The mediator who worked to strike a deal between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao today attempted to set the record straight as to why negotiations fell apart and why Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, is saying the fight is off.
Mediator Daniel Weinstein, a retired federal judge who listened to the Pacquiao and Mayweather representatives all day Tuesday and continued talks Wednesday, said in a statement released by Mayweather's promoters that the fight unraveled because "the parties could not agree on a testing protocol acceptable to all."
A statement by Mayweather is expected shortly, but Weinstein also noted in his statement that he wanted to correct some "erroneous" news reports of why the talks crashed.
Arum said Wednesday night that Mayweather ultimately didn't want to risk losing, with another source close to the negotiation's saying Pacquiao conceded to allow a blood test 24 days before the fight -- he previously would allow a blood draw only 30 days before the bout -- and sought an apology from Mayweather's team for implying the Filipino star has used performance-enhancing drugs.
Weinstein did not address specifics but made these points testifying to Mayweather's cooperativeness:
-- Both parties participated in the mediation in good faith. Both parties participated in many hours of negotiation, with a number of proposals issued by each side and carefully considered by the parties and their representatives."
-- The mediator himself did not formulate, recommend or issue a mediator's proposal. The mediator did not make an evaluation or finding that any one of the many proposals considered by the parties was the correct protocol.
-- Any attempt to characterize the mediation process as an acceptance or rejection by any of the parties of a mediator's or an arbiter's proposal or of any specific proposal is false.
Weinstein also scolded comments like those by Arum as "violations of the strict confidentiality to which the parties and their representatives*agreed and which they authorized the mediator to enforce."
A person close to the negotiations*told The Times today that Pacquiao's agreement to allow a blood draw 24 days before the fight fell short of the Mayweather camp's desire for Pacquiao to be tested 14 days before the super-fight that was scheduled for March 13 in Las Vegas.
-- Lance Pugmire

How can Mayweather be accused of ducking and dodging when Mayweather was the one that agreed to the terms of the contract, while Manny and Top Rank made up 5 different stories about why Manny can't agree to random testing with a 14-day cut off.

Manny's terms:
$10 million for every pound Mayweather was over 147lb, glove size, and ring size. Mayweather agreed to all terms.
Mayweather terms:
Random drug testing with a 14 day cut-off window. Manny walked away from the fight.

Now Manny fans stop lying about Pac-man agreeing to random testing with a 14 day cut-off window. I believe the Mediator Daniel Weinstein, when he said that Manny did not agree to testing with a 14 day cut-off. There was no third party mediator for the other two fake ass negotiation that Top Rank wants you guys to beleive happened. Now all you dick riding Manny fans STOP LYING about Manny agreeing to random testing. When you can show me proof of a third party mediator saying Manny agreed to random drug testing then I will shut up. The truth hurts but Manny don't want to submit to random testing. Could it be that he has something to hide??? I'll be waiting on the Manny fans excuses..

^^you leave out the fact that Floyd decided the date of the fight and venue (a date that pac didn't want), pacquiao agreed to ALL TERMS and everything was ready to go. Then, after everything was agreed upon that's when floyd came up with the drug testing. This was after both sides had agreed to everything. You can even check the forum I had made an "official pac vs mayweather" thread because it was just about a done deal and I don't make official threads unless it's not close to being done. ESPN had reported the fight being a done deal and it was on.

At first team pac flat out turned down any extra testing out of disrespect, floyd said the fight wouldn't happen, so team pac said they would do three tests (one at press conference, one in the beginning of camp, and one in the middle, floyd rejected. Then Pac said ok, totaly random with but within 30 days of the fight no more . Floyd rejected. That's when they had the mediation and they couldn't agree on the cutoff (floyd wanted 14, pac wanted 21 or whatever it was), then it failed. This was over a period of months, so it wasn't like it just ended quickly. Floyd never mentioned drug testing until pac agreed to all terms. Both parties went on to fight other opponents because they wouldn't agree.

After their fights, Pac said ok, screw it I'll do the 14 day cutoff if that's the only way to get floyd in the ring, Floyd responded with "I'm on vacation, I'm not thinking about boxing right now." Pac fights on. After which pac says "I'll take any test to make the fight happen." Floyd was still not thinking about boxing. Pac signs to fight Marquez and weeks later suddenly floyd is back in boxing and is now scheduled to fight Ortiz.

So fine, you can blame pac for the first negotiations if you want to, I don't care, but don't act as if Floyd didn't have two other times to sign a fight and didn't want anything to do with pacquiao or boxing.

Again show me some proof that Manny agreed to even a 14-day cutoff window? Your only proof is that Top Rank said Manny agreed to the terms. Face facts Manny don't want to submit to random testing. Manny fans are too damn dumb to understand that Manny is the reason the fight ain't happening. I'm just sick of Manny fans and Top Rank lying about trying to make the fight. Manny is ducking and dodging random testing and Mayweather..

Again stop lying Manny didn't agree to shit.. Lying ass Manny fans.. SMH

In his first public statements since the fallout from the alleged failed negotiations of Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao, HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg acknowledged that he acted as a mediator between Mayweather's handlers and those of Pacquiao's from Top Rank Promotions in an effort to bring their highly-anticipated fight to fruition.

Bob Arum, Top Rank Promotions' CEO, told reporters on July 16 that he had been negotiating with Mayweather's manager, Al Haymon, with Greenburg acting as the mediator. Golden Boy Promotions' president, Oscar De La Hoya, and Mayweather's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, recently denied that negotiations took place.

In his statement e-mailed through his public relations department, Greenburg did not name Haymon or Arum, although he corroborated Arum's assertion.

"Fights like Mayweather vs. Pacquiao are significant because of these fighters' ability to connect with sports fans around the world," said Greenburg. "It's unfortunate that it won't happen in 2010,"

"I had been negotiating with a representative from each side since May 2nd, carefully trying to put the fight together," said Greenburg. "Hopefully, someday this fight will happen. Sports fans deserve it."

Golden Boy Promotions' CEO, Richard Schaefer, disputed Ross's claims.

"The only thing that I can say is that I stand behind my previous statement which is that I am not aware of any negotiations having taken place. I don't know where that statement from Ross is coming from. He didn't negotiate with me, and I have a very close relationship with Leonard Ellerbe and with Al Haymon, and I'm not aware that either one of them had held negotiations with Ross Greenburg," said Schaefer, whose company has promoted Mayweather's past two victories over Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley.

"It must have been quite a negotiation for Bob Arum to issue a statement that the fight was done, and that the members of Team Mayweather, whomever Ross was supposed to be negotiating with, were okay with the terms on the table, and that the deal was simply awaiting Floyd Mayweather's signature," said Schaefer.

"That must have been something that he had heard from Ross," said Schaefer. "So I would be anxious to know who Ross was negotiating those terms with and who gave Ross the indication that any potential terms on the table were acceptable to Mayweather, because I'm sure that Bob wouldn't say those things unless he was told them by Ross."

Not long after Arum's conference call, Ellerbe released a statement denying the negotiations ever took place.

"Here are the facts. Al Haymon, Richard Schaefer and myself speak to each other on a regular basis, and the truth is no negotiations have ever taken place," stated Ellerbe. "Nor was there ever a deal agreed upon by Team Mayweather or Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 13. Either Ross Greenburg or Bob Arum is not telling the truth, but history tells us who is lying."

Arum responded by calling Ellerbe's statements, "preposterous," and, "totally bizarre," adding, "it's almost like dealing with people who have lost their minds."

Arum could not be reached for comment.

"Bob Arum is probably upset because he has no control over anything that Floyd does, so I stand behind the statement that I gave last week 100 percent, and I pay absolutely no attention to Arum attempting to attack me personally by calling me crazy," said Ellerbe of Arum, who once promoted Mayweather.

"Call me crazy if you want to, but I deal with the facts. And these are the facts: Floyd Mayweather has become the biggest star in the sport, and has made over $120 million since he left Arum. So if that makes me crazy, then, so be it."

lol shuttin down? I could post article after article if I wanted to but been there done that and wasted hours and hours, this shit is embedded in my brain. There are about half a dozen threads at least about this same old debate and I did my share of schooling. If you call posting an article quoting Richard Schaefer shuttin down so be it, he wasn't even apart of the 2nd negotiations his words are invalid and biased obviously. He's also the one that said "floyd isn't going to fight pacquiao now because it would be a disrespect the court systems, that would be outrageous" and of course floyd is fighting with several court cases coming up, including a couple felony charges. He's also the one who said Golden Boy would lead the way in "cleaning up the sport" with drug testing, yet Floyd is the only fighter to do these PED testing and literally they've had hundreds of fighters fight without any extra testing. Richard Schaefer is just as credible as Bob Arum.

I'm asking you to show me proof that Manny agreed to random drug testing with a 14-day cutoff window. You can't show any proof of Manny agreeing to those terms, other then Top Rank saying he agreed to them. You said Greenburg said Manny agreed to the terms and I just showed you proof again that Manny didn't agree to anything. Don't get mad at me for telling the truth and showing you proof. Where are all the other lying ass Manny dickriding fans that co-sign all of Top Rank lies? Manny did not agree to random testing with a 14-day cutoff window and that's a FACT.. Now who is ducking who???

wtf more proof do you want? Pacquiao announces he agrees to the 14 day cutoff to the world, says let's fight to mayweather. Top Rank tries to negotiate with Floyd and floyd was missing in action for months. They get Ross Greenberg to mediate the negotiations, and floyd doesn't respond. Top Rank even had that "count down" for one 14 days saying all floyd has to do is contact us and the fight is made. What does floyd do? No one hears from him until after the deadline. Top rank then says again, we'll postpone the deadline for 1 week, nothing from floyd. He didn't come out publically and say a single word. Are you kidding me? If floyd wanted to fight, don't you think he would contact top rank or at least talk to someone at ESPN, some boxing website, etc.? He was MIA that entire time. Not until Pac signs to fight Margarito did floyd say anything publicly, making that racist rant online and acting like a fool. type of shit is that from someone who supposedly wants to fight? Even your clone Tony was forced to admit that "floyd doesn't want to fight right now leave him alone"

This is from your own so-called proof: "I am willing to take blood tests, just not the day of the fight. I am willing to help for the future of the sport. I do not want to see anyone cheat or cheat this sport. For that reason, I am willing to consider taking blood test as close as 14 days prior to the fight, as long as my opponent does the same, and it is not a lot of blood, just enough to test.

LOL. He still didn't agree to it he said he would consider 14 days. LOL try again..
