Let Me In

I am conflicted about this movie. On one hand I feel like this is probably the best we can expect from an adapted foreign film for American audiences. On the other hand I feel they made changes that really weren’t needed and in doing so changed the nature of the movie entirely.

I feel like there was un-needed gore added in an attempt to make this more of a horror movie. I felt they undermined the film by focusing too much on the horror aspect instead of the friendship/romance between the main characters. I think the young male character suffered specifically from this. In the Sweedish film his life was explored much more thoroughly and developed to the point where we could understand why his relationship with the girl became so important.

I expected Chloë Moretz (the girl) to shine in this, but was let down. I think this is because she wasn’t really given any room to do much with the character. Instead I thought Kodi Smit-McPhee (the boy) exceeded my expectations and did a lot with the character despite it being chopped down in the Americanized version.

I have a hard time recommending this movie because I think it deviated so much from the original and became something entirely different. Something different that, to me, wasn’t appealing. But, if for some reason you can’t stand foreign subtitled movies I’d say check this out. But if you don’t mind the subtitles I would say watch the original.

I watched this movie last night and you make some solid points. But for some reason, I enjoyed this version better than the original. Rarely if ever have I said that.

Love that movie. Hilarious, great editing, cool concept.

Haters gon hate.
my girlfriend questioned my taste in movies (and probably my manhood) after watching that film because I insisted it was going to be good (after a bunch of people on the sicc kept recommending that piece of trash movie, thanks tony206!). And she likes some pretty gay chick flicks. If its too gay for a girl it's definitely whack!
I think it also helps to see it in theaters for the visual effects, or at least have a 50" flat screen.

I wanted to rate this movie a 10/10 but I feel I'd be doing an injustice to Stand By Me and The Goonies. And usually I don't let other films dictate the rating of another, but because they are similar in regards to being a "kids coming of age" movie (not sure if this actually qualifies as such), I felt that this was an exception. It just wasnt on the same level. So maybe 9/10, possibly 9.5/10.

Anyways I threw my back out this morning so I have today and probably tomorrow off. Loaded up on pain-killers and plan on watching a ton of movies. Probably get to Let Me In and that Scott Pilgrim movie (even thoigh it doesn't really look good).

You're probably right. I'm sure the nostalgia of the other two movies has much to do with why I think they are on different levels. Either way I love watching movies like that.

I really enjoyed this movie, especially the latter half of it. The story was fucking awesome and the acting was great all across the board. I never saw the original or read the book, so there is nothing for me to compare it to, but this movie was just awesome. I did read the comments CB made towards the film, and I believe that had they focused more on their relationship the movie would have been much better. Other than that I commend those who adapted this movie in doing a great job.

8.5/10

**SPOILER**

I know it was pretty obvious, but just to clarify, the older man that melted his face off was her "boyfriend", and not her father, correct? As implied through the picture of her with the younger kid w/ glasses on, and the fact that he had to choke his victims to drain their blood. Great little underlying theme that was.

Get Low

This was billed on the netflix sleeve as a "Dark Comedy". I didn't find it all that dark and certainly would not call it comedy. There really isn't much to say about this movie. They took some good actors and put them in a semi-dramatic film and they phoned it in. I thought it had a good look to it, but over all I was left totally unimpressed by this movie. I really wasn't very entertained and I can't see myself recommending it to anyone; certainly not siccness members. 1 out of 5

The Other Guys

Well this sure was bad. Probably the worst Will Ferrell movie yet. Marky Mark was terrible. Unfunny gags. Unfunny gags that they keep doing over and over and over. It is like a bad SNL sketch, but instead of being 5 mintues too long this is over an hour too long. Got around half way through and never restarted it. 0 out of 5
