I tip what I can depending on the service..definitely dont feel obligated....

If they feel the need not to service me next time then that is fine with me..there are plenty of other restaurants that will take my money. Also, im sure their boss would be more upset with them running off a paying customer because they received $2.00 instead of the $5.00 they assumed they were worth... If your only skills in life is fetching mf's drinks for $3.00 in wages then you're already doomed...just sayin...

I WORKED AS A BOUNCER AT A BAR...

AND I LEARNED IF YOU AT LEAST TIP THE BARTENDER NICE THE FIRST TIME THEY SERVE YOU...THEY'LL LOOK OUT FOR YOU THE REST OF THE NIGHT OR AT LEAST GIVE YOU SOME COURTESY...

AT LEAST THATS MY EXPERIENCE

i wouldnt consider it extortion, but more of a respect thing. waiters/waitresses/servers only make minimum wage. so their main means to make money is tips. So yes if i do receive moderate to great service i will tip. These people are bringing us food and drinks and some more shit.
I do customer service, i work in a call center. and i get paid great. but i rather be in a call center than be a server. thats hard work right there imo.

It makes me fucking nuts when people like Filthy Rich say shit like "waiters extort". Without tipping your server the restaurant industry fails. If you don't want to tip, don't go out to a restaurant, there's plenty of McDonald's around for you to cop a value meal.
You guys all took me out of context. It's extortion when, if you don't tip, the waiter fucks with your food.

I eat in restaurants every night which I can almost guarantee is more than everyone in this thread and I always tip. Not truck stops and nationwide chains either. I'm just saying, I don't think waiters are the great saints we make them out to be. On average they do an average job of carrying food and drinks from one end of the room to the other in a timely manner while maintaining an appealing attitude. When it's busy I know it becomes more challenging, like any job, and it usually shows in the service. I just don't think the work itself justifies a tip. Some of you are making it into a charity case for poor people with low paying jobs. Do what you want but I think the tradition of tipping for every meal in a restaurant is outdated. I still do it but I wouldn't have a problem not doing it if that was the societal norm.

Also, if you're working for $2.50 per hour and you absolutely rely on the generosity of others to get by, you probably made some poor decisions in life that lead you there.

I tip when I see the service is on point and they come and check on my needs constantly ..

If I don't see them doing any of that, I tell them at the end that they're not getting a good tip because of their poor service ..

For someone that gives me that great service I'll leave between 15-20 dollars, but poor service gets minimum from me..that's like 3 to 5 dollars...

I tip when I got to bars or resteraunts. But the tip is predicated on the quality of service that I receive. If the server/waiter/bartender gives shitty service then they re going to get a shitty tip. Like in grammer school, everyones starts with an "A" that can either stay an A or decrease based on the service I get. If the waiter is on point, quick with refills on drinks, explains the daily specials, small talk, polite, attentive and they bring my food out at a reasonable time. Them I'm givin them a good tip. Its that simple
