure. They went after him first and foremost because of the gun. Maybe the fact that he was Latino made them more trigger happy, but we really don't know that.
I think it was just as much racial profiling as it was an honest mistake... They assume criminality a lot quicker when you're black or latino e.g. even if it crossed their minds that it might have been a toy gun considering the kid's age, the kid being latino probably convinced them of otherwise.

^^^but they couldnt find that out before hitting him 7 times huh?
i dont even know you personally but i know for a fact if you saw someone around the young teen age on the streets, with a chop lookin real, your gonna go the other way. your not gonna try and find out his age, or if his gun is real or not. you might not shoot him, but thats not in your job description so you get the benefit of no back lash. your being really unrealistic. you hate cops, for probably no good personal reason other than rap songs, and you expect them to have every piece of information in hand when they spot something that seems odd.

no, u dont know me, so u dont know what experiences ive had with cops. and no its not my fucking job to go questioning people and shooting people based on whatever assumptions ive made about them. it IS their job to find out what the "odd" situation is before killing them though. They signed up to make the hard decisions, and in this case it wasn't difficult enough. they shot first, asked questions later, and Im angry about it because once again they get away with it and get support for it rather than being truly questioned about it. another needless death swept under the rug. Im also taking the 'fuck the police' attitude as far as I can because of the sympathy ya'll seem to give THEM, as if their lives are sooo fucked up by this. they are PROTECTED by their actions, not scrutinized by them, while a fucking kid is lit up like Denzel at the end of training day.

and I been fucked with cops more than my fair share. I also have an uncle that was a Kansas City cop who couldn't hang after a bad night in downtown KC and became a DARE officer. My girls dad was a legitimate SF detective who didn't need to beat people or take bribes, but was one of the best interrogators the department had. I know cops come in all types and the job isnt easy. I know not all cops are bad and basing a "Fuck the police" attitude off rap music is childish and idiotic, and definitely not me. I do however believe that cops can and do abuse their power in a way that there is no backlash, that instead we shrug and go "oh well, the kid was stupid." was he stupid? sure. that doesn't mean you get to be unlawfully murdered by the police.

and the criminals are worse than the cops argument isn't valid because the cops aren't supposed to be criminals. and i can say the same thing about criminal activity, that people think being "gangster" or a "thug" is based off rap music. but i dont judge.

you see how you got it super twisted cus of emotion? your white right? you know what color people (kids) got the "fuck the police" mind set on high speed? blacks and browns. blacks and browns get fucked with by the police for no reason. not all police, but a relatively small percentage that gives a purple ass black eye to every officer and department in america. now these kids grow up believing fuck the police is what it is. do you really think that helps them in life? do you really think the police are their biggest problem, as far as what type of person is most likely to cause them harm? you get to live in Midtown Sac. theres a little bit of blacks and browns there, but for the most part that is a pretty nice white area. one of the nicest areas in the city of Sac. if theres a shooting in that area, its a big deal and rocks the area. most of the black and brown kids get to live in Del Paso Heights, Arden-Arcade, Oak Park, South Sac, North Highlands, you probably get the picture. they dont have the artists, yuppies, senior citizen white couples and bicycle lanes in their neighborhoods. they get the other shit that the cops try to deal with to "try" and clean up where them kids live. those kids get to deal with shit that you dont, cus of where you can afford to live. a lot of those kids "need" the police in their areas. your mentality fucks those kids heads up. they have a lot more riding against them than you cus of their skin tone, where they live. though some officers can be a problem, over all, the police are the smallest of problems for them kids.

Not exactly. The officers themselves aren't the biggest problem, it's the skewed system that they're helping to enforce. What those kids "need" are police officers that live in or are from their neighborhoods and know who's who and what's what. They need officers who don't automatically think "suspect" anytime they see a black or brown male wearing street clothing. They need officers who actually understand where these kids are coming from. As it is, most officers in big cities are the exact opposite of that; in Oakland, less than 15% of the OPD actually lives in Oakland. Same with SF and though the percentage may be higher in Sacramento considering how spread out the city is, it's probably not that much higher. Do you see the problem with that? Why are suburbanites policing big cities when the majority of them have been raised to be scared to death of the communities they're policing and especially of the people in them?

Also, does anyone really believe that there isn't crime in the suburbs? A lot of why there's less reported crime is because they're being policed by their neighbors... White people - especially kids - in Piedmont, Walnut Creek and etc. get so many slaps on the wrist for drug trafficking, possession, dealing, etc its not even funny, the type of shit that would have my black ass in the back of a squad car. They understand when kids are just being kids in their neighborhoods... Black and brown youth rarely ever get that luxury no matter what city you're talking about. They don't even get that luxury in the suburbs... black kids in the suburbs get the cops called on them for walking around and "looking suspicious" in their own neighborhoods.

I dont need a lesson in white privilege and socioeconomic structure. Ive live in shitty neighborhoods and nice neighborhoods, worked in high rises, and cleaned out dumpsters in Lakeview and Hunter's Point. While I havent lived the life of anyone with dark skin and been subjected to the abuse they may have experienced at the hands of police, I'm not a fool nor am i naive. While I'm lucky enough to have had the life my white skin has afforded me, I also am not spreading any "Cop hatred" that those black/brown kids may already harbor. I'm not the one to blame here nor am I responsible. Saying that those kids NEED the police is also entirely subjective, because needing the police is based on trust. if they dont trust the police, why would they need their help? I dont have anything twisted homie. A lot of the things we feel about societal issues is based on emotion. And while this board is mostly jokes, this is one of the things I take seriously.

breh breh while I aint taking away form the fact that minorities in this country DO get fucked with at a high frequency, do not get it twisted, if you live in the hood it dont matter what color your skin breh, we are all the same lower class piles of shit according to the police, they dont give two fucks about none of that once you step out of the nice zip code.

you aint gotta be mexican or black to get blerped & harassed, beat, set up, house raided with no warrants... all it takes is some tattoos & a pig who fought with his bitch before work.

...not here for an argument tho big guy, just putting a little more truth on your post.

yeah that.

Also, does anyone really believe that there isn't crime in the suburbs?
theres crime in the suburbs but its not as blatant as it is in a "non-suburb". the Piedmont culture aint like the Oakland culture, even though its right there. same with Alameda. some areas its more acceptable to hang on the street and drink 40's and smoke blunts. its more acceptable to yell "fuck the police" when they got someone hemmed up. some areas its more acceptable to kick it in front of the store. some areas citizens wont talk to police after an incident or call police due to not liking the cops. that aint wps. The Ranch in Stockton (Weston Ranch) was built in the 80's/early 90's. it was a nice white suburb. if you lived there back then you said you was from Weston Ranch, not Stockton. the area started having problems in the very early 2000's. people started renting out their homes and renters who didnt really give a fuck started moving in. its a whole different area now. its a ghetto suburb. its even worse now after the housing crash. Stockton was the forclosure capital of america and the ranch was the hardest hit area, by far. rent theres a lot cheaper. and in some cities, cheap rent equals high crime. theres a lot more crime there cus the area is more accepting of it than it was 15 years ago. that area had 3 pop warner football squads. one of them, the Falcons, was in a certain league and got kicked out the league cus cities like Concord, Oakley, Vacaville, Pittsburg, and Tracy didnt like playin in the ranch, or against the ranch kids cus the parents and the ranch were "too ghetto". it aint the kids fault. its the elders who dont give a fuck about their community or how they act. the kids get caught in the middle. thats the fucked up shit right there. the ranch got some nice homes, and some big homes. but you go for a walk, you might fuck around and get robbed. i lived there for a minute a couple years back and there was a lot of gun shots. you wouldnt've heard no gun shots there 15 years ago. 10 years ago you woulda heard a whole lot less. all the white folks keep moving outta there. the ones that stay are the ones thinkin their really going to make a change, like one of the Guardian Angels sets. the blacks and browns aint trippin as much cus in a fucked up way its kind of acceptable, though its obviously not. the cops just had a shoot out this summer at the elementary school in the ranch. dude dumped on the police with an assault rifle. so yeah theres crime in the suburbs, but its different when its a nice white suburb. but thats the peoples faults. teaching the kids that its fuck the police all day dont help them at all and makes matters worse to live in.

if thats tl;dr then i totally understand.

And I still don't get the argument. If they're getting harrassed, isn't it somewhat understandable if they harbor some hatred for the police?
i been harrassed hella times. i got backed into a liquor store freezer door by a faggot ass old grey haired miserable sherrifs deputy when i was 14 years old. then the fuck came to my house and lied to my mom. i been pulled over many times and searched for no reason and got my shit ran through. ive sat on many curbs and been forced to face numerous walls. ive had run ins with the biggest, veiniest, dick cops. but i've also had run ins with cops that werent being dicks and just doing there jobs. so though i can understand if there is some type of hatred if you get/got fucked with, you gotta grow up and realize it aint all cops. and the whole fuck the police mind set that is hella cool to think and say just furthers the hatred with these youngsters for no further reason, other than that notion being constantly expressed.

my sister got in a fight in Nations in Tracy a couple years ago that she didnt start, and the fuck Tracy cop told her to go back to Stockton and tell all her friends to stay in Stockton and out of Tracy. she pretty much hated that cop after that. but my sister also has had to call the cops for a variety of reasons and needed/wanted their help here in town. so yeah, being fucked with by the cops can constitute some hatred, but if you constantly hear fuck the police, and they're your enemy, you wont ever be able to clear your mind and realize the real.

My point is that the biggest difference between a black/brown neighborhood and a white neighborhood is the conviction rate. The Bay Area is one of the top 3 drug markets in the country and suburban whites are the biggest customers, especially when talking about meth and oxy. Why then are there relatively very few white ex-cons in the Bay Area when drug possession is one of the most common charges in the Bay? When you look at who's actually convicted it's blacks and latinos. It's the biggest part of why the hood is the hood... Ex-cons and felons can't get jobs in a market where college grads are applying for the exact same jobs. If there were as many ex-cons in Walnut Creek as there are drug users and dealers there would be a hood in Walnut Creek too. Same with just about any white suburb.
