^scratch that post.. lol..

i think something you guys will need to do is get nationwide promotion.. and also instead of saying fuck the radio.. meet with those motherfuckers and get some bay shit in rotation..

im sick of hearing R Kelly and Puff Daddy and other simple minded motherfuckers on our bay area radio stations when i could be listening to the Jacka, Wax, Droop.. Mac and AK, Gangsta Reese..

i dont know what it takes to get songs on the radio.. and i dont have any idea how much promotion costs.. (id imagine a lot)

but you have ppl on the siccness from Florida, LA, all over CA.. Illinois.. fuckin even Holland and shit.. if they step up and PROMOTE shit with the materials they get.. and dont just leave it sitting around.. thats more ppl that get introduced to this bay shit..

and if one person gets introduced to, say, San Quinn.. and he does a cut with Fully Loaded.. and they do a song with Andre Nicky.. it just keeps goin on and on..

Could you imagine ONE record label in the Bay??? 100 releases a year (that's about 8 releases a month) that sell 10,000 units each is roughly 1,000,000 units sold. That's about $7,000,000 dollars in gross billing less manufacturing and promotion costs tha leaves about 5 mil to be divied up among the artists and sub-labels. Imagine that...that's power.

I agree that there's too many folks out there tryin to hustle their way into to the game with nuttin to offer, they tryin to put together compilations on shoestring to no budgets and are puttin a strain on the market becuz they dont have the money or resources to effectively market and promote the album. To these particular folks I say... learn the game and make sure you have something to offer, otherwise you're part of the problem not the solution.

^^^ THATS WHY ITS UP TO THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS KNOWLEDGE TO TEACH THESE NEW CATS OR UP AND COMERS HOW THINGS WORK.... AND WHAT THEY SHOULD EXPECT WHEN T HEY ENTER THE GAME... MAYBEE IT WILL SOUND TOO HARD TO THEM, AND THEY WILL QUIT BEFORE THEY START??? OR AT LEAST HAVE SOME KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THEY UP AGAINST...... ITS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN, WHICH IS WHY ALOT OF CATS ENTER THE GAME IN THE 1ST PLACE, BUT ITS ALOT OF HARD WORK YOU NEED TO PUT IN.....

Keyanan: Then take your ass back to the mid-west, this is a board called BAY AREA RAP TALK. And that is what we are doing. I got love for KC, MO - KC, KS, Cleveland and all the mid-west but we have to make something happen at home before we can woory about other regions.

It's not as easy as just meeting with MD/PD to get your shit in rotation on the KMELs and KWLDs. Not anymore. Now days with Clear Channel owning over 1,200 stations nationwide they have set programlists for their stations. They reason you here the same songs all day is because of what is called Legal Payolla. Payolla was outlawed in the late 80's. Now instead of directly ptting cash in a DJ's hand the majors now will sponser concerts, give-a-ways and other station promotions in exchange for rotation and preferential treatment. The majors spend in excess of 300 MILLION a year on this. This gives the independent labels little chance of competing. Congress is currently looking into Clear Channel and this "legal payolla" which has been going on for years. Part of the blame lays on the government. After they deregulated radio, Clear Channel went from owning around 20 or so stations nationwide to the over 1200 (over 65%) they have now. Before you could own no more than I think 2 stations in one market (correct me if I wrong).

Eternal Designs: From the few posts of yours I've seen you seem like a very intelligent cat with some good knowledge about the industry. I hope to chop it up with you at the BBQ this weekend.

Also, speaking about radio payola, I posted this back in May. I thought you and others may like to read it now though since we're on the subject.

I ain't from the bay of course, but I totally agree with what you had to say B, that's some of the realest shit I've ever read. I look forward to your book and dvd. I work my ass off promoting indie bay labels and indie labels in general, while trying to do my rap thing. And I'll do it a hundred times harder if thats what it's gotta take to help yall out even more.

Mak X: You aint got to be from the Bay to feel us, you just got to want to suport the indie cause period. It just has to start here because we are from here and we started indie rap right here. One luv.
