If the folks at Strange knew anything about PR, they would know that the FIRST thing you do when you fuck up, be it releasing a poor quality product or engage in any sort of activity deemed unacceptable by the (buying) public i.e. scrubbing the innernets, is to be HONEST and up front about actions.
Even if the straight up truth sucks - the folks at Strange were rushed, they set the release date too close to the release of the last album (or other Strange albums), they didn't think through the beat selection, they let the wrong people make the wrong decisions, they made promises to other artists/collaborators that they shouldn't have, etc. - they will still be better of than if they let the public GUESS and make ASSUMPTIONS about the product or their actions.
OR...it could be that Tech & Co. genuinely thinks Mixed Plate is a good album.
The route their taking is lose-lose. Part of me is hesitant to buy a Strange album because of the product itself A bigger part of me is hesitant because Strange looks awfully shady in their practices. You can't control what appears on the internet. Tens of thousands of folks like me REFUSE to buy an album without downloading it first, especially if there's a track record of low quality (*ahem*MLK*ahem*...it's also the reason I downloaded the new Em before buying it since I knew Encore and Relapse sucked). Hell...this album will probably be $9.99 at Best Buy.
You know what, I'd still have probably bought it the day it came out...
...but am seriously reconsidering, partly because of the quality, but even more so because the business decisions of the label.
