I think something all of you failed to mention is that most of those cats spend like crazy the minute they sign their deals... Buying a 100,00 $ chain and a Bentley (because, if you don't have them, then people might think you're wack...) can empty your pockets real quickly - especially since most artists don't make money from record sales...

New signed rappers need to be smarter with their money, that's all. Signing a major deal can make you very rich, just don't get silly with all the money.

SMMWEST I APPRECIATE YOUR INSIGHT ON THIS TOPIC AND IT'S PRETTY INFORMING..

I WAS FLIPPING THRU MURDER DOG TODAY AND I WAS GLAD I SAW ADS PROMOTING A FEW BAY ARTIST ALBUMS AND THEM AS WHOLE LIKE J-STALIN, KEAK, BEEDA WEEDA, C-BO[SAC], AND SHIT EVEN BERNER HAHA..

SHIIT I EVEN SAW A SIDE AD OF LIL PIGG PEN. IT SHOWS THEY DOING THEY THING IN HELPING THEIR BUZZ AND PROMOTING THEMSELVES..

IMO, THERE AINT NOTHING WRONG WITH WORKING A DAY JOB N SHYT AND USING THAT MONEY TO HELP PROMOTE YASELF.. YOU JUST GOTTA BE PATIENT N SHYT BOUT THINGS LIKE THAT.

I DO GOT A PERSONAL Q FOR YOU, WHEN U MENTIONED BOUT HOW INDIE ARTISTS SHOULD BOOK THEY OWN SHOWS N SHYT INTERNATIONALLY, HOW CAN THEY[ARTIST] SEE HOW THEIR MUSIC IS DOING OVERSEAS IN THE 1ST PLACE? NOT A LOT OF THEM GOT ACCESS AND HOOKS TO A LOT OF DJ'S N SHYT. U GOT CONTACTS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT?
I like this post. And as for the personal question. You can use the search engines to find Record Stores overseas, to succeed you have to put in the leg work, you can't rely on anyone to hand you the contacts that they have worked so hard to get. The information is out there. You just have to find the stores online and contact them via E-Mail asking them if they have your product? If so how is it doing? If not if they would like to carry it? And tell them how and where they can get it. Same thing with overseas clubs. Ask them if they know of you? And if so you would like to book a Venue.

I just had a my very first child born August 17th so I am really short on time these days, but I am going to write a book later this year and I will have all of my contact information within it. Stores (States and Overseas), Distributors (States and Overseas), Magazines, Lawyers, Booking Agents, everything.

A Deal =More bitches on yo line.Thats why niggas want deals.

Thats why muh fuckas will never make it. If you are doing music to try and increase your sex life or get famous you will go no where. Getting a deal is a choice when you know you have good music.

Fame is nothing, I would just want an honest living and get paid handomsely for it, but thats only for producers. Rappers have a fucked up part, they gotta pay back the budget they spent before they see any profit from record sales.

The record companies can hold anything as collateral if you dont pay the budget back, so you better be raw and really not too many artists out here can hold water like that

The record business is Dirty, unfair and fucked just like it has always been. As glamourous as it may look, its a cruel world. You must be sublime or you will die quickly and it will be damn enar impossible to gain a name back after losing a buzz.

Know your facts people!

AND STOP PAYING FOR MAGAZINE PROMOTION AND ALL THAT OTHER BULLSHIT BECAUSE HARDLY ANYONE READS ANYMORE! IF YOU ARE RAW THEY WILL COME TO YOU AND PAY YOU FOR THE PLEASURE OF GETTING IN THE MAGAZINE. ITS ALL BACKWARDS. IF YOU ARE TRULY THE SHIT YOU WONT HAVE TO PAY ANYONE PERIOD! MAKE THEM PAY YOU, AND DONT EVER MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOU NEED THEM MORE THAN THEY NEED YOU. TRUST ME!

Oh yeah 7 cents can be alot you just cant multiply.

Go 7 cents times 1,000,000 records sold and it equals $70,000

Then you get 9 cents per radio play. and if you are on 3,000 stations getting played 5 times a day youll get $13,500 a day. Multiply that by 60 days and see how much is being made in 2 months from doing nothing.

youll get over $800,000

If you have a hit song you should be making almost a million. Everything comes in pennies in the music business. Know your shit people!

99% of rappers want to be reckognized.

I think artists hold a major deal as an acomplishment, bein recognized by people with a standing in the music buisness!?
that is their accomplishment. show me an artist with something to REALLY SAY nowadays? to me, thats the obvious reason for the state of hip-hop. in it for all the wrong reasons. get your money, im not knocking that, but who is nowadays? like swerve beats said, the math is simple. most cant count more than $1000 anyway so this is a foreign language, i know. a deal can be beneficial to an intelligent individual, or just a lucky, talented muthafucka.

I have seen a lot of BAY AREA rap artists on siccness.net whom are searching for Record Contracts. I just wonder why?

Is it to have Radio Rotation around the country of which your label is just going to hire a Radio Promoter for $20,000 and charge that back to your account as $50,000

Is it to film a Video at $250,000 and have it shopped to B.E.T and MTV. And have 50% of that Video Budget recouped from your account?

Is it to have Magazine Ads placed in the Source, XXL, and Murder Dog for an entire year straight?

Is it to be put on a Promotional Tour of which you are not allowed to sell your Cds or Merchandise and the Label recoups the entire cost of the Promo Tour from your Budget?

Is it for an image?

Is it to be in debt?

I recently met a GOSPEL artist who "HIRED ME TO HANDLE HIS MEDIA" and while meeting with this artist I got to see him do his Day Job. This artist shines shoes. He has shinned shoes his entire life. He has raised his Family off of shinning shoes and supported his Wife off of shinning shoes.
In the first 25 Minutes of meeting with this artist I saw him do 2 $25 shoe shines and a $10 shoe shine. He also sells his GOSPEL singles for $7 a piece and sold 1 to each of the people I saw him do a shoe shinning for. So in the first 25 minutes of meeting this man he put $81 in his pocket.

I learned something from this as a Grown Man and as an Artist/Label Owner (as such I don't care what this man does as a living and was proud of him as a man). 1. You can sell anything. 2. You have to have a Niche'/Target Market and "KNOW" that Market 3. To be successful you have to Work Hard. 4. You never need any Machine behind you, you can do it by yourself. 5. It was time along time ago to completely die to self and shut out the outside world (those whom read the bible know what I am talking about).

Check Out this guys cd single. Proof you can sell anything to your Niche'/Target Market. Without need to go outside of it:
