Without Metal Gear Solid I honestly don't give a fuck about Sony anymore, just my opinion. There's hardly any good exclusives and on top of that there is only a handful of games that make it worth while to get a console.

While the console gaming market is expanding its also losing its integrity by watering down the products to reach a broader audience, without innovation there is no progress. I know I say that shit every time a (console) gaming thread comes up but its the truth, make your money I ain't mad at ya but at least leave something for those that have supported you for decades now.

was a far superior machine than the xbox. That remains to be seen with the next version.
superior how? I remember hearing about the cell processor and the obvious one being the bluray drive. but every time I saw a head to head comparison of any game that was multiplatform, I saw no difference between consoles. There was nothing superior about the PS3 to the human eye. I can't say I ever noticed it owning both.

True, to the end user eye, there is no difference. However, the PS3 is a powerful machine in and of itself. You can actually use them as servers. I believe there are youtube videos and articles where companies have taken multiple PS3's and combines them in redundant array's in a NAS/server enviornment with success.

Also, you can swap HDD's in the PS3...XBox, not so much. Such BS.

The hardware is far superior, its not a debate its a fact. As far as graphics if some games looked better on the xbox vs the ps3 or were similar that's on the company making the game.

Further its well documented how Microsoft dumbed down the industry and threatens or blackmails gaming companies from releasing better versions on the PS3. Microsoft basically states the game must be at the very least equal to Sony's or they have the right not to release it on the 360 meaning millions of lost dollars for said gaming company.

Microsoft has fucked up the gaming industry big time. Now I'm not saying Sony isn't apart of the problem because frankly they've done some bullshit too and I don't know about this whole "cloud" direction they seem to be going, but as far as the PS3 goes it was a fine piece of hardware, a high quality and durable console. The jury is out regarding the PS4 though and just because I have a PS3 doesn't mean I'll get a PS4. More info required, reviews, etc.

yea i agree re: microsoft doing backroom deals to keep ps3 versions mediocre at best, honestly for the most part xbox games run/look better when you see them side by side

if this generation doesnt go well for sony i wouldnt be surprised if they got out of the game market all together. nintendo has been the weakest link in the console market for 3 generations now but they have stayed afloat with handheld sales, something sony has been unable to do since the psp came out. its not looking good for them

Funny how Sony claimed the PS3 to be "Future proof". Didn't they intend it to last 15 + years or something? So much for that.
Probably a silly thing to say since obviously everything changes. But Im sure many people will continue to use the PS3 for a few more years, although I doubt many more games will be coming out besides the downloadable ones.

I have a feeling that this might be the end of an era for Sony. Which is unfortunate because the playstation 2 was such a great system. Not only was it simple and afforable but it offered something not a lot of people had at the time; a dvd player.
I think the Playstation's success has always been very much tied to the physical medium of it's time; Compact Discs, DVDs. For awhile when the Playstation 1 was first picking up steam, Blockbuster Video started selling Music CDs in order to accommodate this choice.
This is where that idea of a video game system being part of a life style choice came from. Having a video game system, which was multi-purpose. Not only could you play games on it, but you could also listen to music and watch movies as well.
It was like the Sony Walkman of video games. It was hip, it was trendy and it was so affordable, that you absolutely could not find a reason not to have one.
Now with physical media on it's way out in favour of digital distribution, I really don't think there's a place for Sony anymore.
Most of the former executives who were responsible for Sony's success in general have long since left the company under new management. All that seems to be left now is a hefty price tag, arrogance and poor consumer electronics.
For the Playstation to be a success again, Sony would have to somehow -inexpensively- provide a service, something everyone essentially wants right now and somehow incorporate that into a video game system of some sort.
…Being able to access your video game collection on anything, from anywhere with anyone at anytime? I have no idea...
