wrestling is simultaneously one of the most effective & most boring disciplines in MMA.
I like wrestling, I even like watching High School and college wrestling, but there is times where LnP is used and that can be boring. I mean real LnP, I mean literally laying on a guy and not trying to to damage, not trying to go for subs, and not trying to advance your position, when all that is done, it can get boring and just laying on someone is not wrestling.

So because he purely wrestles (which can be argued, he still threw and landed some good punches on Rampage) in one match you think hes gonna permanently fight like that for the rest of his life and abandon his boxing skills?

Fucking idiots...
I love how you assume to know my thought process and still get it all wrong.

Maybe it's because he:

a) Is a greg jackson fighter, which means he'll set up a gameplan to use his strength (wrestling)

b) Shogun is a better striker than Rashad, and Rashad isn't going to stand and bang with Shogun

But, you know... you just keep thinking you understand what the fuck is going on.

LOL.... I think Rashad is always going to come with the same gameplan.... ROFL.... fucking idiot.

Rashad is a great striker, if there comes a situation where he is forced into a striking situation he will use it. His ground game also sucks, it would be impossible for him to stay on the ground for an entire fight unless he has been training relentlessly on the ground.

You will see some boxing from both sides in this fight watch..

I think we need to all start ignoring Retribution, it's quite obvious he knows shit about MMA. Rashad had some luck with Striking and created some good highlights but he is far from a great striker and I like Rashad and hope he wins, but lets not get stupid here.

His ground game sucks?
Let's be more specific, his JJ is not great but his wrestling is very good that is how he won most of his earlier matches and let's also not forget that he outwrestled HW's at the time when he won the Ultimate Fighter, before making the drop to LHW.

I threw down a $20 bet on Shogun tonight with my friend that's a casual fan and thinks Bones is going to be the GOAT.

I hope he's wrong.
it's not just the casual fans thinking this about this kid. i think bones is gonna win it. he's so damn tall and very very good at taking people down and keeping them there. i'm more a fan of shogun so i'll be routing for him but i think jones is gonna smash. has jones chin ever been tested?? maybe thats the xfactor

What, if anything, is it about Jones that leads any of you to believe he'll lose this fight? I understand Rua is the better fighter, and for that matter I too believe he should win, but with the injury/recovery and having not fought in almost a year, I don't think it's so cut and dry. Is it simply what Rua is capable of or something Jones is lacking? Maybe both?

Oh yeah I understand all that. I just thought maybe some of you had subjective reasoning behind your prediction. Like something about the way each one fights. Shogun clearly has the better credentials and should win the fight.

IMO Jones is a bad match up for Shogun. Wouldn't be surprised to see a classic Greg Jackson gameplan for this fight(ie get fight to the ground, do NOT pass guard, etc.) Either way this is going to be a great fight. Hopefully Shogun's layoff won't hinder him too much.

Yoshihiro Akiyama out at UFC 128; Dan Miller now faces Nate Marquardt

With portions of his home country in ruin from this week's tragic earthquake, Yoshihiro Akiyama has withdrawn from next week's UFC 128 event.

In his place steps New Jersey native Dan Miller (14-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC), who had been expected to fight on the evening's preliminary card but will now fight Nate Marquardt (30-10-2 MMA, 9-4 UFC).

UFC executives announced the change late Friday night.

"New Jersey native Dan Miller proves once again that he will fight anyone, anywhere, any time by agreeing to step up from the prelims to face Nate Marquardt," UFC president Dana White stated in an official release. "Marquardt has long been a top-10 ranked middleweight, and Miller jumped at the opportunity to face him."

UFC 128 takes place March 19 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and features a light heavyweight title match between champ Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and challenger Jon Jones.

White and UFC exec Marshall Zelaznik each took to Twitter to ensure fans Akiyama and his family were not injured in the tragedy, but it's unknown when he'll return to action.

Marquardt fights for the first time since a November loss to Yushin Okami that cost him a guaranteed shot at the title. Prior to the decision defeat, Marquardt went 5-2 in his seven fights since an unsuccessful bid to take champ Anderson Silva's title in 2007. He also lost a No. 1 contender's bout three fights ago to Chael Sonnen at UFC 109.

Miller is building steam after three consecutive losses put his octagon career in jeopardy. The older brother of UFC lightweight Jim Miller most recently dispatched Joe Doerksen by split decision at UFC 124, which followed a submission victory over Salter at UFC 118.

UFC brass did not announce if they will seek a replacement opponent for Catone.
