Feb 16, 2011 - The Oakland Raiders and DT Richard Seymour have agreed to a two-year contract,*according to Jim Trotter of SI.com. The report states that the total value of the contract is $30 million with $22.5 million guaranteed.*

The Raiders traded a 2011 first round pick to the New England Patriots shortly before the 2009 season for Seymour's rights. So they needed to sign him to a multi-year contract to get the most bang for their buck on the trade instead of letting him walk. The two sides reportedly tried to work out a long-term deal last year but couldn't agree on terms so he played under the franchise tag.*

Seymour's signing is important for a couple of reasons.

First, it keeps a good player in-house without committing completely ridiculous money over the long-term. I like this move for a defensive tackle that will turn 32 years old next season.

Second, it now allows the Raiders to use the franchise tag on TE Zach Miller, if that's what they choose to do. Miller is obviously a guy they want to keep so, barring a long-term deal, my best guess would be that he gets the tag.*

So the Raiders get to keep one of their top defensive players and they now have the franchise tag available to keep one of their top offensive players.*

now I'm jus waiting for Perry or Moss from GB to become DC here.. prolly won't happen but I just hope we dont let chuck bresnahan become DC here again.. regardless tho this is our best coaching staff "on paper" in yearssss... and we got very solid players from last years draft who will continue to build up this team.. lets just hope we continue to sign our key FAs, and lets hope Jason Campbell can continue leading this team to more victories and finish with a better record then 8-8 this year.. lets go 6-0 within tha west and actually win key games outside tha divison this time around

why wouldnt he wanna be a raider for that much money? aint no one else gonna give him that much anywhere else plus he already has a super bowl ring
and he's worth every damn penny spent for this team.. much better than us taking a chance on a rookie and payin him big bucks! Seymour is a force on this D Line and helps tha players around him get better.. jus ask Tommy Kelley who finally broke out last season with Big Rich getting double teamed..

Im pretty sure Z. Miller will be tha one who gets tagged if we cant get a longterm deal worked out..

Gallery & Bush will most likely work a deal out..

my only concern is Aso.... We def. won't be giving him top 5 QB money again this year now that Big Rich jus got a huge deal.. and I can see other teams throwing top dollar @ Aso.. hopefully Rod Woodson can talk him into staying..

there was all this negative talk bs coming out once Cable wasn't signed to remain HC here and how players would wanna leave and coaches wont come here blah blah blah

but honestly every move that has been made so far has been great! Hue Jackson @ HC, Al Saunders OC, got Rod Woodson and Steve Wisniewski on board as well to show these players what raider football is about...

we can see it, i'm sure tha FAs see as well.. this team is ready to make another run in tha AFC West

He wasn’t going to get more money per season somewhere else, but on the open market, he probably could have gotten more guaranteed money in a longer term deal. it'll be cheaper for us in the long run. after two years, he won't be worth as much, but will still be worth having on the team. then we can resign him on the cheap. if he wanted more guaranteed money and longer contract, he could have got it elsewhere. he chose to stay with us.

as for nnamdi, I don't see any team offering him much more than what revis is getting(11.5 next season). I think al can swing that if he wants to.

The Pro Bowl defensive tackle has maintained in public he wanted to remain a Raider, and at these numbers, this deal serves as validation. Hard to believe he couldn’t have received more on the open market.
like someone else in here already said...

he might not have gotten quite as much from another team, but he could have gotten a nice long term contract, something to guarantee him money for the rest of his career

if it was really all about the money he would have gone for a long term deal, especially considering getting close to the back end of his career

he's probably got a few more years of playing at or near the top of his game, after that it's down hill

Wimbley option picked up

NFL Network's Mike Lombardi confirms that the Raiders have picked up SLB Kamerion Wimbley's $3.5 million option for 2011.
He's now signed through next season. Wimbley, the Raiders' sack leader with nine last year, will return as the club's starting strong-side linebacker in 2011.
