this article here is about one my friends, which he isnt anymore...what he did was unforgivable ... http://napavalleyregister.com/news/local/article_25569009-ea48-55e8-bbc1-ba0e8b3af6ac.html
Wait, you were friends with a baby toucher/baby killer?

And as to the topic, MO, you seem to be completely missing the point. The inmates are not asking for 'nice' living conditions, they're asking that the state simply meets minimum human rights standards when it locks people up. Saying that the average prisoner lives better than the average person, even at the poverty level, is laughable, and if you really think conditions in supermaxes. and the SHU at pelican bay, and all of the other places they stick inmates the want to mete out the harshest punushment on, are humane then you and I either have very different versions of humane, or you need to do a little more research.

i have people in prison and jail, whom i write and visit if i can..i even help with money..so dont give me that shit like im not entitled to an opinion that differs from most....the judicial system is joke pedos and sex offenders seem to always get off easy ( no pun ) where they should be castrated...and from what ive been told inmates have it pretty good as far as meals, shelter, the fact that they have little things such as deodorant, shampoo and not just a state issued bar of soap, 3 meals a day sure its not red lobster...a place to sleep...im just saying...its not the greatest conditions, but its not supposed to be, could and should it be safer? absolutely, but when you get that many people together most with a violent past..shit pops off, there are too many variables to make it equal across the board so everybody should be treated equally

I was under the impression that there were more secure federal prisons, like places in colorado that are built mostly underground. But who really cares, anywhere where you are isolated to that degree, where you get little to no human contact, are, by definition, inhumane. Isolation like that is LITERALLY torture, and the fact that we STATE SPONSER IT is a fucking travesty.

And as to your 'friend', I know all my dude's well enough to know they aren't out raping and killing children, IDK what to even say about that one. But If your view of prison is based on the fact that you think all inmates are like that dude, well, then you're just wrong.

just really shows you though, you never know about people in general...you might think you know someone...i never thought i knew anyone that would or could do that shit...he'll burn for it...in prison and hell

and no not every inmate is the same...but from what i know about pelican bay is that its one of the toughest prisons especially with that SHU shit...maybe im over generalizing it. what do you have to do to end up in SHU?

Just because a person is locked up doesnt make them any less of a human then us on the outside world. The fucked up thing about folks being locked up is half of these places dont think about the fact that the inmates locked up alot of them are going to go home but without skills or any type of training they are going to go back to the same shit they did before. Unless you know somebody that has been locked up or you have been locked up in all honesty shut the fuck up. alot of people are in there because of bullshit charges or people lying to save there own asses. My dad was in and out for a long time and I run across people all the time getting out and odds are unless they have some sort of training or schooling while they were locked up they are going to go back in, and its sad that the prisons dont give a fuck to them all these inmates are to them is another paycheck.

But officials hope they can use the SHU to beat the gangs. In Pelican Bay, inmates accused of gang membership are held in the SHU for the duration of their sentence. To get out, an inmate has to prove to prison officials that he's left the gang. In theory, he can do that by severing all contact with the gang. But he has to do it for six years and most gang members say that's impossible. The alternative is to take the quick way out. The inmate can agree to what's called "debriefing." In debriefing, a prisoner has to divulge everything he knows about the gang and even agree to testify against other members. In other words, if he doesn't want to serve his whole term alone in a tiny cell, he has to become a snitch.

this is what were talking about?

because if thats it...then i was generalizing

that shit sounds like suicide to me...

A former ADX warden described the place as "a cleaner version of Hell."[14] There have been hundreds of "involuntary feedings" and four suicides.[14] Most recently, in June 2009 Richard Reid, commonly known as the "shoe bomber", went on a hunger strike and was force-fed.[15]

^^^Yeah, thats the place I was talking about. I mean, there is simply no way to justify that shit. If you are inflicting enough psychological harm on someone that they stop eating in order to kill themselves, and then you feed them through a tube to keep them alive... fuck, that shit hurts just to think about.

THIS!

Back in '06 I was sick as fuck and sat in my house for a little over a month. By the time I was completely better and ready to go, I was pissed off, a bit anti-social, and a little fucked up in the head because I hadn't seen or heard from anybody in that long. I wouldn't even want to be isolated in a box for years on end...I can't imagine what that would do to the human psyche if a month with no contact fucked with me.

since when did prisons become concentration camps?

the whole system is based on a rehabilitate and reform policy....

how the fuck are you gonna reform and rehabilitate someone thats starving at your hands? do you know what they are given in a meal? do you realize what a "spread" is? are you aware that people end up gettin stabbed over debt caused by lack of food aka nutrition...does that register in your brain?

the one phone call a week...you stupid fuck....is needed for any human who sits in a fuckin hollow brick square for 23 hours a day...just cuz you stoled a pizza doesnt mean you shouldnt be able to speak to your kids on the phone...

and as far as using the SHU as a tool for "debriefs" that proves real useful huh? cuz were knockin them prison gangs out left and right...obviously the prison torture is workin huh?

the entire prison industrial complex and justice system is based on numbers...the more prisoners the more money....and the less money spent on food and cleanliness the more lines their pockets...and your such a dumb dip shit you think that you pennies are payin for prisoners to "live like royalty" and yet your unaware of how much money the prisons are making without your shitty couple hundred a year...

fuck you
Did you type this without taking a breath? 'Cause that's how I read it. BREATHE, LEGGY....BREATHE! lol. OOOOOOSAAAAAAAA
