Why don't the Yay have a mixtape scene like the East and the South do?

why cant u support the artist by buyin his album? thats support. these guys, they're trying to live off this one album they push. they're not on mtv trying to push an album so they can buy a new pool. local full albums get as much push, if not more, than mixtapes.
THEY GET HEARD on things like mixtapes

mixtapes should be no more then $7 dollar if independent...

and you won't gain fans if a "mixtape" is all one person, its basiclly an album then

i think people are just taking the name "mixtape" cause it sounds cool

MeloTrauma, i'd like to be one of the people to try and establish it... besides myself, Dj Mark 7, and Mad Idiots (they need to promote more Bay on there tapes, its all east coast) there not much out here... My next tape will be tight ass hell though!!! i'm trying to out due my tape i just released "Este Oeste" Latino HipHop Mixtape... But i've been confirming, Freestyles from some big names, some unreleased, and soon to be released singles for rappers... and i'ma lace around that, with some hidden talent within the Bay Area!

check this out .my shit is a freestylle mixtape wit me so why should i need a dj i can host the shit myself.im the first in the first one in the bay to put it out like that so respect it and quit hatin.i got vol 2 comin next week, vol 3 wit killa keise in a month.im droppin em every mont.i got muthafuckas droppin drops and shit so imma step it up .now every body about to drop freestyle mixtapes just cause i did mines.just watch how sick this shit get.just like compilations.and the shit i spit on my freestyles will never be used again.im not into recycling shit.

Mixtapes are cool, they get unknown artists heard...I think it would be great if we had bay area mix tapes...it would give us a chance to check out new talent...like DJ Mark 7's mixes are tight and you get to be open to new talent out there..sometimes without that exposure a artist may never be recognized..nowdays people aren't gonna drop cash on a cd for some artist they never heard of...money's tight these days and the quality of bay music hasn't been up to par lately cept the few hard working artists trying to put good shit out....mixtapes are a good idea and jus another outlet for a artist to get exposure...jus my 2 cents...

Cell Ski no disrespect your a good artist and everything, but Mixtapes where around way before your career started, and will be here way after your career ends...

do ya thing, make ya money, but "freestyle mixtapes" been out since i can remember, but if you start the trend for rappers here in the Bay cool... but where did you get the idea? If you say you thought of it all on your own fine BUT East Coast has hella of em' everywhere, so you arn't nearly the first generally speaking, and Bay Area has a huge HipHop scene, under this gangsta hustle scene this board talks about that does that style stuff for days

BUT we're not talking about your style mixtapes, personally i don't concider your album as a mixtape, its just album freestyled, get a DJ cut up tracks continous no pauses track through tracks... then i believe you'll be in business

everybody know i got the idea from lil flip .he got like 12 of em .they doin it in the south and in the east,so i decided to do one cause no body out here has did one.im aint sayin i started that shit duh,im sayin im the first bay artists wit one.we lackin so i did a freestlyle mixtape to get some reconition and show muthafuckas we can bust over they shit, then they can see that we can bust over timbos, trackmasters, neptunes better than the original song.i was wit benzino for 3 days and he loved my shit so much he droppin a song on his dj mixtape out on the east.my nigga huddy from harlem on hella mixtapes in the easthe puttin me on and i get exclusive intrumentals,

The reason the East Coast has mixtapes is because they're more about lyrics; we're not. All we'd have are tight beats with lyrics a ninth grader could think up.
Also, I don't really appreciate some person yelling over the beats. The only way it would would work out for me is a mixtape with artists who are lyrical rapping over pounding beats that follows the Dogg Pound's first album's format. Just imagine it.

i totally disagree, they are many cats in the bay that focus on lyrics.

A-WAX : i feel u but in all honesty who is gonna buy a mix tape buy a specific artist that all u hear is that artist, i'll tell u 2 people: 1) fans they already have 2) people that get a chance to hear it and go buy it.

the reason clue and them mix cd's sell is cus u gettin the hottest new shit in NY, shit that ain't even out yet that will be big in a month or so, not jus one rapper rappin over a gang of beats!!!

i think artists would be better off freestylin on mix cd's with jay-z, m&m, etc. (whatevers hot) because then people who may not be ur fans but are fans of main stream shit get to hear u BUSTIN and they may become ur fans now.

one thing cellski did is hit up shows and hand out his mix cd's this is smart because now u are giving the fans of (main stream artists) ur music which in turn equals new fans for cellski.

Balance u mentioned Bay DJs true...But BAY MIXTAPES are different...Those cats all support the Bay but their tapes have MAYBE one or two Bay cuts and the rest is East Coast or LA shit...There is NOTHING wrong with that. I make those tapes too...But please believe that I'm the ONLY cat at the moment (that I'm aware of) throwin BAY ONLY tapes and indie cats from out here who don't even know how to get in TOUCH with Mind Motion lol...I ain't askin for applause or nuthin just statin facts...I make myself accessible to EVERYONE and won't just throw on a San Quinn or Too Short...I'll throw in an A-Wax or Balance just as quick! I hope more people follow suit but I haven't seen much effort so far. I really could care less tho cause I'ma keep doin my thing...Been DJin now for 11 years doggie and ALWAYS been loyal to the Bay.

And as for what Cellski is doin, it's as MUCH a mixtape as what I do with the blendin an scratchin...They are exclusive joints with freestyles and known beats...Tapes like that are HUGE! Hell DJ Clue an Tony Touch are mixtape KINGS and barely 40% if THAT of their tapes are blended or scratched...But they have street credibility and cats like Jay Z will go to them with DATS straight out the studio to put on their tapes...They put exclusive shit on which makes it just as much of a mixtape.

Sorry for ramblin on people...I just love topics like this! lol
