I have no degree. Went to Community College for 2 years.....probably earned like 20 credits towards GE. I work Data Entry / $45k-$50k per year no including yearly bonuses. Shit all I know is I make more than some college graduates.

My sister has a Masters in International Affairs about to have her PHD. I'm sure she makes great money doing what she doing.

What does the THREAD STARTER do and what DEGREE?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm an Ops/Inventory control specialist, I have an associates in CS but it doesn't apply to anything I'm doing now. I make a little over 45k depending on bonuses. Anyhow I'm trying to get back into school and take advantage of the free 8k per year education benefit from my job.

I have a Managerial Economics degree from UC Davis.

I work for county government and supervise two programs - Records and Surplus. My degree doesn't directly relate, but this position was a way to get my foot in the door...my job is stable, I make good money, have great medical benefits and retirement and all weekends and holidays off.

That's pretty damn good for doing data entry. As for me, no job yet, just started looking and may get an interview soon. I have only about a year experience in customer service and have a BS in business administration (may '07). What is my degree worth? What's a good entry level salary in the south bay with my degree and one year experience?

^^^^WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR PROFESSION? BEING A DRUG DEALER DOES NOT COUNT. SO LETS RULE THAT OUT. IF I HAD TO TAKE A WILD GUESS I WOULD SAY YOU ARE IN THE MORTGAGE BUSINESS. THATS IF YOUR PROFESSION IS LEGIT.

College is overrated.
You only earn the right to call it overrated once you've been there and done that. I agree its overrated, I'll earn my way with hard work, no degree is going to make me a better employee than anyone else, I will, my work ethic will. But having the degree sure will make a better path for me, so overrated yes, but worth it also...

I got a degree in Business - Management, and I work as a P & C Underwriter for an Insurance company. Degree didn't have shit to do with what I am doing now....Oh yea, except get my foot in the door cause a Bachelor's was REQUIRED! I am not saying you can't be successful in life, or not make any $ without a degree. What I am saying, is stats show people with degrees make/will make more $ than those without. Most jobs are requiring a degree to even get an interview. For those making good a good hr. rate and laughing about not having a degree, what are you gonna do when you hit the ceiling pay wise, and every other job you look at wants a college degree? Will you be laughing then? It is bullshit that companies look for college degrees, but it is what it is. Shit, all the jobs I want require MBA's, so I am in Kaplan classes preparing for my GMAT, then will enroll in school for my MBA next fal probably.

In any case, I make 50 K right now, and it is fucking pennies. In order for me to secure a 6 figure job by my early 30's, and set myself up to be in upper management by 40 making 200K a year, education is required. I suggest everyone step their education game up, a college degree is becoming what a HS degree was 20 years ago.
