That's a decent point. Just like this...there are oriental people who live in South Africa & call themselves Africans.
But here's the problem with the term 'Nubian'...it actually only encompasses a certain group of people.
(from Merriam-Webster)
Main Entry: Nu·bi·an
Pronunciation: 'nü-bE-&n, 'nyü-
Function: noun
Date: 15th century
1 a : a native or inhabitant of Nubia b : a member of one of the group of dark-skinned peoples that formed a powerful empire between Egypt and Ethiopia from the 6th to the 14th centuries
2 : any of several languages spoken in central and northern Sudan
- Nubian adjective
Main Entry: Nu·bia
Pronunciation: 'nü-bE-&, 'nyü-
Usage: geographical name
region & ancient kingdom NE Africa along the Nile in S Egypt & N Sudan
The first problem lies in being able to identify exactly where in Africa you came from (as someone mentioned earlier). The second problem (well, I don't know if it's really a problem, more of an issue) would be what to call black people who didn't come from 'Nubia.' But like EDJ said, we're mixed with so many different cultures, it would probably be too damn hard to pinpoint an exact country. There would probably be too many countries to include in your title. So let's say for example, I found out that the black side of my family came from Egypt, Ethiopia, and Tanzanian. And being that I'm mixed, would I then be a Nubian-Tanzanian-German-Austrian-Hungarian-American?
It's sometimes hard to pick out on part of your heritage to choose as your title. Because then it seems like you're discrediting the rest of your ethnicity.
