well if you wanna first speak on Mexican immigrants, you should know that California used to be Mexico.they were here first.so NO,they shouldnt be forced to speak english.the white man wanted it and the white man got it,now the white man wants them to speak english.if you think they should then this needs to be turned around to every other ethnicity except mexicans, cus everyone else "came" here.i have no problem with it.thats why they have classes in school for kids who aint good at english, thats jobs for them teachers.shit, they got a whole elementary school here in Stockton (Valenzuela) thats totally in spanish.my nephews go there and aint even mexican, but now they know spanish that'll benefit them in the long run............

just remember,California was Mexico..........Mexicans have always been here.realize the names of MOST California cities, they're spanish.you might not realize that that, but they are..........

all immigrants should learn the language of the country they reside in, mexicans, chinese, puertoricans, that goes for any americans in other countries as well... especially considering how much we bitch n moan about immigrants in our country.
Ok. Great idea. Since the US was stolen from native people why not learn the languages of the respective societies on whose land the white man stole? Oh you mean modern America? Ok. Let's all learn the official language...wait! There is none.

I'll speak as a person living on the other coast. Because I do live there, heh, and because it's far away from the "hot spots" that would otherwise be controversial to debate over.

I took a little French in school, and failed miserably, in the hopes of someday seeing France. I would not have gone there with out knowing the language. But there is a very big difference between traveling to a country and moving to a country.

More than once I have had to shake my head and try to express to someone that I do not speak their language. And they do get upset at me. It just happens. The majority of the people in this country speak American English, but there are small pockets where they speak in their own native tongue. And they're happy that way. But it's hard for people like me to accommodate them when it comes to their shopping experience outside of their own little areas.

Where I live, there 3 sections of different languages going on, mostly Korean, Chinese, and Spanish.<-(Edited.)

I don't want to come off as rude, or whatever, but I don't want to learn 5 languages so that I can cater to the different people that come in. I speak english. I can't force people to learn more than their individual language; It's their choice entirely whether or not to have easy communication outside of their homes. But I can say from experience that learning another language is hard, and I failed French. That's why I'm not going to visit France, haha.

Just curious, I need a history lesson I forgot. Before Cali belonged to Mexico, who's land was it before? Didn't it belonged to Native Americans? Pomos, etc. If so, it's hypocritical to say it is my country and you stole it to the White man when Mexicans did the same thing to Native Americans?.....No?

LMAO @ Mexican being a language LOL. I hear that way too often, "I CAN'T SPEAK MEXICAN" - Bam's fat uncle lol.

Mexicans didnt call each other Mexican back then.we were native just like there were natives in the east coast, mid west, north and so on.(mexican) natives were in California,Texas,Arizona,& New Mexico..........

first answer to your first question: Mexico

2nd: yes,and they were Mexican

3rd:no,see above

when they say the white man stole this country from the natives, thats true, but in the beginning, the U.S. was mainly on the east coast.thats the part that you read about.they stole from those natives.Mexico still owned "Aztlan".Mexico extended up here.the white man wanted this territory for its union and tried to take it.they went to war and the U.S. ended up with it..........

Mexicans werent "native americans",this was THEIR land.........there werent "native americans" in Mexico, just Mexicans.........

Isn't the Mexican ethnicity a combination of the spanish settlers and the natives that had been living there?
No. There is no "Mexican" Ethnicity. The Mexica are the Mexica. The Mayans are the Mayans and the Toltecs are the Toltecs. Not all Mexicans are Mexica. We all spoke different languages but we are all bonded by Anahuac.

Good question lol, I really don't know. But here's my answer, I thought Mexicans were Aztecs that lived near Mayans. I thought Aztecs were ruled by Spaniards and they raped the women and had Mestizos. So, I think Mexicans are Aztecs and many with Spaniard descent. Wrong? If so, I have a question, did Aztecs ever occupy California when there was no Spanish rule?

Mexicans, or any other immigrant, do not have to learn to speak English. And well-paying employers do not have to hire uneducated immigrants who don't speak English. If you want a decent job in America, you need to have a good command of the English language, both in speaking and writing. If you can speak English and Spanish fluently in Southern California, they will pay you even more money.

Many immigrants have a tough time becoming educated in America because many of them come from poor, third world countries. Living in a society like that where there is not a structured education system, education is a low priority for people because putting food on the table is more important. Unfortunately, that mentality is often brought over here, and that is when I see young kids who should be in school instead helping their dad cut lawns all day.

What I find funny is how high on a pedastal many immigrants hold California's public education system. They must not know that California keeps spitting out more and more retards year after year. But maybe since we are the largest economy in the world, they see the U.S. education system as doing something right.

Immigrants should not HAVE to learn English, I mean fuck we're all human beings regardless of what language we speak. But obviously someone who speaks English has an advantage over someone who doesnt, since English is the language most often used around the world

think about it this wat though, as an American speaking fluent English most of yall are able to go to a foreign country and be able to find other people who can communicate with you effectively. its a lot harder for immigrants coming here and trying to assimilate into a new culture. also, since I only speak one language I have tons of respect for people who are bi-libgual, trilingual, whatever because its not easy!
