Yeah I just posted in the gamethread, kick returners are necessary. Use anyone faster than Battle, Robinson or Walker. And yeah if Michael Lewis can't play anymore, I'm not sure what will happen. Cuz Roman sure can't do a damn thing.

Make room for Craptree!!! In his first game, I hope he has an injury and then he's done for the year!!! Already missed too much time. He'll be a headache for Singletary and the Niners!!!

49ers players Ulbrich, Lewis ponder next step after concussions
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/49ers/...ich-lewis-ponder-next-step-after-concussions/

Jeff Ulbrich has no idea how many concussions he’s suffered over the years. Truth be told, he said, “I’m not even sure what a concussion is.”

Ulbrich said he’s heard them characterized as being hit hard enough to see stars. “But every linebacker in the NFL has five or six of those a game,’’ he said.

Also, the 49ers linebacker said the power behind the collisioin could be misleading. Some of his worst concussions over the years have been on hits that look mild while some vicious blows barely registered.

Now, the question becomes: How many hits are too many?

Ulbrich, like strong safety Michael Lewis, is in the process of weighing his next step in football – and in life – after suffering another blow to the head.

The 10-year veteran is scheduled to see a neurologist Wednesday because he is still feeling the effects of a collision during the opening kickoff against the Rams on Oct. 4.

Lewis has suffered three concussions since Aug. 18 and the 49ers said they are monitoring him closely before determining his playing status.

The concussion issue is an increasingly significant topic in the NFL as new studies continue to suggest a link between the game and long-term effects on the brain.

Sheets picked off 49ers practice squad

Running back Kory Sheets, an undrafted rookie from Purdue, said his good-byes in the 49ers locker room this afternoon. The Dolphins signed Sheets off the 49ers practice squad today, he told his now-former teammates.

Sheets said he did not know all of the details of his new opportunity. The Dolphins lost running back Patrick Cobbs to a season-ending knee injury last night. Sheets said he enjoyed his time with the 49ers and wishes things could have worked out.

"I like it here," Sheets said. "The players were cool, the coaches were cool and I put in the work here but unfortunately it's one of those things. It's how the business goes."

The decision to allow Sheets to get away looks a little questionable. The 49ers have just three wide receivers who have caught passes in the first five games of the season. Yet, the 49ers have seven wideouts on their 53-man roster. In the 49ers' run-oriented offense, they have Frank Gore, Glen Coffee, Moran Norris and Michael Robinson on the depth chart at running back.

After Gore's ankle injury, coach Mike Singletary said Sheets was not ready to be activated because he is not yet proficient in blitz pickup. Players on practice squads are, in essence, free agents. They have the right to sign with another team, as long as they're placed on the 53-man roster.

Practice-squad players receive $5,200 a week, while a rookie minimum deal on the 53-man roster pays $18,235 weekly.

Sheets rushed for 177 yards on 39 carries (4.5 average) and three touchdowns in the exhibition season.

Earlier in the day, the 49ers signed Khalif Mitchell (East Carolina) to the practice squad as an offensive lineman. Mitchell went to camp as a nose tackle, and began seeing action on the offensive line late in camp.
