i honestly don't think an odom/gasol/bynum frontcourt will work anymore...so unless bynum comes off the bench (which i don't want at all) odom needs to go. his bad/inconsistent jumpshot alone crosses him off my small forward list...he's had 4 years to prove he can fit in and consistently contribute in LA and it hasn't happened.
i agree, when i mentioned no big trades,i was talking about gasol, but we shouldnt trade odom just for the sake of trading him

odom is probably on his way out anyway,i think artest would work ..but if we fail in that, lakers need to look for somebody solid ,thats actually gonna help this team be better & work in the traingle offense,or were just better off keeping odom...this squad made it to the finlas with one big piece missing in bynum, lakers are gonna be more improved next year trust me,we dont need some wild card thats gonna put a monkey wrench in the team, when this same team was good enough to sweep denver, beat utah & beat the defending world champion spurs..regardless of the outcome,we were just 2 games shy of the finals trophy..

^we overachieved this year...there's no telling if we'll have the same level of success next year. sweeping denver wasn't a huge accomplishment. beating utah was solid, and we beat a hobbled spurs team. i'm not trying to downplay what we accomplished, but i don't think we're as good as we want to believe...boston showed that.

and our biggest problems were perimeter defense and toughness...our interior defense was bad too but that really wasn't our biggest problem. gasol and our other bigs were only getting exposed because our guards cant stay in front of their damn men.

we need a legitimate second scoring option...gasol only shows up when he wants to (maybe that will change if/when he moves to PF but we dont know that), odom has already shown he cant be that, and as much as people think bynum is our savior, he's not great at creating his own shot either. do you know how many of his points came from kobe alley-oops or kobe setting him up for easy ass shots or him getting easy putbacks?? most of em.

i'm just saying...this team isn't as close to being a championship team as alot of you wanna believe. although our young team did gain alot of knowledge and experience this year that will definitely help down the road.

we jus gotta see what happens i guess...

I think adding Artest to the Lakers has as much potential to be a disaster as it does a success..

Prince would be a better fit IMO
^i dont really agree about that first part, but i do like prince better on this team. imo ariza is a poor man's tayshaun prince...long, athletic, quick...ariza just doesn't have the offensive game prince does.

i'm not so sure ariza will be here next year though...

Im not sure there would be enough shots around to keep Artest happy. What happens when he starts forcing shots even when he's off like he's done on other teams? You know Kobe would get heated and probally clash with him...plus everyone knows Artest isn't the most level headed player. Would he be able to accept a role behind Kobe and gasol?

^if artest came, he would be a 2nd option...not a 3rd option.

and trust me, he would get outta that forcing shots shit quick. phil wouldn't put up with that shit and kobe probably wouldn't either. they would definitely make him cut that shit out fast.

besides, kobe and artest have been good friends since they were kids so im sure they wouldn't have a problem communicating with each other and "clash"

artest would be the second option if you counted kobe as 1a and the post man in the triangle 1b...odom should go...for that guy sayin odom would flourish at the 3...odom would get shit on by most sf in the league...he doesnt want to chase pierce, lebron, prince, butler etc etc around on d, and he likes to play in the paint which is why the bynum/odom/gasol trio wont work.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP)—Forward Trevor Ariza, acquired in a November trade with Orlando, has exercised his player contract option to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers.

He appeared in 24 games for the Lakers before breaking a bone in his right foot on Jan. 20. He missed the rest of the regular season and 11 playoff games before returning for Game 2 of the Western Conference finals.

Ariza averaged 18 minutes a game in the regular season before being hurt, with averages of 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.08 steals. After he came back in the postseason, he set career playoff highs with six points and five rebounds in Game 4 of the NBA finals.

i didn't say it wasn't...it's just old as hell. i thought everyone had seen that by now...especially those who take hatin on the lakers and other LA teams as a job
hating the lakers just comes with the territory of being a blazers fan, celtics fan, warrios fan, spurs fan, suns fan, do I need to keep going?
