Seahawks CBs Sherman, Browner both face PED suspensions
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 25, 2012, 6:44 PM EST
Seahawks Browner and Sherman celebrate Browner's interception against Eagles wide receiver Cooper during their NFL football game in Seattle Reuters

Both of the Seahawks’ starting cornerbacks could be facing NFL suspensions for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Seahawks cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner are both facing four-game suspensions for violating the NFL’s PED policy. PFT has confirmed that both players are facing suspensions, and Mike Florio reports that the details on the players’ appeals have not been finalized: No appeals hearing has been held, and the timeframe for the appeals hearing hasn’t been determined. Both players will play at least until their appeals are resolved.

If the appeals are unsuccessful, that would be devastating to the Seahawks on the field — and probably lethal to any hopes the Seahawks have of making the playoffs. Losing either starting cornerback would be a significant blow to Seattle’s defense. Losing both would be devastating.

Sherman and Browner would be replaced in the starting lineup, if they are suspended, by Marcus Trufant and Walter Thurmond.

There is no word on which banned substance Sherman and Browner are alleged to have taken.

Seahawks = Cheaters

These cats have been playing all year, knowing damn well they got caught cheating back in September. Crazy thing is they can appeal and avoid being suspended until next season.

Jason LaCanfora @SportsRadioKJR says both Browner/Sherman tested positive in September on the same day, notified in October of positive test

lol if you think it was adderal that they were taking, try steroids.
I've read numerous articles and they say they tested positive for Adderal. Show me a link that states they tested for Roids.

Browner and Sherman tested positive for Adderall, a widely used (and abused) prescription medication the NFL has banned under its policy against performance-enhancing drugs. Adderall is a stimulant. http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/82719/around-the-nfc-west-seahawks-cb-issues

But while Seahawks starting cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner reportedly face four-game suspensions after testing positive for Adderall, Sherman says he has never taken the substance.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/26/sherman-denies-taking-adderall/

Is Adderall becoming the new excuse for steroids users?

For an athlete caught using steroids, the four-game suspension is nothing compared to the scarlet "S" that gets applied to their permanent P.R. record.

The player never will be viewed the same way. If he succeeds, cynics will say it's because he's using steroids. If he becomes average or worse, the fact that he's not using steroids any longer will be identified as the reason.

But since the league says nothing publicly about the reason for a suspension imposed under the NFL policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances, the player who is suspended can say whatever he wants — and the league never will correct the record.

Previously, players popped for steroids blamed a spiked over-the-counter supplement. Even if anyone ever bought that excuse, no one does anymore.

And so it could be that the new non-steroid alibi arises from Adderall, a prescription ADD medication.

Giants safety Tyler Sash blames his four-game suspension on Adderall. Previously, Packers defensive end Mike Neal did the same thing. Both claim they were using it with a prescription.

If they're telling the truth (and we're not saying they aren't), why didn't the NFL reduce or eliminate their suspensions?

Giants running back Andre Brown was using Adderall with a prescription but without advance approval from the league. He tested positive, he appealed, and his suspension was lifted. Ditto for Texans punter Brett Hartmann, whose four-game suspension was cut to three — and who now has approval to take Adderall.

If Neal and Sash are telling the truth, the NFL's procedures seem to be horribly inconsistent. (Then again, even if Neal and Sash aren't telling the truth, the fact that Brown got no suspension and Hartmann received three games makes no sense.)

Either way, Adderall provides players with a convenient strategy for avoiding the stigma of steroids. The fact that league can say nothing about the facts and circumstances surrounding the suspension allows the players to say whatever they want.

How can you test positive for adderal if the NFL doesn't have a test that detects adderall, they tested positive for amphetamines, from what I have read amphetamines and steroids go hand in hand went it comes to body building.

Sports Radio KJR ‏@SportsRadioKJR
#CBS LaCanfora @SportsRadioKJR says they tested for an amphetamine, not specifically adderall - not a specific test for that.

So can you provide a link that states they tested positive for Roids or not? They both tested positive for amphetamines.
So why did you bring up adderal?? There is no way to prove that that's what they tested for.

Adderal? Pffft. No big deal even if they did it. Four game suspension would be beyond harsh for a perscription pill.
you make it sound like they were popping/snorting aspirins.

Stop being a homer, what a coincidence Browner a bum who left the NFL to go to the CFL comes back 5+ years later and suddenly resurrects his career, same goes for Sherman a 5th round pick starts beasting at the same time. You know those two morons started using PED's at the same time during the 2011 off-season, and got caught a year later.

I'm not being a homer I'm correcting you on your errors. They tested positive for amphetamines, which is a fact. Whether or not it was adderall is irrelivant since your claim was they tested positive for steroids, which they didn't. Further adderall is an amphetamine, so what difference does it make if it was adderall or some kind of different amphetamine? It's all amphetamines any way you slice it.

I don't know about Browner, he's not as good as Sherman, but Sherman being drafted in the 5th round means nothing. Tons of great players come from late rounds obviousy. Sherman played great last year in his rookie season, here "Despite starting only 10 games in his rookie season, Sherman was selected to the 2011 PFW All-Rookie Team, shattering all expectations heading into the season. [3] He also led all rookies with 21 passes defended and 4 interceptions in addition to 55 tackles."

errors? quote where i said they tested positive for steroids, I said they were taking steroids not that they got caught taking steroids. And how is adderal irrelevant when you yourself said that's what they tested positive for? I then corrected you and showed the report that said the NFL doesn't test for adderal. Also I never said that due to sherman being a 5th round pick he can't be successful in the NFL. It's a combination of things that leads me to believe that both Browner and Sherman were taking steroids. First they test positive for PED's(amphetamines) and I already told you how those are linked with roids from what I have read. I then procedded to observe their recent success that fits into the time frame of their PED use and put 2 and 2 together.

If Browner and Sherman are found guilty of violating the league's policy, they would be the fourth and fifth Seahawks players in the last calendar year to be violators. Guard John Moffitt was suspended four games late last season. Reserve offensive lineman Allen Barbre was suspended for the first four games of this season before being released by the team once his suspension was up. And just last week, rookie safety Winston Guy was handed a four-game suspension after taking an over-the-counter product that had a banned substance in the ingredients.
Sherman denies taking Adderall

The default excuse for players who are suspended for violating the league’s policy against performance-enhancing drugs has become Adderall, a prescription stimulant that carries none of the stigma of steroids.

But while Seahawks starting cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner reportedly face four-game suspensions after testing positive for Adderall, Sherman says he has never taken the substance.

Steve Wyche of NFL Network reports that Sherman has confirmed that he and Browner have been notified of the suspensions, and that Sherman says he has never taken Adderall.

As we explained last night, both players will continue to practice and participate in games until the appeal process has been resolved.

The timetable for the resolution of the appeal still isn’t known. Reports that Browns cornerback Joe Haden faced a four-game suspension for Adderall emerged on August 8, and the suspension wasn’t finalized for more than a month.

With five games left, the process will need to move quickly for the suspensions, if upheld, to be served during the 2012 regular season. The suspensions would spill into the postseason, if the Seahawks qualify.

you specifically said steroids its on this very same page. "lol if you think it was adderal that they
were taking, try steroids."

fact is they didn't test positive for roids and that's the bottom line. I disagree with a four game suspension since guys who do get busted for roids get a 4-6 game suspension and what they did imo doesn't compare, but its the nfl rules nothing I can do. shitty situation any which way but again my point was it wasn't roids.

God damn that was an awesome game. I hate when da bears lose but if it's going to happen I'm glad it was seattle.

Russell Wilson has been playing some amazing football. Those two drives at the end of the game, one 97 yard drive at the end of the 4th and then again in OT, impressive stuff. He's the future of seattle no doubt about it.

On da bears side...where to begin. They basically had Cutler & Brandon Marshal, who both played great but that was it. After Bennett went out with a concussion, they literally had three active WR's - one a kick returner and another from the practice squad. Bears D is really showing their age right now, looked out of gas at the end of the game. But that was also Wilson making play after play after play.

Best game I've seen this year.
