now that ive had some time to play the game in depth heres my little review.
capcom is epic fail at 2 things. 1 character design and 2 balance. both show here. move priority in this game is seriously fucked up. i hate how the boss is yet another pallet swap (urien gale anyone?) with just cloned moves. they brought out the creative guns for that one. however who really cares, the game looks like tekken now anyway. The first thing I notice is how bad they nerfed bison. it was okay that they took away his speed but the amount of recovery added to his moves means you'll be eating shit if everything doesn't go 100% perfect. the second thing I noticed is that charge mechanics in this game are off. this could be because i'm using an xbox standard controller. I hate the "new" throw system, I would have preferred the old super turbo system. Speaking of "new", this whole focus attack thing while it can be cool (love getting free damage off a charged focus!) it really doesn't add anything to gameplay. the music can be awesome at times and down right horrible (OP) at others. on the plus side of things I like the combo system even though they still haven't changed the jump in approach. being able to negative edge ex moves is also nice.
balance 2/10
graphics 5/10 (not my style, they look like crap truthfully)
music 8/10
mechanics 4/10 (super gauge fills waaaaay too slow. air and okizeme options are very limited, some ex moves give knockdown but it feels like theres no point, wake up throw is totally fucked)
no offense but I've never read a SF4 review I disagree more with.
-The throw system now relies on planning than luck or button mashing
-Focuses are better since they are slightly easier to initiate and cant be spammed like parries. It's multi use and has a huge range of different options.
-EX''es are essential in some cases (try using chun li without a EX SBK)
-Yeah seth sucks, he's anoying.
-I actually do better with this bison than in SF2turbo. You have to focus more on his regular attacks/links, rather than rely on his specials (as it should be)
-As for the charge mechanics being off, you answered it yourself, using an xbox controller for SF is like riding a bike with no legs.
-Graphics, that comes down to opinion and how much someone cares about the 2D to 3D thing. The general consensus is that the animation is spectacular.
The thing is no one should really be giving any final reviews until they have at least 6 months play time. I mean look at the professionals, their opinions steadily changed to the positive the longer the game was out.
I'm holding off from really reviewing it myself until I'm into the game but I can say this, I probably wont be going back to SF2Turbo for a long time, the gameplay/balance feels too archaic in comparison.
Also like the other SF's there will probably be a bunch of remixes to fix small things, or maybe even DLC version options.
