full of shit...if ur favorite artist dropped a mixtape rite now 99% of you would buy it, no matter the price.

just because everyone is doin it dont mean you gotta stop, if thats the case then niggas mite as well stop makin albums period. its only watered down because you let it be, ,my radio rotation is perfectly fine because i slap shit I wanna listen to whether its a mixtape or an album.

Hyphy Juice Mixtape & Bailey and J Valentine Hide Ya Bitch Mixtape are great examples

Do You, Think for Yourself

my album is coming but it aint soon. i dont know how yall feel about music but just because its labeled a mixtape dont mean im slack off because of it. i personally dont like doin the beats thats played out all over the radio but doin a mixtape is like exercise for me or spring training. im puttin in my reps and tryna get used to the speed of the game before the season starts. im stayin sharp so my album could be 3x better than any mixtape ive ever done...some ppl dont look at it as a business

As a die hard rap fan, Im not fuckin with NO BODYS mixtapes unless they raw as FUCK like when Stalin came out with Early Morning Shift 1 (peep that best 7 bucks spent in my life) or its someone like Taj-he-spitz whos on the come up, but im not gonna fuck with any rappers mixtape, the dude gotta be GREAT... bars like a mothafucka or im not fuckin with your shit

thats my opinion. Mixtapes are watering down hiphop, its making people not get excited out releases anymore cause most of them are fuckin shit. Thats the blunt truth.

A little off topic, but Jacka actually has me excited about the rap scene this year, first time for me to get like that in a while. Ima cop 3 copies of Tear Gas the day it drops. Rappers take notes. I can't stand it when rappers be coming with half assed weak shit. Embarassment to the rap game.

here's the question...WHO FLOODED THE MARKET? MIXTAPES OR WACK RAPPERS IN THE BAY?

my answer, a shit load of wack rappers.

the rap game in the bay was in a better position when we only had a handful of rappers...

that's when i used to buy CD's ...now a days, i find myself 6-7 CD's a year compared to the 30-40 CD's i used to buy a year..

co-muthafuckin-sign that man. Don't forget established artists that pimped themselves out to these wack rappers for a quick buck as a featured artist.

This might be a stupid question, but do mixtapes COUNT towards an artists' record sales? They aren't ALBUMS, so I don't see how they would. Probably answered my own question.

I think mixtapes are cool, as far as an artist gettin' a buzz goin'. They're even okay IN BETWEEN the release of albums. However, if someone's consistently droppin' mixtape after mixtape, it gets old. The game has become OVERSATURATED with mixtapes as is.

I believe as long as the product has a bar code and it gets scanned, it counts. Mixtapes were made to hold you over until the artist came with the album but nowadays artists like Ya Boy has long outlived his buzz and has only made guest appearances and such but alas no album.

the mixtapes that are no good are the ones when the artist really just add's his own verse to a previously made song....that shit is retarded

its the artist that just use the beats from other songs and make somethin completely different with it, that i dont hav a problem with...especially if the beats are relatively unheard of

for example:
http://www.myspace.com/brainrapevol1

every song except "Yo Mama & Me" are mixtape tracks

honestly i feel its ok for an up and coming artist to release a mixtape as long as it showcases their ability to make a song, not just spit a verse...

the mixtape game in general has gotten over saturated because rappers/artists started releasing mixtapes without djs trying to copy the same format to "get on" like 50 Cent did. So any bedroom rapper with MTV Dreams could download instrumentals, rap through the microphones into a bootleg version of protools, burn a few cds and now he/she has a mixtape out and is the hottest rapper in the streets. Everybody got start somewhere i guess. but like anything in life you half to sift through hella bullshit to get to the real shit.
