^^^ its set up with incentives. if he gets injured he wont get that full amount. he is only getting 6 mill next year.

both of these signings were good and neither was overpayed.

keep up the signings! soon we'll actually have a roster

specific contract details havent been released yet... but i already know. mullin has been stingy as fuck. especially with guaranteed money for guys with a history of injury.

its probably 30-40 guaranteed money.

either way we still gonna sign more people. baron might even come back.

marion for ellis maybe? i hope this doesnt happen
Ellis is said to be coveted by several teams, including the Cavs, Heat and Knicks. But those teams can only offer a deal starting at the midlevel exception ($5.8 million), so the Warriors should be able to keep him. Mullin could look to do a sign-and-trade involving Ellis, with the idea of bringing back a star like Heat forward Shawn Marion.

The Warriors also could make a run at free-agent swingman Corey Maggette, and pair him in the backcourt with Ellis. Along with Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington, they would have the nucleus of a decent team. But without a proven playmaker like Davis at the point, it's hard to imagine Golden State getting back to the playoffs next season.

dont trade ellis anywhere....

I would be happy as hell if they could get Josh Smith tho

Maggette is a good player and as long as they don't overpay him too much he'll be a good addition, but they definately should not be done shopping around

Don Nelson on Maggette, Turiaf, Monta at the point, a good-bye cigar with Baron…

nice blog from Tim Kawakami of the SJ Mercury....Nellie is the man.... haha

* By the way, I saved some other stuff from the Nelson interview for the column. More big-picture stuff. That’s what we call a cross-media teaser.

Doing work for tomorrow’s column, just got off the phone with Don Nelson–one Warriors’ official who is talking–and got his quick takes on adding Corey Maggette, possibly adding Ronny Turiaf, and moving Monta Ellis to point guard (which apparently is a lock)…

Highlights:

-Maggette figures to be the starting small forward and Nelson says he’s moving Stephen Jackson to the off-guard spot.

-Monta Ellis is the point guard.

-If Ronny Turiaf’s offer sheet isn’t matched by the Lakers, he’d fit in as the Warriors’ back-up center.

-Nelson says that Anthony Randolph is showing a lot in the summer league practices.

Now… The quick Q & A (Nelson is in Las Vegas with the summer league team, which is practicing before Friday’s first SL game)…

-Question: What are your thoughts on adding Maggette?

-NELSON: He’s a good player. That helps. Plays the ‘three’ spot, allows me to move Jack over to ‘two’. And he rebounds a little better than Jack.

-Q: So you’ve liked Maggette for a while? This wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment signing?

-NELSON: You’ve got to like that guy. Gets to the foul line and he rebounds.

-Q: But Maggette dribbles a lot, too. He goes one-on-one, isolation. Is that good for your style of offense?

-NELSON: That’s fine. We’ll go to his strengths.

-Q: Do you need some more three-point shooters?

-NELSON: You could always use a three-point shooter, we’ve lost a few of them. We’ll deal with what we have.

-Q: So Monta is definitely your point guard?

-NELSON: Monta’s at the point… I’d like to carry three point guards, so we’re looking around for a back-up point.

-Q: Does Monta need to change his game as the point guard?

-NELSON: Just got to get better every year, you know? Made a nice step this year, I thought.

-Q: You always did say Monta’s future was at point guard…

-NELSON: I’ve never given up on him making plays, being better than that. I figured it’d be a matter of time. He’s still got work to do. But he was better at the end of the year. He turned it over a little bit, but at least he has better vision now. He was pretty single-minded when I got there.

-Q: OK, who’s your starting power forward at this point?

-NELSON: Probably Harrington.

-Q: Would you ever play Maggette at the four?

-NELSON: No.

-Q: Let’s go to that other power forward. Did you think you had a real shot at signing Elton Brand?

-NELSON: Yeah.

-Q: How disappointing was it when Brand decided to go to Philadelphia?

-NELSON: Well, it would’ve been nice to have him. He’s more like the aircraft carrier you can really build around. But he’s going home, just like Baron did, so… Good for him. Hope he’s happy. Great guy, by the way.

-Q: Who… Elton or Baron?

-NELSON: Both of them.

-Q: Have you spoken to Baron since he left?

-NELSON: Oh yeah. We spoke several times on the phone. He came over to the office to say good-bye. We had a cigar together, sat in my truck for about two hours and talked.

-Q: I guess Baron must not feel wonderful going to LA without Brand…

-NELSON: You have to ask him about that.

-Q: Do you think you need to make more additions to the roster?

-NELSON: Actually we’ve got plenty of spaces, but they’d have to be more minimum guys…

-Q: That’s counting Turiaf?

-NELSON: Counting him, I think we still have enough for two or three more bodies. We’ll probably spend that on somebody like a point guard, a back-up point. We’ll still need some minimum guys.

-Q: Why go after Turiaf? What do you like about him?

-NELSON: He has the ability to pass a little bit, pretty good all-around player, a little bit under-sized. He may be available because they’ve got so many big guys there.

I don’t know how much they would use him next year when they have everybody. He’d be the third center there. A chance they wouldn’t match.

-Q: If Turiaf comes here, would he be your back-up center?

-NELSON: Yeah, he would be.

-Q: How does that summer league team look–with Brandan Wright, Anthony Randolph…

-NELSON: Randolph looks like he’s going to be really good.

-Q: At what position right now? 4 or 3?

-NELSON: He is a ‘three’.

-Q: Could you play him right away in the regular season?

-NELSON: He’s awful young, but I’m going to play him if he has the skill to play. Sure looks good early.

-Q: What is Randolph doing well to impress you so much?

-NELSON: He’s just got IT, you know what I mean? Not many 6-10 ‘threes’ out there that can make plays and do that kind of stuff. Be fun to watch him grow into a player, huh?

lol Harrington for Marion? Do you actually think Miami would go for that?
its possible. they are trying to get rid of marion. but i'd rather keep harrington than marion anyways. we dont need more small forwards. thats the one position we have on lock.

harrington is more versatile and can play 3, 4, or 5

harrington is underrated by many but i like him a lot. he improves every year and his defense has greatly improved since we acquired him.

he fucks yao up everytime we play them and thats more than enough reason to keep him.

sure marion is solid, but he isnt getting any better. he can only make wide open shots. he isnt clutch. he isnt a playmaker. and he disappears in the playoffs every year. also his contract is over 17 million.

not worth it

^^^ harrington is much better offensively than marion. marion is better defensively. but they play different positions.

marions shot is way way way worse. he can only shoot wide open shots because he shoots so ugly and so low. a kid in a wheelchair could block his shot.

marion isnt a good ballhandler and cant create. he can dunk and jam alley oops.

harrington has decent handles for a big man, he has a crossover that leads into a spin move that nobody can guard 1 on 1. harrington also has a very solid post game with fadeaways and turnarounds. harrington can shoot over people and has a great 3 point shot.

biggest thing of all is harrington continues to improve and has a much lower contract.

marion hasnt improved in a long time and makes too much money.

id rather have maggette than marion pending injuries.

marion is a great defender and a good fast break player thats highly athletic.

i couldnt find any video of harrington on yao which is too bad because i loved it. he literally fucks that tall china man up!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=271129009

the best i could find was an espn article about it.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Al Harrington gives up 9 inches and 60 pounds to Yao Ming. Yet by using his quickness to front and harass the 7-foot-6 Yao, Harrington is somehow able to shut down Houston's All-Star center.

Harrington outplayed Yao for a second straight meeting, shutting him down at one end and scoring 18 points on the other to help the Golden State Warriors beat the Rockets 113-94 on Thursday night for their eighth win in nine games after an 0-6 start.

Yao shot 4-for-12 and had five turnovers, finishing with a season-low 10 points. Andris Biedrins started the game guarding Yao but coach Don Nelson quickly changed to Harrington. In two games against the Warriors since Harrington joined the team last season, Yao has only 19 points on 6-of-16 shooting.

so harrington outplayed a tall stiff for one game. cool, but harrington sucks and marion is a huge upgrade over him. marion goes in the top 5 in fantasy nba drafts for a reason, harrington usually goes in the top 100.

^^^ exactly. harrington was overrated when drafted. they expected him to like garnett.

he came out of high school and needed time to develop. he was also in a terrible system with the pacers.

he continues to improve and is very serious about it.
