well yea i get what you're saying but i never saw that part of the game as the main game. it was all about building things to me. kind of like sim city.
Yeah the whole building things didn't appeal to me either..

Man, i jus got hella far in XenoSaga then got stuck, literally.. After like 20mins of playing and watching cut scenes i enter a AGWS shop and i get stuck and can't move at all.. Sorta pissed me off..

So i'am gonna give Dragon Quest VIII a go.. A lot of people recommended it.. But i'am really lookin for a more story-driven RPG right now.. Dunno if i'am gonna get that from Dragon Quest, i might just play Soul Nomad instead.

But these are the games i got right now, i'am torn on what i want to play next, any suggestions?

Rogue Galaxy
Disagae 3
Soul Nomad
Star Ocean 3
Dragon Quest VIII

edit: damn i jus did all that shit over again and got stuck in the same spot.. guess i cant go into that one AGWS shop without gettin stuck in the begening.. fucking lame. gotta do without updateing my AGWS' i guess.. Oh well, i barley use 'em anyways....

I've litterally called every Game Spot i can think of around here today lookin for Persona 3 or 4.. Probably like 5 different ones.. None had 'em.

Guess i'am gonna have to buy it off the net.. Saw P3:FES on ebay for $14.99.. I wish i could find it at a gamestop for that price..

strange thing is all of them say that it's a pretty common game they have in their store a lot, yet none of them have either.

The Game Stop review said the battle system is pretty much like Zelda.. I'am not a fan of htting 'a' to swing sword and 'b' to block or w/e.. I'am actually more of a turnbase RPG fan.. Even tho i'd take real time battles like in SO4 over any turnbased RPG battle system anyday.. It's jus hard for me to find a realtime battle system that i like.
Don't open Rogue Galaxy.

In regards to your wild arms 3 question I played a bit, never copped it, but I liked what I played.

persona3/4 made up for all those shitty final fantasy's. Havent plauyed 12 though, I'll get around to it eventually.

I would say if you like oldschool RPG's do dragons quest 8 now. That game is still one of the best ps2 rpg's out. It's really oldschool though so expect to fight and maybe die a lot.

Why not open Rogue Galaxy? I thought it was turn based.. Even if it is a real-time battle system aslong as it has some quirks and stays interesting then i won't mind much.. SO4 has the best battle system imo, with the bonus-board and the bump-system (or w/e that shits called) keeping it fresh every battle..

I'am most interested with Rogue Galaxy becase of its story-line.. From what i read on reviews it seems interesting..

Anyways i decided to stick with XenoSaga 'till i beat it.. I've gotten pretty far, even tho i can't upgraded to the newest AGWS's because i keep gettin stuck in the kukai foundations shop entrance.. I dont care tho cuz i upgraded at the Dock Colony before setting off to 'past miltia'.

Man, anyone who loves Space Opera RPGs (my fav) and loves story-driven RPG's is gonna love this game.. And if you like anime theres another thing here for u, the cut-scenes equal up to a few good anime episodes lol.. It sorta upsets me that Dead Blue said #2 sucks :( Oh well, atleast i got #3 to look foward too.. I can tell this is gonna be one of those games ur gonna have to play the sequel because of all the cliff-hangers in the storyline.

Yes its real time, but the story and different things you can do will keep you very busy, so if you can look past the real time system you're in for one.

I'am a happy man today.. I found my new game store.. Fuck game stop!

I went down to Game Crazy today (actually took the effort to find one, it was sorta hard) and i found SOOOOOO many of the RPG's i was lookin for.. Only thing was they are all OVERPRICED, atleast $5-10 each game.. but w/e..

By the time i got all the games i wanted, in hand i had well over $100+.. So i settled for two games.. Persona 3: FES (brand new for $24.99) and Persona 4 (brand new for $39.99.)

Theres a few games i saw that i really wanted.. I was wonderin if y'all have fucked wit 'em?

GrimGrimGimorie (i think thats how its spelled)

Growslanger Generation (i'am REALLY interested in this game cuz the branching story paths and the lengthy anime-like cutscenes.)

Okage (not very interested on this one.. but maybe someone else can confirm weather its good or not?)

Arc The Lad (any good?)

I also had Disgaea 2 and Digital Devil Saga in my hands.. But since i already started playin Disgaea 3 i decided i'd hold off on Disgaea 2.. And Digital Devil Saga didn't have a case, so i held off on that on too, especially since i already have a copy.. I jus know it was worth more then the $9.99 price tag.

Yeah.. I'am on the last dungeon of XenoSaga.. Not sure if i'am gonna finish the game first or play Persona 3.. I'am pretty damn excited (after weeks of searching) to finnaly have and be able to play this game.. Every person has told me it's a must have, and since Digital Devil Saga was such a whoop ass game i expect Persona 3&4 will be too.. :)

edit: i was also wondering if anyone has played Devil Summoner 2? and what there thoughts were on it.. worth the $30-40 pricetag?

NIS published GrimGrimoire, Jake absolutely loves it, I like it, pretty much anyone who buys it has an idea of what to expect and is pleased. The art style is kind of similiar to Odin Sphere being that it's 2D side view but it actually plays out as a strategic RPG like most NIS games. You would probably like it.

I would finish Xenosaga first because you'll have it out the way and if I remember correctly Xenosaga II starts immediately after I so you won't be lost on the story when you do decide to get into it.

P3 is the kind of game that will suck hours among hours of your life away. You won't want to go outside, sleep, or even eat. lol ...only kind of joking.

I like what I've played of Growlanser Generations (Grownlanser III + IV) but haven't got into it cause I have a back catalog I'm trying to get through first. You probably would be happy if you picked it up but it is dated.

Never played Arc the Lad.

Okage is it's own kind of thing. It's interesting to say the least but the battle system in it really sucks. If you can look past such a shitty system you might enjoy it. I'm sure that the cost was pretty low and it's not rare by any means so there shouldn't be any rush to pick up a copy.

I liked DS1 but haven't played 2 yet. A lot of people didn't like part 1. I'm really not sure why? I think Jake and Heresy both thought it sucked.

Thanks Dead Blue..

Yeah i'am defiantly goin back and pickin up GrimGrimorie and Growslanger: Generations next week.. I think i'll pass on Arc The Lad and Okage.. Even tho both games were in the $4.99-9.99 section..

GrimGrimorie is $16 and Disagae 2 was $17.99.. Sorta pricey compared to Game Stops, but i know they got a buy 1 get 1 free deal right now so i'am not trippin too much.. Growslanger was like $29.99 or $34.99 but it's brand new.

Something i like about Game Crazy is they can order even old games.. He offered to get me Persona 3 for $15 + S&H.. But it wasn't the FES version.. Then i found the FES version sitting on the wall brand new so i forgot about ordering it.. Next week i'am gonna go in there with a pretty long list of games i want ordered tho lol..

I played XenoSaga, got pretty far in Proto Merkabah.. But i'am really pissed off that i can't do a lot of the side missions/quests before hand because i can't enter that AGWS shop on the Kukai Foundation.. Which means i can't give the prof the robot parts and unlock Shions Ethers/Techs.. And i really wanna get Erde Kaiser before entering Proto Merkabah.. With that said, i got to the first save point and decided i'd beat XenoSaga later this weekend... I couldn't containt my excitement of playing Persona anylonger haha

I'am already hooked.. I love the fact you can level and fuse the Persona.. Reminds me of a darker pokemon haha.. The ammount of customization is great.. And i feel really familur to the world already because of playing Digital Devil Saga.. I'am even seeing some of the same demons (jack frost) and Skills.. :) I guess you can already say, that i'am HOOKED!

bout to smoke a bowl of some Grand Daddy i got from the club and eat this $10 Butter Brothers Cookie.. Whoo, i love gettin down on video games blazed out my mind :)

Yea, Jack Brothers are kind of SMT mascot. You'll notice it's kind of like FF with certain spells, monsters, and themes appearing in each game.

Igor is in all the Persona games. (well at least from 2 onward)

I would suggest doing all the extra side quests in P3. They involve even more grinding in a grind heavy game but worth it.

BTW just in case you're curious, FES is short for Festival.

Since were on the topic.. U know of any PS games that are worth my attention? I'am gonna hold off for now but in the future i plan on going back and playing a few RPGs i missed on the PS1.. Even tho i'am sure i played the lot of them.

I've heard Persona 2 (the 2nd released edition) is a great game.. Was interested in picking it up actually if i liked 3&4.. But thats something i'd have to find on a .com website im sure.

lol funny thing i was just coming in here to tell you to try Legend of Mana.

Obviously Valkyrie Profile as well.

I would pass on Persona 2. P3 and P4 are going to totally ruin it for you and to be honest you're not missing much. Besides, US P2 is only half the story. Innocent Sin was never released state side.

...Valkyrie Profile is my all time favorite game and Legend of Mana is just under it. So get those 2. I'll have to make a list later on because the PS has soooo many good RPGs.

Valkyrie Profile is the expensive one, isnt it? It sorta dosn't make sense for me to buy ps1 games actually, since i have a PsX1 emulator on my comp (or w/e its called PsXe maybe?)

The only game i was able to download and play tho was Chrono Trigger.. Everytime i find Valkyrie Profile it's split up into like 6 different rom's lol..

And yeah i thought Persona 2: Innocent Sin hit stateside because i read it's review on Game Stop.. But i guess it's based off the japan edition.. The review got me pretty excited, too bad i won't ever be able to play it :(

review: http://www.gamespot.com/ps/rpg/pers...vert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;read-review

it got a 9.2

You wern't kiddin when you said this shit is gonna take hours of my life.. I'am already addicted to the high school life, but i like the dungeon crawling even better myself.. I'am interested in learning more about Tarturus :) Another thing about this game i usually dislike JPop, well not at first, but after hearing it over and over it gets on my nerve.. But there are actually some real GOOD music/songs on this game.. The Jpop is still annoying but some of the Jrock and JRap (lmao) are sorta cool sounding.. Even tho i noticed i've heard a lot of the songs b4 on other games, like the intro which was played ALOT through out the game "The World Ends With You".. That song is so annoying because it was played hours upon hours through out that game and now i gotta listen to it again..

lol minor complaint tho.. awsome game :) already poured 8 hours into it.. Bout to smoke some more Grand Daddy and get down on some more P3 :)

how can we go through this thread this long and not name grandia?

grandia has the best turn based battle system ever IMO. lots of fun.

2 is real good but has dreamcast graphics so it mat feel aesthetically out of place because of it. 3 isn't ground breaking but it's a beautiful game and a lot of fun. Don't expect too much challenge or an epic story though.

I bought it, and then sold it when I needed cash, then bought it back because I liked it so much. That says something.

Front Mission.

I'm a huge fan of the series but it's not for everyone. It's probably easier and cheaper for you to just pick up FM4 for PS2 and give it a try. If you like 4 then you'll like 3, simple as that. 5 and Online never made it stateside which is a shame because it's kind of a death of the series since the next game Evolution will be an action game instead of the an SRPG.

Vagrant Story is an amazing game but you'll have to dedicate yourself to it. It takes place in Ivalice. The same world as FF Tactics and XII. Highly recommended.

Breath of Fire series has always been awesome. They're along the lines of more traditional RPGs. Nothing ground breaking but it's cool to change into a dragon. Worth picking up if you find them for a good price.

Have you played the Parasite Eve games?

I've been waiting countless years for a P3 announcement. Both are worth playing but II is far more enjoyable.

Some other games you should look into are:

Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth (this game is a lot like FFTactics)
Kartia: The World of Fate
Brigandine: Legend of Forsena
Lunar: Silver Star Story
Lunar: Eternal Blue
Star Ocean: Second Story
Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
Tactics Ogre
Azure Dreams
Thousand Arms
Vanguard Bandits
Alunda I+II
SaGa Frontier I+II (I don't know how much you would like these though)
Thousand Arms
