The Raiders "could be suitors" for free agent CB Antonio Cromartie, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.
With the Jets zeroing in on Nnamdi Asomugha, Cromartie appears to be on his way out. The Raiders, of course, will be looking for someone to fill Asomugha's shoes at a cheaper rate. Cromartie will have to wait for Asomugha to make his decision before figuring out his best option.
How about Jonothan Joseph? he's a hell of a corner and available....

Niners try and get Nnamdi, so Raiders go after Goldson. Jets go after Nnamdi, Raiders go after Cromartie.
I think Al Davis is trying to force these teams to spend some money if they want to try and take Nnamdi away.

If Nnamdi goes to the Niners it really wont matter much. Niners need a lot more than a CB to win games. They need to save money to try and sign Frank Gore, who plans on holding out.

Cromartie proved himself to be a shutdown corner last season and he's better then Asomugha against the bigger sized receivers imo

im more concerned with our o-line than with our cornerbacks. if we could pick up jared gaither it would be a nice upgrade if he stays healthy. and hes only 25 i think

they are negotiating a long term deal with wimbley also, to free up some cap space.

By Jason La Canfora |

The Raiders want to be an active player in free agency, but they’ll have to clear some salary-cap space first. That means re-working contracts, with LB Kamerion Wimbley at the top of their list.

Wimbley has a franchise tag worth $11.3 million for 2011, and a league source said the Raiders are deep into negotiations on an extension that would slash his 2011 cap figure and spread his earnings over future years.

The Raiders and Cowboys were two teams in most peril in regards to the cap, but Dallas has made several cuts and freed up ample space, and also could clear even more with some simple restructurings.

Raiders released RG Cooper Carlisle.
The deal saves $2.1 million in salary cap space. The SF Chronicle's Vittorio Tafur speculates that Carlisle could be back at a lesser salary and that this was just a formality before Friday's free agent signings officially go through.

Raiders released CB Chris Johnson.
It's a little surprising that the Raiders would move on from Johnson when they're set to lose free agent Nnamdi Asomugha. Perhaps it's a sign that the Raiders have something up their sleeve at corner, such as going after Antonio Cromartie.

Updating previous items, the Raiders have not released CB Chris Johnson or RG Cooper Carlisle.
NFL Network erroneously reported that the two players had been released, but both took part in training camp practice on Thursday. They may be cut later on, though. Both have relatively large salaries in comparison to their recent production levels. In Oakland, of course, they're both penciled in as starters.
