Looks like Frank Gore is going to the Pro Bowl after all. Steven Jackson had a hip injury and will be replaced by Gore. Matt Maiocco and Adam Schefter both reported this....I say good for him, he got fucked out of it and deserved it.

Chris Foerster O-line coach just got a job with the Redskins doing the same thing. I wonder who the Niners are going to go after for the job....hey maybe Tom Cable since Al's already looking for his replacement, lol.
I really didn't care for Foerster, I mean you're an O-line coach and your line gives up 55 sacks and is ranked 27th in the league (Raiders were #24)...yeah, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Don't blink -- Niners hire Solari to coach O-line

Well, that didn't take long. Mere hours after news broke that the Redskins had hired 49ers offensive line coach Chris Foerster to coach their offensive line, Mike Singletary interviewed and hired Mike Solari to replace Foerster. Solari, 55, should be a familiar name to long-time 49ers followers. He is a Daly City native who coached under legendary 49ers offensive coach Bobb McKittrick in San Francisco from 1992-96.

Singletary said Solari has been his No. 1 choice to run the offensive line ever since Singletary began interviewing for head-coaching jobs. Still, he said that his first inclination was to retain Foerster. In fact, Singletary said today that he initially denied the Redskins' request to interview Foerster. Forester's family, however, is still in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area from the time that Foerster coached with the Ravens. When Foerster asked for the chance to return to the east coast, Singletary said he couldn't deny it. "For me, family is important," Singletary said. "I could not not do that -- give him a chance to be closer to his family." Singletary said he's denied other requests from teams to interview other assistants.

Solari spent the last two seasons in Seattle, and was not retained when Pete Carroll took over the team. Seattle's offensive line struggled last season. The Seahawks gave up 41 sacks, one more than the 49ers. They finished 26th in rushing offense, one slot behind the 49ers. Still, Solari enjoys a strong reputation around the league. He spent nine seasons as Kansas City's offensive line coach, three of them when Jimmy Raye was the Chiefs offensive coordinator. He spent another two seasons as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator. During his tenure in Kansas City, the Chiefs finished in the top 10 in rushing seven times. Singletary singled out those Chiefs offensive lines when explaining why Solari is a good fit with the 49ers.

Solari is the second coach hired this week who has close ties to Raye. Singletary on Monday hired Kurt Schottenheimer, another long-time Chiefs coach, to run the special teams. Schottenheimer and Raye coached together in Washington in 2001.

I really like the Mike Solaris pickup by Singletary, KC had a really good O-line during the time he was there. Our O-line is young and has potential to pancake some fools but need better coaching, LG and RT. We got one....hopefully we can get the 2 others during the draft. BTW, Spiller would be siick!!

Mel Kiper Mock Draft

So I was just looking over Kiper's first mock draft and wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this. I know he's not always right but all he does follow college players and evaluates them for every years draft. I like the thought of taking an OT with one of the two picks but I think we need to get a dynamic player with the second one....possibly a return guy (Spiller).

13. San Francisco 49ers: Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Kiper's give: I consider the right tackle position a big need for the 49ers, and getting Williams here should strengthen them immediately both in the run game and as they look to further develop a potentially dangerous passing game with Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis.

16 or 17. San Francisco 49ers: Earl Thomas, S, Texas

Kiper's give: The 49ers need help in pass coverage, and Thomas fits because he's a great value here, whereas reaching for a CB at No. 16 wouldn't represent good value at all. Thomas isn't a huge guy but can cover a tremendous amount of real estate.

spiller probably wont last long enough for our 2nd pick, according to most mocks anyway. some mocks have said spiller would be a steal at either of our picks.

i'd like to go for a safety and spiller, but i'd be fine with an o-lineman and spiller.

and if we dont take spiller, seattle probably will.

I wouldn't say never....never expected to get Cashtree either. Berry would be sick though. Its interesting how all the mock drafts will never prepare you for the moves that get pulled on draft day and who ends up falling.

true but its a little different than crabtree

berry being a safety is more valuable than a wideout and many teams that pick before us need him

plus crabtree was a diva before the draft so it dropped his stock with teams

berry dropping out of the top 5 would be a shock, but dropping out of the top 10 is probably out of the question
