Why don't the Yay have a mixtape scene like the East and the South do?

The artists in the Yay need to start doing this. I think alot of dudes would benifit from this. I mean I seen a few here and there, but its not nearly as prominant as it is in other areas. I guess we be doing kinda of the same thing, except we call them compilations. All I know is my cousin in NY be havin a grip of mixtapes that he buys from the corner store or from a dude on the street. The East and South are on top of that mixtape scene...We need that kind of circulation for the Yay to blow up.

Cellski has a mixtape out and it's pretty coo. It's worth picking up...But I agree the Bay needs to get more involved in the mixtape scene.

Imagine a mixtape with

Mac Dre
Yukmouth
E-40
Mac Mall
Ray Luv
The Mob Figaz
San Quinn
etc.

That would be tight as fuck..

ESTE OESTE, it'll be in all stores in a few weeks, but i have copys for 7 bucks if anyones intrested... i'll keep everyone posted on the next project

I dont think theres a lot of DJs helping the cause...

I also dont think its big because a lot of artists are about their scratch and their hustle and wanna sell mix cds for the same price as a regular cd. If they would be willing to sell their cds much cheaper like $7 they would be sacrificing a few songs for building a larger fan base.

On the East Coast and in the South, I think the competition keeps the prices of mix tapes and cds low, because there are so many different types, none will go for more than $7 at least from what Ive seen from NY mix cds out here at Amoeba and when I went to Florida.

there doesnt need to be a mixtape scene...a lotta peeps on the east and the south need to be seen, and the only way for them to do it is to be put on like, "DJ Clue's Extreme Mixtape Vol. 16" and one guy will have one verse on a snippet of a song, and everyones like "ohhh, this guy is off da hook!" This is the "Independent Bay" wit each rap artist pushin their own cds. they dont need to be on a mixtape. And Cellskis mixtape has him and like, Baldhead and Killa Keise. it doesnt feature any up-and-coming artists

On a typical day in NYC, you can catch two mixtapes for a Lincoln. It's a definate positive for the music scene.

That is why the bay area isn't getting exposure, a lot of eastcoast artists get there start on mixtapes, some get deals and gain new fans from them. Mixtapes give artists exposure and a lot of bay artists could use that.

most of thos mixtapes got freestyles on them an you really dont hear bay rapers freestyleing that much. dident 40 coin the fraise paystyle I think that kinda set the tone for the bay.but I would like to see bay mixtapes start crackin it would give the rappers a chance to drop something inbetween albums.

Most of those "freestyles" on eastcoast mixtapes are not really freestyles, they are just written verses that are usually spit over a popular songs instrumental.

I make mixtapes because I enjoy doin it...and to me a compilation an mixtape are like apples an oranges...Mixes have cuttin, blendin etc..Hell the Bay mixes I make I give for free! Believe me it ain't for the money...

Another reason it ain't prominent is because ig'nant ass artists think I'm bootlegging their shit...They don't get the idea of mixtapes...It's the best promotion u could hope for! Cause God KNOWS u aint gettin radio airplay...alos it's a lack of DJs in the Bay that SUPPORT BAY SHIT

I'ma keep doin my thang tho...don't trip!
