Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones jr. SEPTEMBER 20th

According to The Sun newspaper Joe Calzaghe fights Roy Jones jr. on september 20 in Las vegas.

The date is dictated by HBO who has a vacant date due to Floyd Mayweathers retirement.

Team Roy Jones and Joe Calzaghe has had the negotiations along with Golden Boy promotions.

I'm glad its not in the UK where Joe would've probably gotten a gift decision, assuming the fight was close. But glad its in Vegas.

Hopefully Roy can outwork Joe and show what a pussy he is.

I think Calzaghe walks over him and its sad because of the age. If you watch the Tito fight Roy is still doing the hands up but away from the face pull back on the ropes, watch the fight and the look on his face when he does it. That is the exact thing that has got him knocked out before. Because he relied on his speed early on his tight defense just plan sucks. Joe isnt a big puncher but if you stay on the ropes with him he will hurt you. And if you stay on the ropes with the style that Jones has been using he will get KO'd again. I just do not believe that Jones will not at some point go to the ropes and get lazy if he does this he is fucked. The only chance in my opinion is Roy catching him with a big left hook before this happens.

On that note though a under 40 Roy would obviously smoke Calzaghe.

Looks like this fight will go down at Madison Square Garden. Pretty cool.

::::::::

Joe Calzaghe may not be Jewish but it looks as though the unbeaten Welsh Dragon may make his final pro ring appearance at “The Temple.”

Before you call your local rabbi for tickets, be advised that I am referring to Madison Square Garden which looms as the probable site for Calzaghe against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. on Sept. 20.

That was a date planned for De La Hoya-Mayweather II, a surely tedious affair between two businessmen in Las Vegas but then Pretty Boy Floyd announced what will be a short-lived retirement.

“Roy wants to fight in the Garden again and Joe is also keen on this,” a source close to the promotion told ******************.com. “It seems the Dolan family (owners of MSG and Cablevision) are extremely interested. The timing is good because the date comes before the basketball Knicks and hockey Rangers start taking most good dates.”

The source called announcement of a deal “very close.”

^ Sounds dope.

Okay, lets say Roy somehow pulls off the 'W' in this fight. Where does he then stand on the P4P list...? Does he once again catapult himself into the upper echelon of the fight world with a win over Slappin Joe ?

Not sure if he cracks the top 10 with a win. Well, maybe if he looks astonishing he could land somewhere between 6-10 I suppose.

With a win he can pretty much call the shots. He'll be "the man" at light heavy so he could take on Chad Dawson or rematch either Tarver or Glen Jonson, the latter making the most sense since he's already fought Tarver 3 times and Dawson probably isn't a big enough name for Roy Jones at this point in his career. Hopkins is another maybe.

But he's already talkin about going back up to heavyweight after Calzaghe, he wants to fight Samuel Peter and win another Heavyweight title.
