Old white guy (pastor) from a church in Florida is have a Burn the Koran Day, since Islam is a religion of evil. Your thoughts?

I was reading some articles online about it, and they said that he has been getting pressure from the Pentagon, and the Military to call off this massive Koran burning, because it will put the lives of Americans domestic and abroad in danger. He has refused to call it off, and will go ahead with his plans..

Don't mind Timm. He's just a retarded troll. I have him on my ignore list because he contributes absolutely nothing to a discussion.

Old ignorant "christians", like this preacher that wants to burn the Quran, are more frightening to me, than some Muslim extremist in a foreign country.

He shouldn't want to burn the Quran.

People shouldn't care if he does burn the Quran.

This whole thing shouldn't be any more news worthy than if some guy was planning a burn A Confederacy of Dunces day...

Steven Weinberg:

“Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion.”

Burning books bothers me. If it was burn a Bible day it would bother me too. I think most people are not bothered that dude is burning books, but rather by what he is trying to say by burning the book.

I'm bothered by both.

I get that, however, the dude is "saying" the same thing whether he does it by burning books or by creating a website. So if the source of conflict was only with what the dude was saying, how he goes about spreading that message is irrelevant.

Would people be this upset if the dude was passing out fliers about why the Quran was bad?

If it's the message and not the medium, then they should be. I don't think they would be.

He's just better at marketing than others. Burning shit gets people's attention. Burning books especially.

See:
Flag burning
Burning effiegies
Etc

Those all get a lot of attention. Sure you could pass our fliers about why the U.S. is bad, but it gets your message more attention if you burn a flag. You could create a website about why you don't like Obama, but if you burn some stuffed doll that looks like him it gets more attention than the website.

I don't believe people are bothered as much by the overt act of burning a flag or a voodo doll, but rather by what the message is.

In general I don't think Jews or Christians are all that bothered by someone using the Koran to wipe their ass, but when you take a whole pile of them and light them on fire as a publicity stunt they get pretty concerned about the can of worms you're opening.
