That's what I been saying. For now at least, we are getting the best that both have to offer. I don't know how long they will keep this up, but for right now it is actually one of the best things that's happened for fans in a long time. HBO was doing less with more and vice versa for Showtime. Now Showtime has a bigger budget it seems like and they're going all out and still putting on great fights. HBO seems to be spending less but they are looking for better matchups and not just name fighters.

That's basically what Hershman was doing back when he was with Showtime. Showtime had a smaller budget back then but the Fights of the Year were more often than not on Showtime.

HBO used to be all about showcasing guys and building them up which is why we got like Andre Berto vs Hernandez for $1.5 million on an undercard!

On the flipside, Showtime is now basically all golden boy all the time and since golden boy has such a big and talented roster with no where else to fight the result is stacked cards. Works great!

The downside of course is we won't see fights like Peter Quillin vs Golovkin or Martinez anytime soon

A lot of that has to do with the way they were brought along. Physically, most guys are not going to be in their prime around that age. Obviously everyone is different because of the punishment they take and their training regimen, but that's why they say someone is on the "wrong side of 30"

Yeah well these guys haven't been pro long. Kovalev has been pro for four years. Golovkin 6 years (but got dicked around by his ex shitty promoter) and Rigondeaux only turned pro at age 29 (obviously cus of being in Cuba). So yeah not much wear and tear on these guys. It's funny cus even though Canelo is only 23 years been a pro for almost 9 years.

I always wonder what would've been of some boxers from Mexico if they didn't start so early, but then again, maybe they would've been worse. Erik Morales is still pretty damn young in the grand scheme of things but he's been boxing forever. I think he went pro at 15 or 16 or some crap. Same for Margarito. Hard to imagine Canelo even boxing at 30 at this rate.

I'm really surprised Pac has made it this far. He's been pretty fortunate to have his body hold up this well for this long. He's been in some wars and been undersized for a good portion of his career. He's been in a lot of tough fights. He's probably going to have some serious brain damage I would guess.

Canelo is already at the top of the sport though. He's fighting the p4p best at 23 years old. It's like Vargas, he was a champ super young when he wasn't even fully developed yet. I would be surprised if Canelo gets a lot better from here. He hasn't take a lot of damage from fighting, but if I had to guess, I would guess that his body will start breaking down in the next few years even if he's winning. He's basically going to be starching himself to get down to 154 and I would be a little surprised to see him do well at 160. Probably doesn't have a long career ahead.

Not everyone does. Jake LaMotta took some horrible beatings and he's like 92, he still was doing stand up and running his restaurant well into his 80s, sharp guy. Then you got guys that are punch drunk with less that 20 fights like David Reid. It's weird, just nevet know.

yeah but Vargas fought tough ass opposition at an early age and earned his championship whereas Canelo was given a title for jack shit (beating Matt Hatton who never in his life fought at 154).

Vargas fight 72-2 Yori Boy Campas, Raul Marquez, Winky Wright, Ike Quartey, Trinidad, then Oscar and Mosley (x2). That's a a fucking gauntlet of opponents! Canelo hasn't had that problem. Trout is an OK fighter but he's not a banger, just a tricky style to look good against. Floyd isn't going to put a physical beating on him most likely just a clear decision, then after that you figure he takes a couple softer fights maybe a faded Cotto and the likes, eventually move up to 160 and who knows from there.

It's something to do with the thickness of the skull. Allegedly after a CT scan they found that JC Chavez had an abnormally thick skull which probably helped him absorb a punch. I guess if a dude is born with a great chin/neck it might help in the acceleration/deceleration of the brain somehow after a punch. Who knows. Neurologists don't even fully understand that stuff yet it doesn't seem like.
