This is a question that is strictly to you fathers. I understand that some of you are father figures, but trust me it's not the same. So with that being said I ask this question...

How old would your son have to be before you would sit and watch Boyz N the Hood with him?

I wouldn't personally. You can't shelter your kids, but at the same time have to recogonize there is nothing of any value in movies like that. Well I take that back. It shows them what not to do. But I am not raising my kids to live like boys in the hood. Entertainment or not, shit like that really goes down and I wouldn't want him thinking it is cool.

I would consider Boyz N The Hood a coming of age film, meaning a mature enough age that they can comprehend not only the main idea of the movie, but differentiate reality against fiction. That's my two cents.

I think it depends, how old is your son gemini?

I'm asking because being at an early age, your boy prolly won't know wuts goin on anyways, like he's not gonna understand it.

Here's a question to the parents: at what age do you let your kids have access to facebook and cellphones. I got a family member who can't be more then 8 year old doing that shit. I'm like wtf.

Also the same 8 year old keeps updating her status to things like "i throw my mayonnaise in the air sometimes saying ayo i got no mayo" and "i throw my homework in the air sometimes saying ayo i'm getting zero" and all her friends keep adding to it.

is this some kind of 8 year old meme i'm not understanding.

Damn, and I'm already troubled by what my 16 year old cousin posts on facebook. Shit makes me feel like a grandpa not understanding today's youth anymore...

In addition to what I said, age doesn't matter in my opinion. Maturity is key.

Heres an example.. it just amazes me.. my sophomore year in high school there was someone I knew that was a "white supremacist ". I remember American History X got mentioned in a conversation about movies and all he could talk about was "That's my favorite movie, the best scene is when he curb stomps that n****r!"

Like did you even finish the movie? That's all you got out of the movie? lol

btw menace II society > boys in the hood

imo
American Me > menace II society and boys in the hood
those are not really the same. I mean, they are but they're not. I see what Gemini is saying, cuz this is more of a film that could be more like a reality to most. not saying that the things in the other two movies don't happen, but this kind of movie pretty much opens up the father-son discussion floodgates.

so to you gemini I say it all depends on the relationship you two have and the maturity level your son has. but be ready to have discussions about the birds & the bees & the b's & the c's & the 13's & 14's & etc.....
