think of how Monta's development would have been without J-Rich being traded. It was a bittersweet trade. Also Monta has become one of the best if not the best post up players on the dubz. Learned a lot from b-diddy

j-rich is a player skills coach now? or some kind of good luck charm? he exhales performance enhancing drugs?

monta's development is all monta. you think someone else won him the most improved player award? and then nearly won it again the very next year.

each year he has improved at an incredible rate. i knew his 3 point shot would come around this year. i also knew his defense and his strength would be a factor, he gained a lot of strength last year but his ankle wasnt healthy when he did play.

next step to fully get at D-Wade's level is getting whistles and turning it over less. he will adjust to being the number 1 guy that everybody is trying to stop. having team mates helps too. Biedrins will help Monta's assists, waiting in the paint for Monta to drop it off to him.

and you're a fool if you think that BD was the only person that could have, or that he was the greatest mentor ever or something. when you play for a professional team, there are coaches/mentors everywhere trying to help their investment improve. doesnt seem like we have many tho, especially post Mullin era.

sure Diddy helped a little, but in the end, it all comes down to the player.

im not saying j-rich was a players coach...let me rephrase

Monta wouldnt be as succesful without J-Rich getting traded because he wouldnt get as much PT if J-Rich were still on that team after 07.

It's not always that simple saying, "It all comes down to the player"

You can't discount the impact an all-star caliber PG is going to have on a guy who's been in the league less than 3 years. Especially one who's as cerebral as BD.

I'm not saying he was Monta's only mentor, but Coach, shmoach - Coaches aren't on the court come game time and coaches aren't going at you HARD in practice showing you where the holes in your game are. A young cat that's willing to learn + an All Star caliber player who's willing to teach = development that's ahead of schedule.

A lot of good those coaches are doing with Anthony Randolph. Sometimes you need an extra level of reach that can only come from a player.

well said Peete. Randolph has no mentor right now... well its Turiaf pretty much, but someone like Diddy prolly woulda helped Randolph more since he can handle for a big man.

but you cant discount Monta's ability on his own, for a player to be that successful out of high school is very freakish. Monta developed faster than Kobe did, and Kobe had much better coaches and vets to bring him up.

agreed better competition will make you better, thats obvious. and thats why Monta is helping Curry, and Curry is also helping Monta a little.

I'm not discounting Monta AT ALL trust me. BD or MJ or whoever could be in your ear all day trying to sharpen your mental but if you can't apply what you're learning (Kwame Brown anybody?), it's all for nothing.

total points is a turrible stat to judge defense.

a team that walks the ball up and sits on it for the entire shot clock every possession doesnt have better defense, its called pace. the warriors and the suns are the two highest paced teams. more possessions = more shots = more points.

field goal % is the best stat to judge defense.

yeah... you have a point... that's both their style of play

but you don't act like the Warriors are a great defensive team or anything... I mean they're one fo the top scoring teams in the league and have a horrible record... that should tell you all about their defense

my point is... we win games by outscoring teams... not by playing defense... sure we have some good defenders on the team, and there are times when we play all around good defense... but usually no

anyways... they shot for 53% on field goals and 45% on 3's... which is not bad... so wither they were super hot... or we had no perimeter defense

whatever though... like I said... it was a great win...

nellie doesnt care about defense, but we could be a good defensive team. once we have centers of course. we are top 3 in blocks and steals every year, the problem is rebounding. and rebounding is why we lose, even when we do play good de and the other team misses, they get 2nd and 3rd chances. free possessions from rebounds.

and yes, u win games by outscoring the other team. thats how the nba works. good offense will beat good defense. the offense has the advantage in basketball.

the Warriors are ranked number 3 in points per game

the Warriors are also ranked number... dead last in points allowed per game

the Warriors record is 8-21

that pretty much sums it up

you seem to be downplaying how bad we are on defense... and how important defense is in basketball

yes of course the goal is to outscore your opponent... but I'm saying you have to outscore your opponent and prevent them from scoring as well... we can score just fine... but we're allow teams to score an average of 112.3 per game

an offense has the advantage just like that??

Boston is ranked 13th in offense... and number 1 in defense... while we're ranked number 3 in offense and number 30 in defense...

who's the better team?
